Dave, man. You have the best channel and even the most positive comment section I have ever seen! You are a fantastic teacher, your voice is soothing which makes is easier to focus and stay on task. Amazing channel, and the effort and care you put in these vids is stellar! Thanks, bro! Btw, I call you the Bob Ross of sculpting.
Thank you so much, Dave. I felt pretty useless and desperate sculpting in Nomad, though I’m pretty good working with clay in real life. Now it all makes sense. You’re a great teacher.
Thank you so much for this!!!! I've messed in Nomad for months and got nowhere. Your tutorial made it make sense and I feel so confident now! I can't wait to create more and look forward to your videos and inspiration!
I'm on a mission to build a portfolio atm and just started to dabble in 3D - let me just say Dave that your tutorials are invaluable! Thank you so much for sharing your skills and time ❤
Thank you so much, Dave! This video really helped me a lot because i thought all the buttons and features were so confusing, and i started to get really frustrated. Thanks again, Dave!🤗
The trick with the tongue was good bro.❤ I always appreciate your art💖 With the ears, I use boolean to cut without left notthing. I like my models with low poly and good shape.
This is a super good tutorial! Very easy to follow and you have a calming voice to listen to. I saw one of your shorts where you made the girl and it made me want to get Nomad sculpt, so now I’ve got it and at first I had no clue what I was doing so I looked for you and sure enough you have a tutorial! Thanks man 🙏🏾
Hi Dave. Another great vid thank you. Thanks also for the effort put on the video description. It's amazing how full is it of everything anyone could need. My only regret is that there's not chapters in your vids. For people like me who are beginners but had already watch your other videos, and don't need all informations from the scratch like an absolute beginner, it could be helpful to see which point we should need or not in this kind of upgrade tutorials. Just an idea. See ya !
Amazing amazing amazing!!! Followed along with your tutorial most of the way after being mystified by nomad for yeaars, and understood it well enough by the end that i was able to go rogue and make my own character!! Fantastic tutorial thank you so so much!!
So glad to hear!! Some things are just tricky even for me, but usually there is a way to get the result we want. Nomad makes sculpting pretty fun, so I’m always happy to help others get used to it! 😊😊
GREAT video. Definitely subscribed. Quick question on the tube tool. I tap-n-drag, release, tap a distance away and drag, but the second tap n drag moves the camera. It doesn't drop that next node. It looks like I have the same settings clicked as you. Snap off, B-spline, "closed" is unchecked/white. I've also noticed that sub menu you have, top center, is not there for that tool. I'll keep plugging away! Thank you for doing this!
@@elrishiilustrado9592 I did, but not the right way. I tapped "loop" and my single line turned into a closed 3d torus-worm. Tap "loop" again to turn it off and I had my tube with ends I could modify like he shows.
At the 6:21 mark where you said apparently for some people 'Auto' is off. The material setting is a sort of override, so to speak. 'auto' takes whatever value you have set under display settings (gear icon over on the upper right of the screen); and if you choose "On" or "Off" under material settings, it will override any setting you have specified under your display settings. So if you have Smooth Shading enabled under Display Settings, then "Material Settings > Smooth Shading > Auto" will have it enabled; and likewise if Smooth Shading disabled under Display Setting then Auto in the Material Settings will result in Smooth Shading being off.
The other benefit of using the option under Material Settings is that you can decide what to have auto/on/off on a Shape by Shape basis. Whereas the options under "Display Settings" are more like Global settings. So you can set things up the way you typically want them, using the Display Settings section; and use Material Settings to get more granular control if you want to enable/disable something just for certain specific shapes/objects.
It seemed to me on multiple occasions people has it off by default, but mine has always been auto/on to my knowledge. Things like that are tough with tutorials, especially beginner videos. It’s easy to get in the weeds and people get confused. I confuse myself half the time 😊
Thank you for the informative lesson. I have a question. When I try to use the tube tool as you did at the 15:45 mark in your video, I don’t get the same result. I select path and b-spine, just the way you did. I click for the first point, then drag for the second, just as you did. But then when I try to click for the third point, all that happens is that my scene starts to rotate. I’m not able to continue the tube. I tried this on both my iPad Pro and my iPhone with the same result. I can only click on the green dot to create a tube and then add more points to it. I haven’t validated the tube yet, so that’s not the issue. Please help! Thank you
The app updated and changed the way the tube tool works, now you must make first and end point, then add points in the middle. Personally I prefer the older method, but oh well 👍🏾
This is such a great tutorial! I've started modelling as of recent but the only issues i am having is with the masking tool seeing how smooth yours is, mine is more pixels and was wondering if there was a way to fix that :(
hey Dave, awesome tutorial. just have a question....Im trying to add the tube for the leg, but form some reason, when I drag the pencil down to add the edge of the spline, it seems to rotate the viewport rather than add a tube. would you be able tell me what the problem might be. cause, this is very frustrating as every time I try this, it seems to just rotate the viewport rather than add the tube. thanks! maybe theres a trick, or some button I need to click while doing this? I don't know. please let me know. thank again!!
Hmm, are you using path? If so lift the pencil off of the screen and place it back down to create the path. Also, is snap enabled? This will try to snap the tube to another mesh. You can also try just making two points, and adding a point on the path in the middle, then you can manipulate the points!
@@drugfreedave oh ok then. Thank you mate!! Actually planning on watching all your tutorials. They’re really great. I love your patience. And thanks again for the help. I tried it a different number of times, and I got it working. Thanks again Dave.

Hey Dave, love your videos!! While following the crash course, I realized that my brush radius level is not the same as yours. My values, when maxed out, are 137 pixel and 0.450 world. I have a 2015 iPad Pro12.9 in. Is it because I have a very old iPad performance?
Hi Dave, thanks for the tutorial. i just have some question regarding tube, when i try to make path then try to rotate it, it does not go close to the head
hi! i have a problem with the tube tool... i does let me do the tap and drag thing once, but i cannot add por points, when I try and do what you do i just change de perspective of the camera... if you come up with any idea of whats happening that would be great! thank you in advance :)
is it me or the b-spline part have changed in Nomad? it didn't work the way in the video for me. I have to make a long line and then points in the middle. Tap Tap also doesn't make it into mesh.
I've never sculpted on tablets. On Nomad Sculpt, I can use gestures instead of hotkeys on a keyboard? For changing brushes, moving, scaling? To not crack the flow of sculpting. Or do I need to use a keyboard anyway?

This shit is not nearly as simple as dude makes it look I’m ripping my hair out trying to get my shapes to move the way I want and to stop grouping on their own and it doesn’t help that the base layout for the app looks nothing like his.
Grouping on their own: if you add a shape, make sure it doesn’t default into an existing mirror. Drag it out of the mirror. This happens if you add a mesh but you currently have a mirrored layer selected. It “groups” with them. What do you mean you can’t get them to move the way you want? Like with the gizmo? And how does my nomad look different than yours? Is it because I changed the colors of my menu txt or the background? Are you using an iPad Pro or a phone? It seems like this sculpt may be a bit too advanced for you, I’d start with one of my more simple crash courses 👍🏾
I was literally able to sculpt my own character a day after watching your first tutorial. You are really good. Thanks for the tutorials.

How is yours so smooth? When i go to use the crease to make the eyes and mouth the crease is pixelated not smooth..
Try voxel remeshing the head at 200, that will allow for better detail. Also make sure you have smooth shading enabled for the head too!
What the app?
I have noticed this before, why is my radius so much smaller than yours at 12:25. I didn't size any of the objects, it's just default loading them.
Could just be since I always have mine bigger it stays at that larger size. Default may have been lower like yours when I started!
