Fun fact about the isopod’s slideshow: Aside from the moving fresh flesh, garden snail parasites, and some organ being melted in acid, the rest of the live-action footage is a bunch of rather tame stuff badly cropped to look more disturbing than they actually are.
There’s microscopic images of worms, jellyfish larvae and algae, a close-up of a brain coral, a clip of some nutcase pouring milk in rice, jankily-cut burnt lasagna and meat load, a photo from the deck of a fishing boat, and a lot of footage of octopuses and squids guarding their eggs and changing skin color.
I can’t tel if I’ve been blessed or cursed with this excessive knowledge of marine biology and cooking stuff to the point of not being grossed out.
This makes me feel a bit better. Thanks

And it's also a dark twisted comedy (example: the song playing during the credits, the reveal of the meaning of the title), PETA would just be straight up make everything bloody, and of course add a text at the end that promotes going vegan.

That song and dance had no meaning. The point was how it was to be one of those never choosing fish. The game is about choice, and not in the sense that you can choose things, but addressing choice. No one knew what up or down meant, which is why they put so much weight on that choice. The dance isn’t to represent a moral philosophy, but to show what happens to those who took too long without choosing; they suffer from not making a decision. I recommend Jacob Geller if you want more info. It’s called “Gross Games about Flesh and Stuff.”

I feel like with the whole "A lot of people are going through the same thing" spiel at the end, the fish game might in the weirdest way be a metaphor for... well, any hardship I suppose, but specifically depression or existential crises? Like, in the game, all the other fish you encounter are going through the same thing, so "you're not alone" - but is that comforting? No, because all the others seem just as clueless and pathetic in their grasping for answers as you.
You know just as little as everyone else, yet it still fills you with disdain to listen to them pondering the problem as though their pain was the grandest (one contemplating whether to follow the advice of loved ones, one turning to idolatry, one supremely sure of their own wisdom, etc.). "I hate talking about it. Because I hate people who talk about it."

I can’t remember the last time mark played a game that made him so disgusted, confused, and horrified as this that last game.
There was that game where he played as a pair of butt cheeks in a butt cheek world or something. He spent like 2 minutes of the intro just repeatedly warning everyone watching to only watch if you thought you could take it, and that if you did watch it you weren't allowed to leave until the end because if he had to go through that so did whoever chose to watch it.
It was... quite a game idea...

@@maddieb.4282I think where the disagreement comes from is the fact that one is pulled from the “original” to fit one’s narrative, and a lot of the time, used to justify poor behavior. People will be quick to invalidate it because of this. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but a big reason why people now are very quick to correct it.
I know I was satisfied with correcting the old heads in my family that constantly shoved the “incorrect” version of the quote down my throat. It’s kind of like the whole “honor your mother and father” thing but they neglect to exercise their responsibility to not provoke their children to anger (I’m not a Bible expert don’t come for me). Ik it’s not exactly the same but the context of the settings they’re usually used in definitely is.

Fascinating! The last game to me seemed to symbolize how no one wants to be alone, truly, even if the relationships we choose are unhealthy. We’re all insecure, unsure and struggling, but ultimately we feel alone in our feelings despite knowing others go through the same. In fact, sometimes knowing that you’re just like everyone else, but still alone is somehow worse. In the grand scheme of things we’re insignificant and it’s terrifying and feels hopeless. Lol I should go to bed, that last game made me feel like his game play of SOMA did. Anyone remember that game? That one’s stuck with me.

a lot of those phrases seem to have been trimmed to invert their meanings
Each version is trimmed or reverse of what they meant. Doesn't mean that the new ones are wrong in themself, it's who and how it's used. curiosity killed the cat one is good example, the long one is after the short one but two versions means two different things.
I played the Musical Montage 3 times. Once with eyes closed to hear the beat, one to watch for (and test) my morbid curiosity, and another to monitor Mark’s fantastic reaction. It was fantastic honestly.

“How fish are made” felt like a twisted commentary on life and depression. I could be wrong but that’s what some of the ending sequence made me decide. Plus the staying true to your decisions and seeing others struggle as well. It seemed dark but representative in some way.

Watching Mark squick at the Parasite Song honestly was hilarious to me. I have a horrible fear of parasites myself so maybe watching him go “what the fuck” was comforting in a morbid way?
Also, I really liked something about How Fish Is Made but I can’t explain what about it. It’s some kind of metaphor for dealing with trauma and depression I think considering the monologue at the end about pain, but I didn’t get enough context to fully understand. It’s really interesting though.

I'm glad lixian put the warning for the music part, i stupidly watched part of it cause i was so curious and then regretted it after like 5 seconds. i also like how he always says when it's okay to look again, it's really helpful. honestly the only thing i wish was different is putting a warning for trypophobia or other types of phobias, ESPECIALLY with the part where mark has to walk through the tunnel filled with that sfuff, since i used to have SEVERE trypophobia to the point where I'd have really bad panic attacks, its not to that level anymore but it still disgusts me *a* *lot* and not a lot of people talk about it either. but other than that, i think it's really considerate and helpful that he puts those warnings

Making horror games can actually be a lot harder than it first seems. Kind of how even if you listen to music for 20 years, actually making music is still difficult.
@@arcticfox037 that just depends on how much time you put into learning to do that thing. i'm a very amateur composer (if you can even call me that), and tha basics for composition are something that could be learned in like a month if you dedicated to that. Mark's experience would help him because he didn't jus play those games for that long, but because he introspected over many of them "was that one good? why? what made it good? what made it bad?" if you listen carefully and critically to music for years, you would just need a little help to start composing too.
now, all i said is valid just for the direction of the game, i know absolutely nothing about programming, so the actual programming of the game may be really, REALLY hard, i wouldn't know, just wanted to throw my two cents

Pretty sure something like that was made by PETA. Or some kinda beings who say, "Don't eat meat!", This is why I always make sure the meat I eat is DONE. Complain about it being partially charred all you want; I know nothing is living inside it cause that meat is COOKED.

I think it's intended as a way to tease you with a glimpse of where you just were in normal reality, just inches away, but you're stuck half-clipped through part of a wall in an alternate dimension. Kinda sadistic, really.

It eats out the tongue of the fish and then eats whatever it consumes leaving just enough for the fish to survive

@@jamessparks1625 except tongue-eating louses don't do that, because the intention of a parasite is not to kill their host, as that would be besides the point. They also don't really eat the food fish eat, but rather the blood or mucous of the fish itself. Fish can live for years with these parasites.

If you're talking about the rephrasing "blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" (ignore this if not), that saying came centuries after the original "blood is thicker than water". The rephrasing came from a movement of choosing your own family over your biological one. The fact that people have been spreading rumors about a phrase that is so easily searchable on Google is a little disappointing, but it's even more disappointing that people believe it without doing the research themselves. It took me 5 minutes to check the validity of these claims.

If you read OP's comment, they said "so many people get it wrong". To me, that implies that OP is under the impression that "blood is thicker than water" is getting misinterpreted.
