short answer: it's been dead for years and the developer put it on life support rather than addressing its numerous core issues, it's just that trading bots and degenerates have been inflating player numbers and trying to keep the marketplace stable for personal gains.
im confused, i have 2000 hrs in unturned, ive yet to watch the video but i cant actually think of a single issue with the game apart from the fact its dead
@@butlazgazempropan-butan11k87 i mean theres a lack of updates but i havent experienced any problems with bots and rarely find cheaters only thing i dislike is that nelson fixed getting under the map
Played a disgusting amount of Unturned back in the day and I can honestly attest to the RP servers being a large part of the downfall for Unturned as well. Largest part of responsibility falls for sure on the donor kit servers starting to get more and more popular but it was also the RP servers that were taking player base out of the proper servers. I miss semi-vanilla servers quite a bit, a simple kit or two with very basic gear and tpa access. It gave servers a slight bias towards pvp without tipping the scales too far into the madness, just enough to keep things active and competitive.
Last time I played was about a year ago and I could scroll through the server list and find less than 10 "vanilla" unturned servers while everything else has kits and vaults and TPA and all the stuff that completely negates the survival aspect of the game and turns it into a sort of BR game.
@@zachgaines8349 2 months back i had a vanilla server and sometimes it got players but rarely. At the height it was only 7 players at one time. I had no reason to keep paying hosting so i abandoned it.
I remember that too, I haven’t played the game for years but I used to run a small private server with friends in unturned 2.0 and 3.0. I remember trying to get back into the game after a long break and I couldn’t find any populated vanilla servers which pretty much killed my desire to play the game on public servers
No new maps with proper Lore, all new maps are curated maps centered on PvP ... Miss the old days of descovering what happend with this virus, how every country or state reacted to the outbreak. I thing that the map making community should start focusing on LORE much more.
I quit because the new curated maps are so PVP Focused, the only maps i enjoyed would be Kuwait, Arid and the european town thing? They were unique, but in the end, its like a hotel. They had something new or unique, but in the end, it doesn't feel new or better. The zombies felt repetitive, there was little to no challenge at all and you didn't have the same feeling of the threat of death in games like Project Zomboid
Escalation is the best map we've gotten in a while, but at the same time, I wish Nelson would drop official updates and maps like he used to do back in the day. I also saw someone comment about how Unturned's lore was a more critical part of the game and how they miss "discovering what happened with this virus, how every country or state reacted to the outbreak." I agree; after Elver came out, Unturned got a lot more fantasy stories and maps. That's not a bad thing at all, and I like it, but I can see how it became too much of a departure from what Unturned was initially for some people. If Nelson tried, he could revive his franchise, but honestly, he doesn't have an incentive to do so. He makes enough money. I think the announcement of Unturned 4.0 killed this game; everyone left the community because they were waiting for Nelson's new game, which would eventually be postponed indefinitely.
@@zman1064 I completely agree, a lot of the curated maps feel detached from the lore which nelson set out regarding the outbreak but also I feel that official support to the multiplayer such as dedicated official servers with no plugins and a complete redesign of the server browser would greatly help as in my 200 something hours I only just found out about how to sort by descending player sizes something which would definitely be hard for new players
I got a copy of Unturned II before I had enough hours to qualify for a ticket. I just emailed Nelson asking how many in-game hours I needed and he just gave me it.
TBH the reason why i haven't came back to the game is because how the game has become bloated and unoptimized that i can't even play it comfortably in single player.
Is that so? That explains the terrible experience I had when I tried to replay the game last year. Could barely run it at 5fps even though I was getting 40+ fps a four years prior. Thought my PC just got worse
@@KalakCZ of course. It's a simple work pc that I've been running for 6 years. Good enough to play most of my games so I never bothered upgrading it. But I did increase the ram and changed the hdd. Any more upgrades would require me to buy a whole new pc
@@KalakCZ used to get around 230 fps on medium setting 6 years ago, now i barely get 45, i was playing on russia and actively get lag spike, it honestly so sad seeing the state of the game. Something that i put nearly 4k hours in of my childhood.
For anyone here for information about why the game is dying and not boring information about it's mechanics: Starting from 2022 Nelson (dev) starting to make a lot of changes community didn't wanted. Here's some examples: Forced grass graphic parameter that destroyed fps for people on bad PCs (according to some of my folks). 3rd person nerf (everybody wanted maplestrike to be nerfed, not the 3rd person. Also, this change killed some modded maps balance, like France that had pretty balanced guns (like herstal)) Besides all that, he also did anti pay to win policy and after a month completely abandoned it (I even made a huge list of p2w servers that I reported back in the days, and only thing I've got was the message saying "you've miss understood the rules" (Even though most of the servers were EVEN SELLING /ITEM AND /VEHICLE)) All these changes made people quit and helped p2w servers to become swarmed with kids willing to pay money for kits and chat commands to gain stuff. So, should you go and play unturned? No, not in its current state. I wish if there would be some independent project that would start developing this game starting from the movement update, because it was one of the last good updates we gained. I have more than 5k hours in this game, trust me, it's not worth it anymore.
there is, i made a server for me and my friend only which you can join only through a code, and which was literally hosted on my computer you could check, the methods i used can be found in game (that being SDS's article about making servers)..
I was 12 when I started this game now I do videos on it lmao, it's an honest shame that this game is dying cause I've loved it for 8 years. I still continue to support the game and creators any way i can
An aspect I find that disinterested me from playing Unturned much is the lack of Vanilla additions. Almost every new major update is a curated map that hardly uses any of the vanilla systems. Hell, the weapon skin system is no longer unique because half of the popular servers and curated maps don't even use the vanilla weapons. "Ooh I unboxed/crafted a cool weapon skin; I sure hope I find the weapon on the new map :)". I used to get really interested when a new vanilla map was coming out or new vanilla items, now I just see a new curated map and see if they make use of vanilla stuff. Also the heavy focus on PvP in this game really soured the original concept of being a Zombie Survival game. Oh I wish for an update that adds even more zombie types or even enhancing how the zombies work.
I myself dont have a problem with curated maps being well curated but they should improve the whole Zombie Apocalypse part of the game, Zombies are just a loot drop and not a danger at all in this game
@@markom7841 in my opinion curated maps have higher quality than whatever official unturned stuff that comes out, i however still dislike the heavy PVP focus
Its dying because unturned ISNT a survival game at all, atleast not on most servers. Hunger and thirst are not a concern, because food is everywhere. All of the servers feature cheap shit like /teleport to friends, are on easy mode, and the loot is so abundant you are never in need of anything... I dont see any hardcore servers... But however you tweak the game, i think the issue is just with its design. With time this game has devolved into a watered down hybrid of Day-Z and Rust, when it should've just tried to be unique on it's own right. Its not a survival game in its current state, its more of an arcade or "lite" version of the two aformentioned games; But everything is SO so much faster... You can go from naked on the shore to full spec-ops gear in 30 minutes if you know what to do... Its too easy and its just stale. Needs more beefy progression, you can "beat" unturned and see everything there is to see in a matter of hours. You can experience low end, mid, and high end PvP gunfights all in that short time, that it hardly feels like an accomplishment to reach those peaks.
The only server that i know is actually hard to survive is the yukon remastered server You actually have to worry about food and water The only unbalanced thing i know is the clothing spawns at mount logan because it spawns clothing with almost the same storage as alicepacks
the thing imo is that it became a low budget robloxed 2019 fortnite, no one cares about the actual survival part which is the whole point of the game, the game itself IS fun, it is very good, it's just that the community ruins it i played yesterday with my friends (both new to unturned), gathering loot together, helping each other and slowly progressing is very fun, a lot of people say that "Unturned isn't fun the way it is supposed to play, PvP is much better", idk about that, because coordinating your friends to explore the tunnels on Russia and having everyone turning the lights off by accident and shooting pistols blindly for a couple of seconds was one of the most fun moments i've had in my 20 years of gaming, the game itself is good (in fact, we are going to play tomorrow with 4 more friends) you just gotta play it right btw PvP in this game is also very fun on PvP oriented servers, but the way PvE is underapreciated is just unfair
I was excited an waiting for the new Unturned because it was going to bring the game up to date. Then Nelson just dipped. That's the biggest reason no one plays anymore, he just stopped updating it.
unturned was like one of the games I played very back then. The memories I have are good that the Memory Reboot moment in this video was soo well fitting
my answer: my friends and I played it a lot (I even have 1,300 hours in the game from running servers), but we grew out of the game. We want to make a new server soon, but in the testing phase trying to find a map, the game just felt stale. I kinda wish they continued dev on Unturned 2.
You triggered my nostalgia. Choke on my subscribe. I will instal that thing again and make my friends play it. Will come back to yell at you if it sucks!
For some reason, I would always return after a few years. I play on a totally random server, accidentally become friends with some random dudes. We start grinding, gaming and of course, goofin´ around. We form a deep friendship, I tell them they can join my huge friend group. _Cycle repeats_ _(That's why I have 940 Hours in the game, and I still absolutely suck at PVP. )_
My 2 cents are these: It died because of the server admins and the pvp focused community As for the server, admin abuse was rampant in the few servers i used to play, and things got to a point where that limited the fun. Only being able to have one base, unable to build on vehicles, which used to be so fun as people would have vehicle base pvp. The fact that the owner of a server liked a group made it so they could teleport into places and ignore rules. Fun fact, the admin turned out to cheat on his wife with a minor he had recluited as an admin. And then the pvp. The game i feel like is best without hypercompetitive players wiping the entire place just because they feel like it. The game is so focused into pvp in fact you'll won't find a server where you can't start playing at all. Back when a group of mine had dominance on server, we wouldn't raid anyone until they had a certain progress, like metal bases, helis. Now you can't even make a wooden base larger than 1x1 because it WILL get raided. In short, s**t admins, and the community focusing on pvp. I'll forever miss the times where me and my peeps would try to loot a city on a rainy night irl and in game, or host pvps and talks in our makeshift gun store
waiting on people to build better bases is so true... I remeber raiding every base with my friend and we would have to legit have to wait on people to build stuff for us to raid. All you needed was a heartbreaker on washington and the game was complete
I started playing Unturned back in 2015 and have bit over 2000 hours on it. It will always have a special place in my heart. To this day I sometimes play it. I also met my best mate on it.
The last time I played this game was a few months back, the nostalgic memories of playing a game I sunk thousands of hours into both on both pc and Xbox. Unfortunately my Xbox broke in a move but my pc was still working so I booted up unturned and got a decent 3 hour session on.....or I would have if 20 minutes into a game, unturned decided my Made by me pc with damn near God specs wasn't enough to handle the game. My 4000 dollar gaming rig now sits up in my closet.....collecting dust as it can't even turn on anymore
Problem with unturned is that it attracts a few new players and even after they decide to try it out there's a huge chance they'll just bail because the game has a fuckton of quit moments for example seeing the atrocious UI in which a new player has million ways to lose where tf are they. that's a part in which almost any survival game bests unturned in cuz if you open rust or dayz let alone minecraft you will be able to navigate the ui smoothly after like 4-10 hours and the ui doesn't overwhelm you, also the graphic style doesn't appeal to everyone because it's a weird hybrid of minecraft and idk
well the game is just flawed in general, normally losing progress in games is actually a fun mechanic because it gives tension to every fight but in here its just stress. Its fun to lose minutes to an hour of progress in a roguelike but its not fun to lose days or even weeks worth of progress no matter what so any fights are just super stressful and not fun and that coupled with the VERY small time to kill in this game AND the fact there is no where on the map you can put your items where they will be safe because offline raiding is a thing and you get a recipe for disaster, I dont know how you never saw any exploiters during your playtime but anytime I tried to play it it was completelly infested with cheaters. The only time I ever had fun with this game was when modders put in a battle royale gamemode but that gamemode is completelly dead now so I cant even play it anymore...
Yeah, personally I had most fun in vanilla unturned server when in holidays. In normal days its impossible to play it due to offline raids, which imo is kind of part of the fun as me and my friends take turn in guarding base. But idk if other games have addressed these issue in a way where its both fair for the base owner / raider.
Ty for bringing back a memory. I used to play it with my friends when I was younger and man, it was fun. I tried to come back but the game was full of RP servers, pvp, creative and the most vanilla thing were servers with x5 or just straight pvp kits, when I finally find one of course the server was dominated by a ten man clan always online camping military base, we manage to raid their base but it was pointless some of them had donator kits so we decided just to quit the game. I loved playing on vanilla or semivanilla with starter kits and tp, but right now it is almost impossible to find a server like this with active players. At least I have good memories, I miss the earlier unturned days but sadly its over I dont want to come back.
this brings back memories. I usually use to play on creative servers since im not the most keen on pvp stuff but I loved making big manacial things or flying planes and the game just had that charm to it, blocky, simple and fun. this was a while ago though, long enough for my mythic hat to plummit from 20ish eur to 7
Something that I think made me like unturned more is that it was repetitive. I only played singleplayer and I never used any kind of mods. As an autistic person I think it was because I liked the routine.
I would recommend Nuclear Throne if you like the repetitiveness. Its a fast paced roguelike about mutants shooting other mutants to reach an angry chair. Small weapon pool, same locations and enemies every time, had me hooked for over 100 hours and counting
i really miss old unturned when i would have fun with friends now i barely play anymore because the game just got boring and most servers are just p2w. but you did describe unturned really well.
Quick answer is that, the game was much better on literal release, by adding so many weird stuff, including those giant zombies that run at you with the speed of flash, if ur online, people just fight each other, it's like Rust but worse becauase everything is blocky and weird, servers aren't exactly high quality and it's just overall messy.
I started unturned again 2 weeks ago after not playing for like 8+ years, and honestly I've had so much fun trying maps like RUSSIA, WASHINGTON and ARID in vanilla/semi vanilla with my friends, and there is always servers where u can play on with 20-50 and 50-100+ players. 5/5 I'd recommend!
i believe what led to this is the game losing its identity, catering more to pubby kids who dont know anything about advanced game mechanics who's main focus is PVP rather than being an actual survival game where you need to fight against hordes of zombies luckily though since the game is free and can be played offline its still quite fun solo and you can create your own server for free that caters to the survival aspect of it one thing I would love to be added here is AI Bot Bandits
I remember commenting on Nelson's Facebook page sometime ago to ask him to add Pigs for Bacon in the game. Weeks later it was added. It made me an instant fan of the game and played it as often as I can as a kid
i have 3500 hours of gameplay on unturned, i fell in love with the 2.0 game in 2014, and i've been playing on and off ever since. It's a kind of free version of rust with zombies pretty much. I'm not very into pvp oddly enough (and the game seems to have shifted towards a full pvp style), but the way you can build on cars and design bases opens lots of doors for fun gameplay
Unturned is genuinely one of the most fun games for me with its social chaos, and also one of the most played too. Albeit haven't played as much recently and don't know about alot of the current problems. but as others pointed out some of the RP servers are quite problematic currently especially the ones leech off people's money. Absolutely loved some RP servers though the chaos was unmatched. Nelson really needs to bring back the official content updates that added so much stuff with new maps and Unturned's ingame lore should be continued upon as well. It was fun to piece together the story and see people's theories. (Curator maps like Elver and Escelation are great though). The wave of P2W servers, smaller and sometimes negative changes suck, but lets keep hoping and even try to keep this gem of a franchise alive.
Oh yeah I used to watch a specific RUclipsr, Fudgy, play this game all the time. Seemed like it had some real potential back then. I clicked on this video because I knew something seemed familiar. Thank you for posting this, it seriously unlocked hidden memories from me.
Thank you for making this video amazing. I can confirm that unturned videos are 100% dead on youtube. Same situation happened to me when i switched from unturned to roblox videos.
I play unturned to this day since 2016, its on my most loved games list :) Edit: it seems that the game maps sadly wont get lore anymore since some years back... (I don't remember when it happened right now, but it was announced some years ago)
It was my most played game for many years which was only recently passed by War Thunder, it's sad to see the players have left but it's hard to expect people to stick around when others are leaving.
I started this game back in 2014 during early access, thinking that we could play it together with my friends once the game was fully released with new custom server settings. However, it’s still complicated, and you can only play with friends by joining the same server
I used to play this game so much during lockdown, I played it a bit last year and tbh, the most fun I had in the game was just making servers with friends, no PVP, just fun, we would hop on Russia and build giant base complexs, i think my most memorable times were playing with a group of friends on the Altis RP map and making up our own little stories. I cant bring myself to return to unturned because it just feels too different to the game it once was
The most recent big update made it so much more tedious to find servers and try out different multilayer experiences without knowing exactly what you were looking for for me
main issue are community commucation, there's quite a lots of good project/mod didn't get a good way to being noticed. plus the main game has content support issue(kinda) so things are not going totally ok sofar
but again, nelson tried to makes some features for creators. and some a bit of game tweak. if he didn't turns back in 2019 the this game gonna died earlier than today
11:31 if there was servers like that...now days no one opens Vanilla servers cuz its not worth the money for the host, so insted they open p2w pvp servers. I hope that one day, Nelson himself will expend the server browser and will add Vanilla/Official Tab like in rust, so then players will know that in that Tab there will be only pure vanilla servers
Played over 1600 hours in unturned and hosted a wide variety of semi vanilla servers, played it for years back in the day and also made content under the name "Alpha-1" but I haven't actually played unturned in years now, I don't even have it installed.. I'm sad to hear its dying. this game was a huge piece of my childhood arguably a bigger piece then Minecraft ever was
1500 hours, The ammount of Fun i had with my friends sometimes playing 7 hours straight, i dont consider those Hours wasted. Loved this game, still play it sometimes but sadly we are proablly getting GTA-7 before Unturned 2.
on my experience the people becomes too hostiles at the point no one talks in the chat and they kill at the moment they see you and well its bored no jokes no fun its just farm in silent with high inteligent npc that will kill you even if you dont have clothes on you
Loved unturned with my friends, absolutely amazing and fun game - but what we were not happy about were the servers and the fact that most of them weren't reliable for us (one day they were, another day they were gone), or that they reset like every night and we were more about collecting and building base stuff
Unturned is just too easy imho. I can just go onto servers and easily get the materials I need to raid the majority of the bases on the server (not actually have enough to raid them all but most bases can be raided with the equipment) in a few hours of playing. Getting a full metal base that is well defended is so difficult. The only way to guarantee your base not being raided is to be online when it happens but then they will just gather their supplies and come back when you are offline as they know who you are now. This applies to vanilla as I don't enjoy modded servers. Tldr: too easy to get raiding supplies and too difficult to make a strong base
Unturned's PvE is great and singleplayer can be a lot of fun. Having long quest lines make the game really enjoyable and more stuff like that would be welcome. More water vehicles would be nice, and the stacking features on maps like Arid and Escalation would be welcome additions to the baee game, but that can be fixed with mods. I dont play anything other than singleplayer, so i cant speak on the multiplayer and PvP aspects. If anyone knows of any good maps with lots of quests and locations, I'd be happy to hear them.
if youre starting unturned and dont want to make massive time commitments, i recommend a6 polaris, it's relatively fast paces without sacrificing lore, or the overall playstyle and in my opinion, even expands on it with an in-depth quest line and a very well done dead zone.
Did you know there was actually also a single developer porting it to android for a couple months? He got it running on super low end hardware too. sadly he got sent a cease and desist and had to stop working on it.
5k hour player here, the game has a huge amount of core problems and nelson doesn't want to work on the game anymore, but he still wants to make money from it
I started playing Unturned again a few days ago because of Buak, which add enough content to make it a unique experience, but as a PvE player who plays with friends on private servers, it might be the last time I play it, because the game is just dead. There is nothing new except random fixes. Even Buak - which I feel is a more PvE oriented map - is way too easy (I died like once, and it's because I ate explosive candies), food isn't a threat, water isn't a threat, zombies are even less of a threat and even mega are easy to deal with because zombies can't leave an area since 3.0. The game has a lots of issues since 3.0/its release that won't ever get fixed (the terrible inventory system which is just confusing with big inventories since you can't sort it, the crafting interface that gets cluttered a lot when you play with mods and the search feature is pretty much useless, and the vehicles physics - especially they have 2 wheels). I've also seen some people criticize its optimisation, but I've had no problem with it (my integrated gpu is around a GTX 1050 Ti / GTX 1060, which is quite old and with almost everything ultra it's not quite 60 fps but it still feels smooth). But for PvE, you're better off playing Project Zomboid (which may not be free but it's really worth it, even though it as its flaws it has better gameplay and mods)
@@surgey8919 the problem is that, yeah I can make it harder, but making a game harder just by cranking up some values (like zombie health for example) doesn't actually make it more fun because there's no extra gameplay depth to go with the enhanced difficulty. It also doesn't change the fact that the area zombies can move in is quite restricted, which makes the game much easier, and editing the config can't help with that.
Ive absolutely loved playing this game and wayyy too many hours put into it. In my opinion one of the biggest issues was there is a lack of spreading of information how to use various tools for the games code when map making, as well as a huge lack of development regarding the pve and zombies. Now the game is almost entirely just full pvp servers
I used to dream that one day i will play this game again with my friends and cousins without worrying my fps to drop while the graphics are set on high res. This dream was set back in 2015, and still hoping for it.
definetly one of the most fun parts of unturned is the modding community, all of the mods are so well made ( well most of them ) and actually fun, servers can litteraly do anything with the plugins and mods
First started to play Unturned (around the 2:05 mark) when the only map was PEI, and there was no automatic weapons in the game. I personally stopped playing around the time that Russia got released, and it was mostly because there was no more story to the game. Locations were interesting but i didn't feel like I was discovering anything new. I didn't play often enough to keep a base on multiplayer alive, and on singleplayer once I got a weapon id never die, especially once I had a gun. Just lost any kind of interest from me, no real challenge, nothing to search for except more loot to horde.
i was 9 years old, i watched my favorite youtuber play this game and invited viewers to download and make a big group. I discover steam and download my first ever pc game on a potato pc. History was made 10 years ago.
As someone who found out unturned is on Xbox and someone who watches nylexs unturned life rp basically religiously at this point I'm getting an Xbox series X in about 3 weeks I'm excited to try out unturned for the first time ever
This game was my childhood, and it pains me to see it be neglected so much. As of writing this, I have 2,122.7 hours on my main account and 794.7 hours on my alt.
i use to play this game on an old hp laptop. it made me get a job in high school so I could afford to build a budget PC back in 2016. would've been a good game if they kept updates coming
I liked Unturned alot but the game wasn't welcoming enough. there were 8 player gangs just ruining the server, one time one of them got betrayed and we helped him out, took em down but then i got bored.
It's actually so sad i just heard this video talk about unturned i'm installing that thing... woaw thank you even if its for a moment i want to play something ^^
I think a major issue overall is the reliance of the "survival" tag. The only thing separating it from a zombie shooter is the durability system that no one uses because it's annoying, the food & hunger system which is bypassed super easily, and the "lose things on death" mechanic that is more annoying than anything to at least myself. I think it would be very neat to go into a single-player-Tarkov style game, or at least introduce some maps with it in mind.
This was my fav game back then, I used to play this with the boys back then in 2020, Built a small base from hour to hour turning into huge base. Til one day each of my friend stopped playing this game, soon, I stopped playing it, one of best memories for my life
I HATE 3RD PERSON SO MUUUUUCH it is so unbalanced! It is camper gameplay sitting behind the wall and peeking it easy to shoot in 3rd person because you actually can zoom in 3rd person without opening the scope and shooting in 3rd person close range is 100 times easier than fpp, fpp is true survival gameplay. Also I hate non vannila survival servers, like tpa/home/kits/?x more loot because it is mega casual and easy people go and play those trash servers instead of real vannila experience. Also I hate melee pvp and shotguns cuz they are mega OP u can 1 shot full geared player using db. And I hate this game's community, people dont play old good curated maps, they play same maps for all the time, there are so much good maps, but people dont want to play them. I also hate full builded cars which are more like apc or even more armored than them! I also hate 1 sleeping bag idea and how building are getting raided, splash in raiding is very big. If your sleeping bag gets destroyed and u die 1 time u just spawn on spawn and u can do nothing from this moment. So overral I love this game, but some of mechanics and community of casuals are trash. (5k hrs player opinion)
There's still a decent playerbase that still active though. Sure it wasn't like the previous years, but there's more than enough vanilla servers still active
my personal opinion on the matter is that pvp games suck and nelson turned it from what i believe was meant to be a survival game (possibly with team aspects) into another shooter clone. like if people wanted to shoot kids in video games for a couple hours, just play cod. maybe even rust if you really still want the survival aspects. don't say they can't because i can see the mythicals these kids wear so we all know damn well they can afford to play other games. like you said, elver is a great map because the progression is inherently difficult and to fully 100% the map, even just in singleplayer, will take hours of effort and grinding to complete the just the face-value material. there is a lot of secret work put into the map, world-building, and supposedly universe-building (see kuwait) and having the game be a simple loop of "find gun, kill person, repeat" is a major downside for the game in my opinion. there is a lot of effort put into these maps, their story and their mechanics and all of them are brushed over and the secret achievements are listed in guides (often as instructions on how to cheat them) tl;dr people play this game for the wrong reasons, pvp sucks
This game used to be fun, hoped after the launch a few years ago that there were new stuff. Turns out it barely changed at all. I still have a fond memory of discovering the giant mutant titan and shitting myself after it chased me
This was my first PC game I played that I truely enjoyed, I have over 2k hours in it and have played the beta for unturned 2 (Its been years Idk if development is still going for it) but I hope unturned doesnt %100 die man. Such a wonderful game even with its flaws
as some one who played the game since dead zone. seeing the downfall of unturned is truely heart breaking. i even hosted a pure vanilie server for 4 years and it never broke more than 6 players on average which only further nailed in the point that vanilia unturned is dead. as much as i loved this game theres no real way to fix the problem. the game became to PVP centred so what would even be the point in talking to people. the only thing u might get for helping a person is reputation in game but that means nothing in the end of it all.
I remember playing Untruned all the time as a kid, building my own base and stuff was PEAK. But i dont even understand how to get into a game in the newest version
As soon as I reached 1k hours in 2022 I stopped playing. The servers were mostly empty and i had this weird feeling of spending many hours building a base no one would raid on a server no one played on. So I stopped fully. Now in 2024 I reinstalled it and tried playing different maps and such, found out P9ndas russia vanilla server with tpa and home. Its very fun! Sadly the game have made a huge mistake in an update, turning off voice chat for everyone and having to turn it on in settings which took me forever to find. So you dont hear people talk anymore, kills the vibe
Spent over 1k hours in this masterpiece, as young boy, building bases, raiding, and pvp was fire! so many good memories and even few new friends. Even my childhood is over and am gonna die in some random field of Ukraine or in battle of Moscow I still got my fingers crossed for Nelson and whole this project but with lack of development its gonna be dead or stay dead ;c
Played close to 300hrs on unturned and it’s like the simplest open world survival game out there. If you are new to the concept or want a more simple way to play it, unturned is a awesome game.
In my opinion, its because there arent any good servers anymore (most of them are ultra modded russian only servers) and 2 rediculous game mechanics.1. the mechanic where when you leave the server ur body with all your loot disappears and 2. THE GOD DAMN BED SYSTEM, I cant even count anymore how many times Ive had to restart a skybase build because of me accidentally unclaiming a bed.
I love Unturned, it was one of my favourite childhood games but this sad truth always hits hard, it used to be very popular and loved, there were many fun and nice servers alongside the beautiful singleplayer. I still feel very intense and emotional feelings when i see the old interface and especially the item textures lol :') I unfortunately witnessed the dying of the game and now you can't find any good server besides Escape From Unturnov or Rust servers, no good survival or even roleplay servers are left, if one comes out they die very quickly..Survival, PVP, Roleplay, PVE... they all were a blast to play and i didn't have experiences like that much in my life from games except a few and Unturned is one of them. We used to gather with my friend group and do Unturned reunions from time to time, picking up good servers after some searching but over the years it became less and less possible :( I still think about this game pretty much in my daily life whenever i remember it or find myself looking for a game in the style, theme of Unturned and a few others. Then i get hit by the inevitable thought of it being quite dead for a long time now, i think about how did that happen and after some time i just have my grief and move on. Dude, i still remember the 3.0 release and it was awesome! We used some beta access codes or something like that on Steam to play it earlier and it felt refreshing with all the new stuff, it was so cool!!! I had found it out before my brother did and i updated the game and set both of our computers up and we played it for the rest of the day, beautiful memories :')
Didn't expect this to blow up, thank you so much for 600 subscribers !!!💗💗
More videos to come 😉😉
short answer: it's been dead for years and the developer put it on life support rather than addressing its numerous core issues, it's just that trading bots and degenerates have been inflating player numbers and trying to keep the marketplace stable for personal gains.
im confused, i have 2000 hrs in unturned, ive yet to watch the video but i cant actually think of a single issue with the game apart from the fact its dead

It gave servers a slight bias towards pvp without tipping the scales too far into the madness, just enough to keep things active and competitive.
funny enough theres only currently 3-5 rp servers i know of that have above 10 to 80 players. (i have 2000+ hours on rp LMFAO)
Last time I played was about a year ago and I could scroll through the server list and find less than 10 "vanilla" unturned servers while everything else has kits and vaults and TPA and all the stuff that completely negates the survival aspect of the game and turns it into a sort of BR game.
@@zachgaines8349 missing them as well :(
@@zachgaines8349 2 months back i had a vanilla server and sometimes it got players but rarely.
There is new maps Buak,Polaris,Esclation
I agree, most of Unturned's Lore is still not fully known/complete, was really hoping for new maps to cover lore or more survival aspected maps.
@@dudukill1007 all of them curated bruh.
@@noobplaye1218 fr fr, I miss the more lore-survival aimed maps.
@@zman1064 no way the goat commented
@@zman1064 I completely agree, a lot of the curated maps feel detached from the lore which nelson set out regarding the outbreak but also I feel that official support to the multiplayer such as dedicated official servers with no plugins and a complete redesign of the server browser would greatly help as in my 200 something hours I only just found out about how to sort by descending player sizes something which would definitely be hard for new players
Didn’t expect to see zman here

I got a copy of Unturned II before I had enough hours to qualify for a ticket. I just emailed Nelson asking how many in-game hours I needed and he just gave me it.
TBH the reason why i haven't came back to the game is because how the game has become bloated and unoptimized that i can't even play it comfortably in single player.
Is that so? That explains the terrible experience I had when I tried to replay the game last year. Could barely run it at 5fps even though I was getting 40+ fps a four years prior. Thought my PC just got worse

For anyone here for information about why the game is dying and not boring information about it's mechanics:
Starting from 2022 Nelson (dev) starting to make a lot of changes community didn't wanted. Here's some examples:
Forced grass graphic parameter that destroyed fps for people on bad PCs (according to some of my folks). 3rd person nerf (everybody wanted maplestrike to be nerfed, not the 3rd person. Also, this change killed some modded maps balance, like France that had pretty balanced guns (like herstal))
Besides all that, he also did anti pay to win policy and after a month completely abandoned it (I even made a huge list of p2w servers that I reported back in the days, and only thing I've got was the message saying "you've miss understood the rules" (Even though most of the servers were EVEN SELLING /ITEM AND /VEHICLE))
All these changes made people quit and helped p2w servers to become swarmed with kids willing to pay money for kits and chat commands to gain stuff.
So, should you go and play unturned? No, not in its current state. I wish if there would be some independent project that would start developing this game starting from the movement update, because it was one of the last good updates we gained.
I have more than 5k hours in this game, trust me, it's not worth it anymore.
I should hire you to write scripts fr
Unturned is the one that even made me interested in gaming, now it's not even enjoyable

Project zomboid is amazing game man i love the heck out of its one of the best zombie survival games ever man
AND THE BIGGEST REASON OF THEM ALL, THEY REMOVED THE GREEN SKIN COLOR LITERALLY RACIST
For me a big problem with unturned is the fact that there isnt an ingame method of setting up a private server for a couple of players.
There was on the console version, however the devs stopped updating the console version 💀
There is a dedicated tool on steam
there is, i made a server for me and my friend only which you can join only through a code, and which was literally hosted on my computer

YES
I myself dont have a problem with curated maps being well curated but they should improve the whole Zombie Apocalypse part of the game, Zombies are just a loot drop and not a danger at all in this game
Try Ural mountains it's a workshop map with vanilla crafting and more zombie types and it's full of lore
@@markom7841 in my opinion curated maps have higher quality than whatever official unturned stuff that comes out, i however still dislike the heavy PVP focus
to be fair man, a LOT of people still play old vanillas, they rarely play curated except for a few masterpieces (arid, polaris, escalation)
You can experience low end, mid, and high end PvP gunfights all in that short time, that it hardly feels like an accomplishment to reach those peaks.

the thing imo is that it became a low budget robloxed 2019 fortnite, no one cares about the actual survival part which is the whole point of the game, the game itself IS fun, it is very good, it's just that the community ruins it
i played yesterday with my friends (both new to unturned), gathering loot together, helping each other and slowly progressing is very fun, a lot of people say that "Unturned isn't fun the way it is supposed to play, PvP is much better", idk about that, because coordinating your friends to explore the tunnels on Russia and having everyone turning the lights off by accident and shooting pistols blindly for a couple of seconds was one of the most fun moments i've had in my 20 years of gaming, the game itself is good (in fact, we are going to play tomorrow with 4 more friends) you just gotta play it right
btw PvP in this game is also very fun on PvP oriented servers, but the way PvE is underapreciated is just unfair
Funny to think of it as Robloxed 2019 Fortnite

Unturned nowadays are super PvP centric, Escalation is just a giant PvP arena with barely any serious survival elements
Underrated video, deserves more attention.
I sinked way to many hours into this game. Some of my favourite gaming memories were from unturned
For some reason, I would always return after a few years. I play on a totally random server, accidentally become friends with some random dudes. We start grinding, gaming and of course, goofin´ around. We form a deep friendship, I tell them they can join my huge friend group. _Cycle repeats_
_(That's why I have 940 Hours in the game, and I still absolutely suck at PVP. )_
My 2 cents are these: It died because of the server admins and the pvp focused community
As for the server, admin abuse was rampant in the few servers i used to play, and things got to a point where that limited the fun.
Problem with unturned is that it attracts a few new players
and even after they decide to try it out there's a huge chance they'll just bail because the game has a fuckton of quit moments
for example seeing the atrocious UI in which a new player has million ways to lose where tf are they. that's a part in which almost any survival game bests unturned in cuz if you open rust or dayz let alone minecraft you will be able to navigate the ui smoothly after like 4-10 hours and the ui doesn't overwhelm you, also the graphic style doesn't appeal to everyone because it's a weird hybrid of minecraft and idk
well the game is just flawed in general, normally losing progress in games is actually a fun mechanic because it gives tension to every fight but in here its just stress.
The only time I ever had fun with this game was when modders put in a battle royale gamemode but that gamemode is completelly dead now so I cant even play it anymore...
the battle royale mode unturned had was not modded
I usually use to play on creative servers since im not the most keen on pvp stuff but I loved making big manacial things or flying planes and the game just had that charm to it, blocky, simple and fun. this was a while ago though, long enough for my mythic hat to plummit from 20ish eur to 7
i'm blown away by the quality of your content!
@@FelgoTheMighty Nice, ill take that recommendation bru thank u
i really miss old unturned when i would have fun with friends now i barely play anymore because the game just got boring and most servers are just p2w. but you did describe unturned really well.
Dude all the music u kept picking kept giving me nostalgia 😩
i believe what led to this is the game losing its identity, catering more to pubby kids who dont know anything about advanced game mechanics who's main focus is PVP rather than being an actual survival game where you need to fight against hordes of zombies
luckily though since the game is free and can be played offline its still quite fun solo and you can create your own server for free that caters to the survival aspect of it
one thing I would love to be added here is AI Bot Bandits
I have horrifying 2k hours in Unturned and that's the game of my childhood. I still have hope that Unturned 4.0 will released at some point
As a youtuber who plays Unturned, I find the game to be very good - and its even free!

I play unturned to this day since 2016, its on my most loved games list :)
Edit: it seems that the game maps sadly wont get lore anymore since some years back... (I don't remember when it happened right now, but it was announced some years ago)
It was my most played game for many years which was only recently passed by War Thunder, it's sad to see the players have left but it's hard to expect people to stick around when others are leaving.
i remember watching my brother and cousin play this game over a decade ago, this brings back sm nostalgia

Legendary video for a legendary game from a legend of a developer
if youre starting unturned and dont want to make massive time commitments, i recommend a6 polaris, it's relatively fast paces without sacrificing lore, or the overall playstyle and in my opinion, even expands on it with an in-depth quest line and a very well done dead zone.
But for PvE, you're better off playing Project Zomboid (which may not be free but it's really worth it, even though it as its flaws it has better gameplay and mods)
try editing the configs to make it harder if you find it too easy
@@surgey8919 the problem is that, yeah I can make it harder, but making a game harder just by cranking up some values (like zombie health for example) doesn't actually make it more fun because there's no extra gameplay depth to go with the enhanced difficulty. It also doesn't change the fact that the area zombies can move in is quite restricted, which makes the game much easier, and editing the config can't help with that.
I just hosted a server. A6 Polaris as the map and its semi-vanilla. (Tpa, Home,Kits)
sounds great always wanted to play polaris will check it out for sure
Used to play THIS way to much and I would switch between this and rust.
oh my god thank you so much for saying this. TPA, HOME, KITS, 100X loot rubbish ruins the game
I played the 1.0 version and it was rough. im glad to see that the games still being updated
As a 6900 hour player,i'd say you aren't wrong
i use to play this game on an old hp laptop. it made me get a job in high school so I could afford to build a budget PC back in 2016. would've been a good game if they kept updates coming
I liked Unturned alot but the game wasn't welcoming enough. there were 8 player gangs just ruining the server, one time one of them got betrayed and we helped him out, took em down but then i got bored.
It's actually so sad i just heard this video talk about unturned i'm installing that thing... woaw thank you even if its for a moment i want to play something ^^
you literally made me open steam and reinstal the game while watching
(5k hrs player opinion)
spunds like minecraft fr
There's still a decent playerbase that still active though. Sure it wasn't like the previous years, but there's more than enough vanilla servers still active
my personal opinion on the matter is that pvp games suck and nelson turned it from what i believe was meant to be a survival game (possibly with team aspects) into another shooter clone. like if people wanted to shoot kids in video games for a couple hours, just play cod. maybe even rust if you really still want the survival aspects. don't say they can't because i can see the mythicals these kids wear so we all know damn well they can afford to play other games.
like you said, elver is a great map because the progression is inherently difficult and to fully 100% the map, even just in singleplayer, will take hours of effort and grinding to complete the just the face-value material. there is a lot of secret work put into the map, world-building, and supposedly universe-building (see kuwait) and having the game be a simple loop of "find gun, kill person, repeat" is a major downside for the game in my opinion. there is a lot of effort put into these maps, their story and their mechanics and all of them are brushed over and the secret achievements are listed in guides (often as instructions on how to cheat them)
tl;dr people play this game for the wrong reasons, pvp sucks
This game used to be fun, hoped after the launch a few years ago that there were new stuff. Turns out it barely changed at all.
I still have a fond memory of discovering the giant mutant titan and shitting myself after it chased me
This was my first PC game I played that I truely enjoyed, I have over 2k hours in it and have played the beta for unturned 2 (Its been years Idk if development is still going for it) but I hope unturned doesnt %100 die man. Such a wonderful game even with its flaws
I remember watching a lot of videos on this game. I tried it recently, but i was too casual to know how to play, lol
I remember playing this with an old ass PC (4GB RAM DDR3) back in 2018 for some months, then it got so unoptimized that i couldn't even open it.
as some one who played the game since dead zone. seeing the downfall of unturned is truely heart breaking.
i even hosted a pure vanilie server for 4 years and it never broke more than 6 players on average which only further nailed in the point that vanilia unturned is dead.
as much as i loved this game theres no real way to fix the problem. the game became to PVP centred so what would even be the point in talking to people. the only thing u might get for helping a person is reputation in game but that means nothing in the end of it all.
someone just make a washington full vanilla server and we all play on it
I remember my golden years in unturned late nights with friends living the life frfr
The game also has an incredibly easy to learn level editor
So you dont hear people talk anymore, kills the vibe
i put 300 hours into that game without even realizing it back in the day, servers were always dead tho near the end
I still feel very intense and emotional feelings when i see the old interface and especially the item textures lol :')
I unfortunately witnessed the dying of the game and now you can't find any good server besides Escape From Unturnov or Rust servers, no good survival or even roleplay servers are left, if one comes out they die very quickly..Survival, PVP, Roleplay, PVE... they all were a blast to play and i didn't have experiences like that much in my life from games except a few and Unturned is one of them. We used to gather with my friend group and do Unturned reunions from time to time, picking up good servers after some searching but over the years it became less and less possible :(
I still think about this game pretty much in my daily life whenever i remember it or find myself looking for a game in the style, theme of Unturned and a few others.
