Omg I just found your channel, perfect as I am trying to become a writer and director. Do you have any advice, do you think one should jus go for it and make the feature? I’d love to know more about your film, and how you got it made. This industry is crazy 😅
Hi! Thank you for joining in this community! I'm very glad to hear you are working on becoming a writer and director. I would say, making a feature film is definitely better than film school. You really get to know ins and outs of indie filmmaking this way. It's a journey that's long, exhausting but totally worth it. This is what I would do differently if I would do it again for making my first feature: I would making simple no budge short films on the side while I'm writing the feature film. And then, going to film festivals with short films to meet potential collaborators, or even producer who likes my style and willing to jump on board to help me fund for the film. Also, I would go to festival to talk to the people who is attending with their feature film, in that way, can learn a lot about distribution and publicity from them. I found when I was making my film, it was the unknowns created a lot of fear to hold me back, waste a lot of time and resources. Learn more about these things while you're writing can help you get ready for producing your feature. I have a few videos on the topic of my film, here is one on top of my mind: ruclips.net/video/9ubZVhqILNU/видео.html Here's another one my friend came on board discuss about his film: ruclips.net/video/2KcUE4imrrI/видео.html
@@NaniLiYang Amazing I will check them out! Oh also, I have done so called Film School (Not in the US (so its kind of different teaching style and length). the focus was very much on the practical doing - versus theory and writing). I'm in between, It's either get jobs in the industry straight away (assistant, etc). or Just making stuff (short films, indie stuff). I just find being a director especially...there is no clear pathway to the role. It's either work in the industry (they define your level/roles) V.S Outside of the industry (define your own roles). Both pathways take a lot of time. It seems it is clear to go with short films and indies etc. (seems to be the way lots of directors gained their success, rather than working their way up). Still I am some what unsure.
Same here, my film school was also not hands on than theory. From what you described, I feel the roads to film directing are similar. I think no matter which way we choose, we still need to keep writing, making films(short or long), and then we need find ways to showcase them. Thank you for sharing, it’s interesting to hear things are similar in different part of the world.
Thank you always, Nani!
Thank you ☺️
Thanks for your videos Nani ❤you’re an inspiration
Thank you so much ☺️ 💛
