Jackson State is on another level for me. Phenomenal!!! Always consistent. Very versatile as well. Book full of marches. In Storm and Sunshine Them Bases Stars and Stripes just to name a few. This is one band I always travel to see.

FAMU is going to be FAMU. No matter the song, you are gonna get the full orchestral sound. Their technique is what makes them sound clear as a bell. Other bands are good as well, just use a different technique.

I surely didn't, but it was nice hearing them play songs other than marches. I mean even FAMU own people all in the comments excited and talking about it. Everybody love FAMU sound, but as for song selections...yes, and they did that here! FAMU style of play is what makes them unique, and that's a beautiful thing. SWAC fans only gripe about FAMU is that we never really hear them playing up to date popular music at football games like SWAC bands. At least not on a consistent basis. That's it! You have to admit, selections like Marches, SOS, Say La La, and Ice Cream Man are staple songs for FAMU at football games, but after seeing them here, I'm super excited and look forward to seeing them. As far as marches go, SWAC bands play marches only during zero quarter during warm up exercises.

FAMU has a great sound similar to where they left off before the learning experience. Hopefully they can get their traditional size back and be the awesome program they are.
Your camera was too far to appreciate the quality of sound from both bands. Please get close to each band using two cameras to better represent these incredible bands or just focus on one if two cameras are not available. These hard-working bands deserve better.
FAMU off to a much better start than most expected, especially coming with almost all new music. Interested to hear how they grow around mid-season time.

@@bmslhs you can def hear the sections with JSU, but it is all just noise, they play as loud as they can all the time, it sounds nice on power pieces, buy when they play everything like that it begins to all sound the same because they focus on playing certain notes as loud as possible, so it does all sound the same, we can hear them, but just noise, no music, it's like they threw out everything a musician is taught to play loud with no tonal quality, I'm all for entertaining, but to leave the confines of music to settle for being powerful is a one sided band and they are no match to the '100 period, the '100 is literally a symphony at a football game period! Did JSU play any marches this game? I was part of their high school band camp two years ago and they said that marches were the foundation of a good marching band but I never see them play any marches or technical pieces. Great sound coming from The 100 this year though, glad to see them playing a large variety of songs.
You miss a lot of jsu games if you don't hear them play technical pieces are marches. I question if you went to jsu band camp if you never heard them play marches or technical pieces. Everyone who knows jsu knows they play technical pieces. Jsu just as well as any swac school plays marches before the game as warm ups. Although jsu has more technical pieces, I think this should give u enough to know that jsu has technical pieces and skills. Swac knows jsu has technical pieces.

You could hear Famu trumpets, but JSU trumpets have been a no show. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but I heard the boom live at the battle of the bands and on RUclips...
You got a bunch of crabs and semi-crabs in every band. Trumpets are going to take longer to catch on because they have more notes than lower brass on average.
Without Famu, there'd be no SWAC nor Show style band. We don't have to change anything for a conference. We set the standards for others to follow. Have fun blasting or whatever that is that y'all do over here in this conference...

I just realized some Famu fans replied inquiring about my opinion my bad for not noticing earlier. I seriously doubt that was JSU's whole book. Quite honestly, I think they played enough rounds for that battle. I didn't hear anything interesting or exciting (to me) from FAMU. Furthermore, they don't sound like much even with the camera being closer and their trumpets could benefit from some extra breathing practice/training. The trumpets were meh from the start but it became really obvious they wore out throughout the battle. Also, I hate long endings that are harmonically uninteresting 11:23 was a huge NO for me. All in all I only give FAMU 2 of 8 (maybe a debatable 3) rounds of the battle so I would call that a slight dub for JSU. If the battle was interesting it would be nice to see more but it wasn't. I think JSU took it easy on them by not cranking up on FAMU after they played a couple of duds (especially that Imagine Dragons, that was actual trash never bring that back to a swac 5th again the unison parts in the chorus brought no heat whatsoever and sloppy execution on the tonguing by those trumpets). All in all I don't think either band sucked overall it just wasn't much of a battle to listen to in comparison to what we are used to.
That "So Anxious" was not a good arrangement. JSU had the overall better selection, but thats to be expected, as FAMu is coming with a fairly new book. Love both bands.

@@TheCaleb0209 I would say power instead of loud. There are a lot of loud bands who sound a mess. JSU had more power and the arrangements were better. I agree that there were a few misses, but that's because the Boom takes chances that a lot of other bands don't. They'll get better as the year progresses.. I look at FAMU as a safe band, and that's not really a slight. It just makes it easier to have a better quality sound.

Both bands are just what I expected, BASIC!! jsu loud as usually, Famu some ol arrangement but Famu shock me with the imagine dragon song I'm a believer. Since there seems to be a nasty feud in the post, yall need to go check out Texas southern and Norfolk state bands, both have changed the dynamics and the arrangement, their sounds were clear both band's music styles have become diverse. For TSU to be such a small band they blew PVU out the stadium and into the back of the parking lot and PVU did not expect that one, so take note jsu and Famu.

Tsu got a new director, the sound isn't there yet . Anybody with ears can tell pvsmu won the battle. Folks get new arrangers, play 1 game and think they did a 180. Improvement, still needs a lot more work.

Did JSU play any marches this game? I was part of their high school band camp two years ago and they said that marches were the foundation of a good marching band but I never see them play any marches or technical pieces.

Although jsu has more technical pieces, I think this should give u enough to know that jsu has technical pieces and skills. Swac knows jsu has technical pieces.

You could hear Famu trumpets, but JSU trumpets have been a no show. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but I heard the boom live at the battle of the bands and on RUclips...
You got a bunch of crabs and semi-crabs in every band. Trumpets are going to take longer to catch on because they have more notes than lower brass on average.

I just realized some Famu fans replied inquiring about my opinion my bad for not noticing earlier. I seriously doubt that was JSU's whole book. Quite honestly, I think they played enough rounds for that battle. I didn't hear anything interesting or exciting (to me) from FAMU. Furthermore, they don't sound like much even with the camera being closer and their trumpets could benefit from some extra breathing practice/training. The trumpets were meh from the start but it became really obvious they wore out throughout the battle. Also, I hate long endings that are harmonically uninteresting 11:23 was a huge NO for me. All in all I only give FAMU 2 of 8 (maybe a debatable 3) rounds of the battle so I would call that a slight dub for JSU. If the battle was interesting it would be nice to see more but it wasn't. I think JSU took it easy on them by not cranking up on FAMU after they played a couple of duds (especially that Imagine Dragons, that was actual trash never bring that back to a swac 5th again the unison parts in the chorus brought no heat whatsoever and sloppy execution on the tonguing by those trumpets). All in all I don't think either band sucked overall it just wasn't much of a battle to listen to in comparison to what we are used to.

That "So Anxious" was not a good arrangement. JSU had the overall better selection, but thats to be expected, as FAMu is coming with a fairly new book. Love both bands.

I hate this stadium. The way the sound carries is not flattering to either band. That being said, FAMU was solid, but not enough to overcome the Boom.

I agree that there were a few misses, but that's because the Boom takes chances that a lot of other bands don't. They'll get better as the year progresses.. I look at FAMU as a safe band, and that's not really a slight. It just makes it easier to have a better quality sound.

Both bands are just what I expected, BASIC!! jsu loud as usually, Famu some ol arrangement but Famu shock me with the imagine dragon song I'm a believer. Since there seems to be a nasty feud in the post, yall need to go check out Texas southern and Norfolk state bands, both have changed the dynamics and the arrangement, their sounds were clear both band's music styles have become diverse. For TSU to be such a small band they blew PVU out the stadium and into the back of the parking lot and PVU did not expect that one, so take note jsu and Famu.
