Just what I was looking to hear, Patrick. Thanks!
Good point. I have an M2 iPad 2022 and it delivers everything with extremely low latency. I can actually use Bluetooth keyboards (Korg MicroAir 61) without missing a beat. That iPad and the newer ones are great for intense gaming etc. it’s already overkill for music
Edit: and say nothing of the compatibility issues which may crop up. Those poor developers
I love my thick iPad Pro and it’s nice thick case. I know when I’m holding it. I had no idea I wanted a paper thin model.
I think your recommendation is spot on. M1 Pros are frequently available at discount or available 2nd hand / refurb and are more than up to the task in 2024. And hopefully a little less painful on the wallet, especially if you want all the accessories which have all been replaced with new versions! Thanks for the concise and to the point video (as always)!
most of us are fine with what we have. go back to making music. let those that need it buy, do their thing and we all can be happy. thanks for attending my Ted Talk. stay safe.
I’ll be interested to see how many concurrent instances of Mariana my new M4 iPad will be able to handle. 😀 With AUM still not supporting multicore, it may not be much more than before. But I’m expecting I’ll get more with Logic. I’d agree that the M4 is probably overkill for most iPad musicians, but since my iPad is my primary computing device, I felt it was worth going for the top-of-the-line.
I have 9th generation with A13 bionic. Works fine for me, but I'm mainly doing sketches without any complicated processing.
me too
Been watching plethora of reviews of that 🍏events the whole day... However, THIS IS THE ONE I was waiting for - Thanks Patrick! 🤗 Sadly, no lurv from 🍏 for the ipad mini ... 😒
I know! Really want to see it updated this year.
I'm not a Apple guy so this very well could be wrong. I read recently that, at least the last ipad mini 6, was announced alongside the iphone 13. Mind you so was the ipad 9 and yet it was showcased with the new ipad pro and air this time around. Point is, there's still hope.
Finally ready to upgrade my old 2015 iPad Pro 12.9! The 13" Air is looking like a win for me, don't need all the crazy features and also no way in hell I'm looking to spend £1300!
I bought an iPad Pro 11” 256GB M2 earlier this year and not a single app I use is pushing the M2 to its limits (Affinity apps, Octane X, NomadSculpt, Cleo3D, Cubasis 3, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Logic Pro and some impressive 3D games). The M2 iPad Pro is already overpowered. With the Logic Pro benchmark from Music Prod, I can run 66 (!!) tracks. Great 👍 video.
👍 thanks for the info. How's 256GB working out in terms of storage space? Would you rather have gone for a 512GB given all your apps and use cases? Thanks
@@sonickmoon No. 256GB is enough for me. I use an external SSD to store large sample libraries. I think 256GB is the minimum if you do anything creative on your iPad Pro.
I’ve got a 2020 iPad which I bought ONE WEEK before they announced the M1 model. I would get nearly £400 in trade in for said iPad if I do go for it.
Still very satisfied with my IPad Pro M2.
Same, no plans to upgrade here.
I think it's all pretty cool, but I do wonder if tech is running far ahead of what anyone really needs. Great rundown Patrick.
Good point Scott. It’s also running ahead of what iPadOS is currently capable of imo.
bought the iPad Air (used to have a laptop) and trying to get back into using garageband and maybe upgrade to Logic2. For the life of me cannot fine a good answer as to how to avoid latency while recording audio tracks. where using an Audio interface or going direct with a mic into the iPad, there is no where for a hardwired headphone input/output. I tried my Bluetooth earbuds and that is a disaster. Any advise?
same here
I just wish there were better midi drums. Along the lines of GGD or EZdrummer. These ipads have been more than capable of handling them for a few years now. It's the only thing really stopping me from pulling the trigger on getting one.
That would be awesome! 👏
I’ve noticed a weird bug in GarageBand and I’m curious if this is something that’s known or perhaps there’s a fix. It seems to only occur with a bass track. When I press play, the bass track doesn’t kick in until 2 bars late. Hard to explain, but basically all other tracks play when they’re supposed to but the bass track doesn’t play until it’s about 2 bars in.
Is it a MIDI bass recording? Could be that the MIDI notes are triggering a little before the first beat of the first bar in your project. Try opening the editor and resizing the notes?
@@TheGaragebandGuide Both times this occurred, I was using the Alchemy Synth to record a synth bass line (using the touch instrument)
A new M4 13" iPad Pro with 16G of RAM and a 1T storage comes to the same price as a Macbook Pro M3 with16G of RAM and a 1T SSD. The Macbook is just as portable, has more ports and you can actually OWN Logic instead of renting it... Just saying...
Yep, very good points.
It really comes down to use case, and whether the touch-oriented iPad is a better fit.
@@gr-os4gd Exactly. It all depends on your workflow and preferences. For instance, I often sketch my songs in GB on iPad (regular 9th gen) and do the real and final recording in Logic on a Mac Mini M1. That workflow is perfect for me. But it's different for everybody. Having those 2 options at the same price is something to consider and that's surely not a bad thing. 😀
But you don’t have all pro apps that the macbook offered like: ableton, reason12, Bitwig or Flstudio ect ect
@@Dt3kno And, as I said, it all depends on your workflow and preferences. I use GB on iPad for sketching the songs but do the real recording in Logic on Mac. And you can do the same thing using Cubasis on iPad and Cubase on Mac, If you use a different program, you'll obviously have different need. The main point is use what works for you so that you can work naturally and concentrate on the most important part... making the music. That's the final goal after all.
QUESTION: I have a 2 years old iPad Air and a Scarlett interface which I connect using a camera adapter. I use Garage Band to record my music. It works well unless I have to use a condenser microphone. In that case the 48V phantom power of the Scarlett doesn't work. Is there a way to make it work? Is there a device for a small price that I can buy to make it work? Thanks for your replies.
It’s a lack of power .condenser mics need more power than dynamic or guitar cables . have you tried a powered usb hub ?
@@clear_gray_sky539 Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried it. I was looking for a recommendation for one that works well with an iPad.
solution: powered USB HUB as he said
iPad mini pro is missing 😱🙄😤
So true!
Double storage because double the price
Creating music on an iPad Pro, doesn't make you a musician! Hang in there, Bud!
?
Why are so many RUclipsrs trashing Apple and Sony so much when their stuff is so good?
It’s better than anything any RUclipsr produced, that’s for sure.
What? Where did I trash either Apple or Sony?
