    Hi there, Thanks a lot for your videos, great job! Just a quick question, you mention you have a grid of UV-inked points, but only seem to use the ones on the edges? Would you recommend mapping the whole screen anyway with said points? Thanks !

    • @FlyerOneZero
      @FlyerOneZero  3 года назад

      Actually, I do use all the points, it just might not look like I do :-) It’s a great system, but you need to be sure that the marks will not show up under normal light. I just assumed that that would be the case, but once I started marking my screen I noticed that the points were visible as dark sports. I guess they must have reacted with the paint on my screen. In every day use I don’t notice them, but if you’re looking for them they are fairly prominent. So I would test it on the sample of the same material as your screen first. Since the alternative is to put physical markers on the screen each time you want to calibrate it, the UV method saves a lot of time.

    • @christopherreville3131
      @christopherreville3131 3 года назад

      @@FlyerOneZero Awesome, I will use a more temporary means than yours just in case. Just wanted to know if I could use fewer marks than you actually did, but will stick to their 20*6 recommendation for a wall like mine then. Thanks again!

      @@christopherreville3131 Marking just the edges and then using a laser level to create straight lines across and up the screen is a viable alternative. And in fact using a laser level is definitely advisable to get the straightest possible lines. I am overdue to re-calibrate my screen that way.

      Hi Chuck. I bought one of the cheap cubes that can be mounted on top of a lighting tripod (which you will need, hand holding will not work). You can get some very sophisticated laser levelling kit, but I don’t think you need it, all you need is a cross level laser, that is, one that projects a line both horizontally and vertically to give you a cross point.

    is there no option to have a brightness blending in the middle so you don't have that bright strip?

    • @FlyerOneZero
      @FlyerOneZero  4 месяца назад

      You can adjust it so that you don’t see it against a bright background, but there will always be extra brightness against a dark background where the two images overlap. That’s because black in a projected image is actually dark grey. But there are some ways to deal with that, I have a video on that very subject: ruclips.net/video/pAo-t0W5J5M/видео.htmlsi=7Xs7gixZNznTn4JR.

Should I choose start from column 3 on View1 let’s say or I choose from column 1 and I adjust it ? Cause yours on the sides are almost at the edge. I tried today from column 3 but someone told me it’s not correct. Thank you in advance!

    • @FlyerOneZero
      @FlyerOneZero  3 года назад +1

      Interesting question.
      So, the columns and rows that you define must fit on the physical screen. The screen measurements must be accurate, this is what gets the correct geometric projection. When you start to map it, because your projection area extends beyond the ends of your screen, you will need to move the points at the far edges of each side of the screen so that they line up with the edges of the screen.
      This means that the view area for your left projector should start at column one. Those points will initially be invisible because they will be drawn off the screen, but you can use the cursor keys to move them back on the physical screen, and continue mapping from there.

So my desktop image is unwarped, but once I start Prepar3d (the sim I use) the windows are correctly warped. There's definitely a setting to say start warping when the software starts. I'll see if I can find it for you and add another comment.

    Really cool! I am thinking about the different licensing options for Immersive display pro. I plan to use it with x-plane. Do I need to get the most expensive version to get exports for x-plane cameras or would it work without the exported settings? I could not figure this out.

    • @FlyerOneZero
      @FlyerOneZero  2 года назад +1

      Immersive Calibration Pro only works with Immersive Display Pro Ultimate Edition, which is the most expensive. If you do buy I would strongly advise that you get the dongle version which is slightly more expensive again, because with the PC locked license, if you change your hardware at all, the hardware ID changes and the license becomes invalid, and Fly Elise will only reset the license once.

      Hi. All you need to do is export for X-Plane instead. I don't know exactly what those files contain or how they are imported into X-Plane, as I don't use it, but that's the only difference.

      @FlyerOneZero  2 года назад +1

      Hi Alessandro. I missed your comment, apologies for the late reply.
      Creating a curved image on a curved screen requires extra software on the PC. I use something called Immersive Display Pro from Fly-Elise NG. There *are* commercial-grade projectors available which can do this directly, but they are *very* expensive. Any projector you could really afford to buy for a hobby project will only project a flat image. The screen, being curved, makes that image distorted; the software then un-does the distortion to make it look like it fits on the curve. You could cover maybe 90 degrees of angle with a single projector, so if you wanted to create a 180-degree curved screen like mine, you would need two projectors as a minimum, and depending on how large it is, you might need three.

    • @FlyerOneZero
      @FlyerOneZero  2 года назад

      I don’t think I’m really qualified to recommend specific projectors as I have only ever used one brand. You need good contrast, high lumens (which generally rules out LED projectors), and most critically, short throw. The BenQ W1210ST units I have in the sim currently do a great job, but have been discontinued. The nearest equivalent current product appears to be the TH671ST. But other manufacturers are available, which may be just as good. I simply don’t have the experience.
      At all costs, don’t be tempted by the cheap no-brand projectors you will find on Amazon. These are the ones that say they are Full HD ‘compatible’ and then turn out to have a native resolution of 480p. Obviously anything less than 1080p will not do the job. Stick with the big-name manufacturers only.
      Honestly, though, this is a big investment and I would strongly advise you to do your own research and understand what the choices are in this space before you consider buying.
      That said, I think you will struggle if your budget is USD1500 for both units. If this is a per unit budget, then it’s more than enough. My strong recommendation is not to compromise on spec in order to bring the price down, you will have to sacrifice something that you need.

      Well, I don't have an exhaustive list, but Prepar3d, X-Plane, FSX (not the new MSFS), DCS, and some racing games, I believe iRacing and possibly Assetta Corso and probably some others. Basically, they need to a) support multiple views, b) have some way of defining a persistent camera view, and c) be supported by Immersive Calibration Pro.
      In terms of just running a game on the big screen in ultra-widescreen (but without the perspective correction, so with stretched edges) then using the Desktop warp and blend mode in Immersive Display Pro instead of Window mode, you can run pretty much any game that will handle the resolution and aspect ratio.

Neither publishes their pricing, which means you have to contact their sales teams to even know how much it might cost or get a trial. Fly Elise lets anyone download a trial version and publish their pricing, which is pretty reasonable compared to the competition.
