super good and very well explained (super bueno y muy bien esplicado) In this winter I will try to restore my fishing rod for salmon and this video is one of the clearest that I have seen thanks I'm starting with nothing I'll create everything (HOME MADE WRAPPING MACHINE) gracias y hasta luego
Thank you! And thank you for subscribing. Wow! Super nice. I would love to see pictures when you get done with the restore. Email them to hmcustomthreads@gmail.com
Thank you for informational video, I try to fix, build and deco fishing rods for a hobby as I am a disabled veteran. I had tried this many times along with tiger wrap but mine never turns out. The epoxy is always wavy even if i put less epoxy on. God bless.
Wavy epoxy is not settling correctly. Try a thin coat epoxy or really heating up your epoxy with a torch as it turns. Do not burn it , just heat it up to move the epoxy around to even out. Good Luck
Pastor Read Moreno Thank you for taking the time to view my video. Awesome! I will do another short video on how to apply epoxy and get it to come out close to perfect. The only way to get a super perfect finish is to sand and wet sand it down after about 5-6 light coats finish and then applying 1-2 more coats. Thank you, God Bless you as well!
Dorf Lonnigan, thank you for watching. After I apply my second coat of finish, I take my razor and carefully cut them off. Carefully being the keyword. If you get too deep with the razor you start cutting into the wrap and then you have to cut the section off and do it over. In some cases you have to cut the ENTIRE wrap off and redo it.
It looks to me when you're adding the red around 10:45ish on this video that the first 5 wraps of the yellow is being wrapped over as you can see the yellow threads through the red before it goes to solid red. Hope that makes sense. Am I seeing it correctly? Also, where can I buy this same wrapping machine your using?
Hello Donna! Thank you for watching! When I introduce or add the red, I wrap the yellow over the initial red but then the red and yellow are being wrapped at the same time, together. I hope that makes sense. As for the power wrapper, you can get one from either Get Bit Outdoors or Swampland Tackle. If you choose Swampland Tackle, tell him I referred you.
I was just wondering if there was a specific reason for doing it that way. I have never seen a person do a wrap in stages like that. Was it an after thought?
Dan, I do it this way to make sure this not a slim down from the tie off. Also, to only have to worry about the inlays or color changes I want to do. When doing the color changes, inlays, or JTOB’s during the tie off there is just more going on. Even though one can remedy that with the finish I just like doing it this way better.
There's a better...or at least easier...way of ending the side by side wrap. Kinda hard to describe though. Basically go one extra turn than you want, and then unwinding once with only the thread you cut. Then the tag end stays to the right and you don't have to worry about cutting it off between threads. Your method obviously works, but I find the other way easier. Happy wrapping. I'm looking forward to being back in H-town soon!
rweakley, I agree that there are many ways to do this. Easier, sure! This is just what I am comfortable with. If you have some time I would like to see your technique so that I can also learn an easier way. Awesome, reach out when you come back and maybe we can collaborate to do a video.
@@hmcustomthreads2460 Maybe I can do that. I don't have my wrapping equipment here with me in Hawaii. Houses on base are small and my work bench is big. But I retire soon and will head back to Houston. Maybe I can see if your technique and mine can be combined. I start differently than you, so my added thread is on the right side of the main thread (I end up cutting the beginning tag end between threads now that I think about it). But I still think the way I learned will work combined with your starting technique. A combination may be even easier than both! I'll hit you up in a few months if I can remember!
doing it this way never works for me. The leading edge tag end into the next color is only held by a single wrap of the next color then it's cut. I end up knocking those out when i burnish or during later packing. I need to put the tags the other way, placed in the forward direction and held under the next color. There are a couple of time stamps where i can clearly see the shor tag ends sticking out of the wrap which will turn into little spikes after applying finish
littlegoobie, most definitely! I agree 100% with your assessment. I do it a little different now which produces much cleaner results. I just have not had time to do a video on it. Thank you for commenting and visiting my channel. 👍🏼
Charles, I agree. However, due to only 5 colors selected for the monthly thread trunk, that is why I didn’t include an orange. Please add an orange and post it so others can see the seamless transition.
Great video davve !! never seen so many things about the world of wrapping. thank
ECTOR! & STAFF ! I follow you from Italy

Thank you for this video. I appreciate how well you explain everything in detail. I will definitely try this....
Mark Peterson, my pleasure. I am glad you enjoyed it. Please subscribe to my channel if you have not already. I will have more videos coming soon.
That does look really nice. The rod chuck, is that what came with your lathe?
Thanks! Yes, it is an Alps power wrapper. You can find that at this link: getbitoutdoors.com/alps-upgraded-pwp
Thanks for the share. Definitely like how those last colours blended into each other!
deuces2k, my pleasure. Thanks for subscribing. Yes, those colors really went well with each other.
Thanks! Beautiful work...
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!

Pastor Read Moreno, I have just uploaded a video showing how I do epoxy and how I get the fabulous result I get.
@@hmcustomthreads2460 thank you, just watched it.
@@gbcustomrods5429 I use a hair drier It heats the finish just right to flow and allows you to also remove any excess finish.
Jack of all trades and still learning, 👍🏽
Thank you for the video, that is a really neat way to do a color change. How do you handle the tag ends and fuzzies from the thread?

Can you please give me the name and model number of the power wrapper you are using.
It is the Alps power wrapper. They only have 1 model.
Hi Hector It looks like you have finish on the wrap then come back and do the ends later is that what I'm seeing?
You can do it either way.

Has to have been a orange in between the yellow and red
