Have been listening to Willie since the late 50's. Used to look like a high school English teacher. Close and tight haircut, suit shirt and tie. Boy have times changed.
Willie can do no wrong. Hie is Country Music personified. A liviing deity of the arrt. Many artists have recorded this number and for me the Elvis version will always be the touchstone. Willie does it pround, though. Massive respect.
Willie puts that Nelson touch on any song he does, always been a fan even years before he became a big star, some of his best work was before the Red Headed Strangers Album
I don't know Mr. Willie Nelson, but my deepest respects for him and his music. I have always admired him as he is truly genuine and down to earth. Keep on moving the spirits.
As someone who's living with mental illness, I can relate to this song on so many levels. Probably not why this song was written, but I can relate to it nonetheless.
this just makes my heart swell and my eyes fill with tears...such a touching feeling..right down to your soul...no matter who does it. as long as there is a good singer and great musicians...the subject is so very sad...I just want to put an arm around his shoulders and help Charie feel better......

@jimincairns until you can learn/until you have learned to debate in a mature fashion and not resort to name calling i am not going to respond to any of your further insults. i stand by all of my previous statements.
@jimincairns willie ain't got nothing on merle haggard and the original hank williams. as a song writer, willie ain't got nothing on merle haggard, hank williams, harlan howard or roger miller. just because someone is/was popular that does not make them the best. if being popular = best, then i guess justin bieber is the best right now...and i know that ain't so. you can not debate logically. you must resort to name calling.
@jimincairns he is just a user. he used more established stars to get where he is and now he uses the younger generation to help him remain in the lime light. there is no way this version of this song can stop the original by danny o'keefe. i am sorry that you are brain washed by the media and can't make up your own mind about anything. name calling: real mature. someone disagrees with you and you resort to name calling! impressive way to back up your opinion.

Nobody beats Willie Nelson. Not even the next generations. Willie Nelson is untouchable.
Willie has a way of making every song his. I've been enjoying his music since the 1970's.
Willie Nelson sings this song beautifully. But Elvis Presley sings it in such a way that it takes your breath away, if you haven't heard it, listen.
A lovely, sad song. Willie did good but then again, he always does.

Check out the Leon Russell video of this song. Guess who's in it with him ?
love Willy, but Charlie Rich was the best at singing this awesome song
Willie has the kind of voice, we can relate. A kind, sad, beautiful voice.
Nothing against Charlie Rich, but Waylon Jennings sings the best cover of this song. Willie Nelson's is is good too.
