He could have. I thought George's part sounded too woody and like an acoustic. I figured it was the J160 plugged in. ManWithNoExpression pointed out that John's J160 was stolen by this point, and he is definitely on an acoustic. The Tennessean is likely. I don't have one though, I borrowed one a few years ago and filmed a bunch, but not this one
@@ablyhouseisolated It's the J160E all over that jangly LP, the Gretsch was mostly those clean country lines and leads in that "For Sale" or in USA "'Beatles 65" era. I played a '63 J160E at a guitar show here in SoCal and just strummed the first C riff of This Boy on it and I almost flat out fainted it sounded EXACTLY like every Beatle song rhythm on the first few LPs. Of course John played George's J160E after his was stolen, but the irony is the serial numbers show George's was John's and vice versa and we all know the stolen one was found years later in of all places San Diego on the wall in a music store - minding it's own business not knowing it was the most famous acoustic on earth. Oilivia has George's. 🎸
I'm actually trying out half-wounds on the J160 and I like them quite a bit. Neil and I used to discuss how modern flat wounds seem to flat or something, because in many instances when the Beatles are using flat wounds, you can still hear plenty of string slide noise. Different brands have their own ways of producing flats and I ended up liking Labella and GHS the best. I believe the half-wounds are Diaddario which I don't like for flats. The pyramid ones seem hyped up too as "the Beatles" flat wound. However, I lean towards what sounds better even if its less accurate
Hi, Knowing that the Beatles may have used the strings that were factory set on the guitar, I woud like to add that i got hold of old gibson sonomatic strings Hi fi flatwounds and mona steel. The mona steel are way less magnetic than modern strings it's hard to get volume on the 4 wound strings without ajusting polepieces or pickup height. On my epiphone ej160e lennon signature it sounded anemic plugged in and so the 2 plain strings sounded too loud.If your curious try Martin retro they sound quite similar. The hi fi flatwound are something else it breathe so much for a flatwound , its more like a roundwound sound than pyramid are but also if overdriven it gives that old school tone eard on elvis presley's houd dog on scotty moore's Gibson L5.I still have to try them on a 160-e but i only got 2 spare pack left so i may not.I did put another set of those hi fi flatwounds on my gretsch electromatic jet, there again its punchier than pyramids.I havent tried yet the new pyramid flats in purple pack, have you ?
Love that song alor and thanks for your tribute to that band. Great guitars.

Just curious, but why not just upload both John and George’s parts together?
This is an isolated track from the main channel of ablyhouse - for full cover of No Reply see: ruclips.net/video/CSgT06Nibko/видео.html&feature=share
I sometimes do because I like hearing the guitars together. I can add this one to the Bonus channel in a couple days
I thought he used the Tennesseean on No Reply
