We played a two player game last night and had the same initial impressions. Then it started taking off and it clicked. Same boomerang! I didn’t like that we, too, had warped boards. Did not like that after spending $70 ish. But we had a great time and I’m looking forward to a solo game tonight. Thanks for this video!
You’re welcome. It was a strange feeling to get underwhelmed at first, then bounce back. I can’t say I have that feeling often when playing board games. As you add in more content it gets better still!
Getting this game today and looking forward to playing. I also get quite annoyed with board warp/spinning. I now play with a cloth table cloth under my table, which helps a lot with this.
At 10:30. It's my understanding that population figures may only be placed on 'location' hex spaces. Or, as I think you called them 'cities'. I don't think that is clearly explained in the rules. I may have missed it, but I didn't see a legend, or anything, that listed, named, or described the different hex spaces. It is mentioned that buildings can only be built on a 'sand' hex space. Fortunately, it's easier to tell the sand hex spaces from the other types because they are brown. All the others are dark blue, green, gray. I think the hex space types are - CHASM (in the center), SAND, WATER, LOCATION (city?), TERRAIN (forest/mountain/field). I may have errors in what I mentioned above. If you so, please let me know. Also, thanks for sharing. I've only played 2 solo games, but I think I'm going to like this one.
I looked hard for this in the rules during my play but could not find it. I will need to post the question on BGG to see if I can clarify that they need to be on the location hex space. Thanks!
Yes, location hex spaces only. It's already been clarified on BGG. It's not obvious, but it is in the rules. Right at the top of Populate in BOLD it says choose a Location Space. And next to it, it graphically illustrates what large and small location spaces are. It would have been MUCH clearer if they has been called city or ruin spaces instead of the incredibly generic and easily confused 'location' spaces.
I see it now and yes, that was certainly unclear to me. I think I thought that a Location Space just meant any space that was not water. I appreciate the help!
Hi! I've been curious about this game for some time. It is quite expansive. As a solo game , would you say it is worth the money? Otherwise, I'm enjoying your reviews and videos in general. Thanks for focusing on playing solo 😊
I am enjoying it, but I would also say that it all depends how you value your solo play. In 5 games, you will have unlocked all of the content. If you like to explore a bunch of different factions and try different strategies, I think it is worth the money. I think there is replayability here for a while. However, you have to like the type of mechanics that are explored here. There are a lot of redone mechanics mashed into this game and not too much that is brand new. It’s always tough for me to make a recommendation based on not knowing what your collection holds, but I hope this helps.

I have never known an unhappy collector. Thank you for the content!
You bet!

I hope you enjoy it! I got several good plays out of it from a solo standpoint.
