I love your version of the design board. I love that Lori Holt came up with this idea but I didn’t want to cut up my fabric so I purchased binding from Walmart and hot glued it. I like the duct tape idea so much better as hot glue can be a pain and it’s much cheaper. Thanks!
With all the available colors and designs available for duct tape, this is a brilliant use for it to make the creation of a design board more manageable. Less time to create = more time to sew!
If you know any cross stitchers, they would love the mini design board you made in the video. We use them to hold lengths of thread when not in use on a project. Great tutorial!
I've been doing these for years using corrugated cardboard, White glue, and felt or batting scraps. I lightly spread the glue on the cardboard and press the felt/batting on it. I use a thicker glue along the edges so that the edges really stick. Let it dry and using a razor blade I cut along the edge and trim. I don't find that I need an edging border at all. Basically my expense is the white glue. Elmer's works well. I've have a large stack of them I've made through the years.
I really like the duct tape idea - so much easier than fabric and hot glue. I have an 18 X 24" cutting mat. I may look at duct taping a piece of batting on the back side, for a dual purpose board. Using the duct tape would ensure that the cutting mat would lay flat when using that side.
Thank you for such a perfectly simple way to make the boards! I had made some as gifts for Christmas using Lori’s method, which was a terrific idea, but your tweak to her idea made it fast and easy. I had wanted to make more of the boards but wasn’t looking forward to creating the fabric edging for it. Just completed 2 using your method in a very short period of time. Instead of spray basting, I used decoupage glue as I had it on hand and it worked perfectly fine. Thanks again!
I love your method - any new and good use for duct tape is ok by me! Thanks for this video - now I know I can actually make my own design board! Thank you!
Love the simplicity of this design board diy. I’ve made a few design boards using the lori method taught y Lori and FQS, but this is so quick! I will defined use this! Thanks so much. I can’t wait for more videos and tutorials!
I’ve just seen a 5m roll of white duck tape on Amazon and I think that’s cheaper than using 2.5” strips of my precious fabric, and will lie nice and flat instead of the join. Might try a mitred corner, just to see if it’s possible, so there aren’t any sticky bits at the corner edges
Hi! I think I got it at Joanns a couple years back. Yes-it is a transparent cutting mat. But it is not self healing so i use it as protector and some cutting. I wrapped the ya le under in fabric.
Great idea! I started to make the one using glue gun which I was dreading because got to be so careful with glue gun. Your idea was so simple and convenient. Thanks so much for sharing

This is my first time seeing this design board. Thanks I will be doing one.
Yay! Glad you found it helpful!
Soooo much easier than the hot glue and fabric!!! Thanks!!!

Love how much faster this is! I haven’t done well with the hot glue and this cuts out the hours of preparing the fabric! Well done!!!
yay! I am so glad you found it helpful! For real--I started doing it this way cause I was burning my hands with the hot glue!

Yes! I have made some with white glue and batting, without wrapping the board. They are working well and are so simple to do.
Love how simple and clean it is!! Thank you.

Fast and easy, but I prefer fabric, I do like the using basting spray to secure the batting down. Thanks for sharing that idea.

I like the idea of making tape it’s a whole lot easier
I made three boards today and so much easier than with fabric binding. Thanks for the video and inspiration.

Sooooo much quicker than using fabric! Great idea, thank you!
I like the handle!
Very simple instructions, thank you.
Duct tape makes good sense. Thank you. June
Love it! Can u make a book style one? Batting book with batting pages!? The one I see on the internet had 24 pages but no video.
What is the pretty cutting mat you are using?
If you use photo mounting boards they already have adhesive on one side...so much easier....do like the tape on edge

I just saw this tutorial. Did your mitered corner work out? I worried about the stickiness as well.
I have made these but used adhesive backed foam core board so saved the step from having to use the spray adhesive
Foam board at $1.00 stores now.
Excellent, where did you find your cutting mat? it's beautiful.
I was just wondering the same thing - would love to find one!!
I want to know also
I get mine at Walmart. Around a dollar for a 2'x2' sheet.
Hello friends! I got it at joanns. It is a transparent cutting mat but it is not self healing.
Love your idea better than the binding
Curious if I could use Washi tape, such fun colors and prints
I was talking about the transparency white cutting mat under your project.

I made one with hot glue gun, Going to try this way.
So many people making the same project videos.
O was talking about the one transparency

You can buy at a dollar store for $2.
Tried the duct tape. Felt so guilty because it was so much easier!
lol! I totally understand what you mean! Its a much easer way to spend more time on sewing instead of putting these together! Happy Sewing!
