I cant remember specifically the size, but if I were to put it up to my thumb, it'd be a tad smaller than the last knuckle/tip portion of my thumb. Lol I'm sitting here looking at my thumb rn 😅. The leader was a piece of mono l, I believe. 20 or 30lb.
I have caught so many sturgeon on the Cumberland River head waters .. it's not uncommon to catch 10 or more a day in a way I wished they were harder to catch. They get on my nervers
Good luck! I think we caught like 9? It was a busy day for sure. If you use red worms on a small hook the trout should be biting. Or of course some sort of in-line spinner or a soft plastic jerk bait.
@@thesaltygoogan ended up not having any luck the day I went, but the water was way too rough. I’m going to head back in a few days I think. Did you have any issues getting hung up on the bottom? Any specific weight/hook rig you used? I broke off like 6 times, but I think a lot of that had to do with how much water they were letting out.
@@alexgrigsby996 so the thing is, to my understanding that outflow is governed by a few things, the spillage over the main dam, and the generation of electricity. There are 3 or 4 turbines they run. You can tell how many turbines they are supposed to run but not which ones. This day they were running the 2 farthest ones i think. That way the water circled back to us so snags weren't a thing. If they turn the closest ones on its hard to fish far out. Hope this helps 🙏
That’s awesome. What kind of bait and tackle setup were u all using? Fishing tight line on bottom? Also, is there anyway of knowing when they will kick on that near generator. I’m a few hours from there and would hate to make a trip down if it was unfishable for the day.
awesome video guys. i love sturgeon they are one of my favorite fish. they are a great fighting fish. it is awesome they are doing so good. they are doing great on up the Cumberland. I like nick I haven't meet him in person yet but he seems like an awesome guy
Great video..I totally understand on being hooked on those sturgeon. I started catching them here in TN a couple of years ago and now they are my favorite fish to target. I recommend trying to catch them in kayak next time, crazy fun.
This was some really sweet content! Love the muskies man but this is just one of those fishing trips you don’t see every day! Good to see you put one in the bag!

Great video, what type and size of hook are you using? also are you putting a flouro carbon tipit at the front of the braid or straight braid to hook?

I can see that. Long fights when you're not fishing for them would be aggravating for sure.
I’m going to head out there this weekend to try and catch one! How many did you all catch between the 3 of you?

I learned how to surf cast on a heavy ugly stick like that. Awesome catch! 👌
Nice 🤟 they definitely have some whip to them! Thanks man
I live downstream a few miles and had heard of a couple of catches but was skeptical. I will be making a trip to Wolf Creek to give em a try.
Nice! I hope you catch some.
I’ll check out the evolving angler podcast
Awesome! Thanks brother!
I think you meant to say 'Nick has a face for radio".
Lol definitely the voice, though he has a face made for fishing memes!
lol you punk! Gotta take you with us next time!
What did you use for bait?
Nightcrawler and cut bait
Hay bud please tell me where is this
Wolf creek dam below Lake Cumberland Kentucky.

I haven't figured out when to tell which exact generators will be on. But we were using basically heavy catfish gear with worms and cut bait!!
Great video 🐋
Thanks david!!
