    Thank-you; well done and clearly explained. Adding staggered Hipshots to my Squire strat. I'm using your technique for the EZ-LOC threaded inserts. That mod with the Hipshots let me break down and pack the guitar to travel. Thanks again, D.

    Matt, I use a little block of wood as a depth stop rather than tape. Tape works but when you really want to ensure you don't go through, the block works great. I also use it for the neck bolts.

    Love my hipshot tuners I will be adding them to most of my guitars. I just installed them on a les paul that some one had butchered the tuning post holes with a drill bit. Those adapter plates really helped those tuner stay centered and locked in . Stays in tune now and looks gorgeous with the pearloid tulip tuning pegs I added. Shout out for the AK operators union (got the same shirt and baseball cap too).

    I know this video is two years old but I think this is worth mentioning for anyone who is replacing the tuner buttons on Hipshots. Make sure when you take the old buttons off, not to let the two tiny washers (one metal and one teflon I suspect) on the peg fall off and onto the floor as you will never find them again and they make a HUGE difference in the functionality of the tuners. Yes, this is the voice of experience speaking. Fortunately, Hipshot is a great company to deal with and a quick email to them resulted in them sending me six of each of the washers (I only needed one of each) at no cost. I love Hipshot tuners and I've always heard you don't really know much about a company until you need their help resolving an issue with their product.

  • @jimfromoh8944

    Like the Hipshots a lot , great vid, and the upgrade plate is the way to go if you are just doing this for the first time or don't want the holes. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. I installed some cheap chinese tuners for a quarter of the price on a neck and they worked fine once on the guitar, but the quality wasn't there from tuner to tuner and the nuts were some funky size that wasn't metric or SAE. I had one socket out of six different ones the same size that would fit on it. You don't want to use the 'gunsmiths metric toolbox' on tuner faces. :)

    • @TexasToastGuitars
      @TexasToastGuitars 5 лет назад

      Well, I have reached for the gunsmith's metric tool kit while doing tuners in the past. We had to standardize on something and the folks at Hipshot have been very cool to us.

    We are on the same wavelength here. As a long time Jackson and Ibanez player, bound neck or bound neck/headstock with no body binding is good to me, but a bound body and no other just looks off and wrong. Plus, those are the tuner keys I prefer too.
    Speaking of binding, you ever run across orange colored binding or paint wood winding?

    • @TexasToastGuitars
      @TexasToastGuitars 5 лет назад +1

      I like your style, I have not seen any orange binding, but that certainly doesn't mean it isn't out there. I think I would use white and then paint it with a transparent orange, you could probably dye it orange as well.

    i never snapped more strings at the eyelet of the tuning peg of the hipshot locking tuners. At first I thought i was overtightening the lock but all the breaks were at the hole and the little string bit still attached to the post at the locking end. Called HIPSHOT and they said i should file the sharp edge at the hole...through chrome plating! there is something very wrong here. Impossible to do a setup on a guitar or use a guitar in drop tuning with tuning and detuning....do it once or twice and SNAP!

      @@TexasToastGuitars Well, I must assume you know more than I because if it were me, I would have assumed that if I drilled a hole the same size as the screw shaft (that is, the shaft diameter minus the little spiral bits that cut into the wood as it is screwed in) then you would have none of those issues. It is still wood you're putting the screws into so if you broke a screw head just like that, I would have to assume you bought some crap Chinese screws made out of cheap imitation metal. :) Anyway, I don't think for me that tool would do more than drain my wallet more. :( Any tutorial on how to install FENDER locking tuners with the two nipples on the back of each?
