I used to walk my dog there, many times we explored the hill fort years ago before we moved away from Andover. I even used to drive up the military tracks on weekends (ignored the signs -oh naughty) to park up nearer the hill fort sometimes too. There's a lot of old history around there, a lot of it relatively untouched. If you come off the military land towards Everleigh village (which also has some history too), you can get a delicious, awesome meal in the Goa Balti. Well worth a visit to eat in or collect a take away. You are almost making me wish we'd not left Andover now .....

Thank you for taking us along on your very enjoyable unscripted family day out! Unlike Danebury, from memory the top of the Hill Fort is fenced off, but for those interested, it's a shorter walk if you park in Eden Road (Gate 17), which is off the A338 north of Tidworth. Although you don't pass the burial mounds on the Old Marlborough Road, you won't be in danger of getting run over by a low flying Chinook using the Everleigh Drop Zone.
