I got my 2023 wrangler 392 about 4-5 months ago. Love it. I’ve always been a jeep guy. I was hoping they would do something special for this year also but they didn’t.
They should’ve in my opinion done more on the outside appearance to separate itself from the other line of jeeps. It’s so cool and right now with the raptor bronco selling for over 100k in its current market this is a steal for the value
I think they could offer a 5.7 model that would be priced far cheaper and still have exciting power, sound, and capability. It wouldn't have to be full time 4x4 to save the axles, it would probably get better mileage, run regular grade fuel, and still pull the larger tires. The 392 is cool for sure, but I'd be happy with the 5.7.
It's a really not great suspension, it's good for highway and that's about it. Look at his bumpstops.. stock it comes with 2inches before they hit lmao. And adding more bump, he just made it worse.

For $80k+, you'd think Jeep engineers would have added d60 axles or atleast a Dana 50 rear like the Bronco Raptor. D44s are too small to handle that much torque long term.
I was thinking about putting a 37 inch tire on my Xtreme recon. Have you tried to do any off-road in with full articulation to see if the 37 is still completely clear. Was there any noticeable fuel efficiency loss with the 37s over the stock 35
Don't wait if you want a factory V8 Wrangler. They have already stopped the XR (Extreme Recon package, 35" tires & 4.56 gears) for 2023 year models. But you can still order the regular 392 Rubicon, 33" tires with 3.73 gears. But not for long. Better decide soon or regret it for ever. Ganger is offering $6k under msrp, Koons is offering $8k under msrp if ordering.
Does the Recon Grappler pickup small stones like the stock tires do? I had Trail Grapplers on my JK and loved the wide tread spacing for this reason but my 392 stock tires are very bad at this. My rear fender flares have several rock chips from the tires throwing stones.
The Recons have very tread blocks and spacing. They don’t pack gravel nearly as badly as the BFGs. My dad has a gravel driveway. The difference between the two tires in terms of gravel packing is night and day.
I need to get different tires because the same thing is happening to my 392. Makes me cringe every time I hear a rock hit the fender. I’m hoping the RokBlokz mud flaps help.
The rear suspension is very soft. Even just putting my small electric dirt bike on my hitch carrier you will notice it will drop down a bit. It would have plenty of power to pull the trailer, but I would want either stiffer rear springs or helper air bags if I was going to tow frequently with it.
I love these 392s! But I’m hesitate because of the corrosion issue around the hinges. Anyone with a 392 notice this yet? So surprised nothing has been done to fix that problem
I have a friend with a JL that had a problem with his hinges that was covered under warranty. He’s the only one I know of. My 21 392 hasn’t had a problem, nor has my either of my Gladiators.
@@DrivingLine I have a wrangler 4xe sahara and you like to put 37s. What recommendations do you have? I'm a first time jeep owner and also i will not be doing any off road stuff, just like the look of the 37s better.
You’ll need around 3.5 inches of lift to properly clear and cycle a 37 on a Sahara. I would check out JKS Manufacturing. They make a nice kit that rides great on the highway.
To clear the 37s, 1-Do you still recommend to add the 2” bump stop modification to 392 final edition which will have additional 1/5” lift over the 392 Extream Recon . 2-Will I have any issues with the stock wheels after adding 37s? 3-Do you recommend adding steering stabilizer with 37s? Your opinion and thoughts will be a great help 🙏🏻
1- The marketing on the 392's suspension has always been confusing. The Final Edition has the same 2-inch lift springs they have been putting in there since 2021. So, yes. You will need the 2-inch rear bump stop landing pad. 2- No, the stock wheels will work fine. 3- No. You do not need a steering stabilizer. If you want the steering to feel better (lighter) purchase a set of adjustable lower control arms and get the front axle to around 6 degrees of positive caster. That will help.
Ali, great video, I watched your other 392 Video as well- great job, clear and concise. I know this thread is a year old but I did see you post some recent responses, so I thought I would give it a shot For my recently purchased 2024 392 FE in Earl, I just purchased 37 inch MT Baja Boss A/T's and gave my son the BFG 35's for his JKU. I have tried to raise the 3rd tailight, but cannot get the mount to move up or down. Hard to determine what I am not doing right now( I removed all 4 bolts- but nothing). Any guidance or reference would be greatly appreciated. Again great Job.
You just need to remove the four screws at the base of the light bracket. Then, slide it to where the original bottom hole of the third brake light bracket is now the top hole. So you’ll only have two holes being used. Hopefully that makes sense.
@@DrivingLine Ali- Thank you for the quick response, I appreciate it. I will try that again. I am trying not to remove my spare tire (heavy as heck). So I will try again. I did find a schematic that someone posted regarding a Jeep/ Mopar 3rd Brake Light relocation kit, which is helpful. Thanks Again-
When I ordered my 23, extreme recon was not an option. Its all good though, from most videos, looks as if XR drive rough?? Maybe using wrong term so I guess it's a good thing I didn't get it.
The only suspension differences from a non-XR and XR are the shocks. So, same coils. I've never driven a non-XR 392. So, I can't comment on how it feels versus the XR one. However, I can say that the XR does not ride rough. In fact, it's probably the smoothest riding stock Wrangler I've ever owned.
Thanks for the great, informative video. I have a 2024 392 and was wondering if I add a 37-inch tire do I need to add any extra hardware to the rear spare tire mount for it to accommodate the larger 37-inch spare? Thank you!
Car and driver tested an XR392 with the stock 35's and recorded a 4.0 0-60. I think a 4.5 is doable with 37s. You can test it with the Tazer, but I'm not sure how reliable that number is.
Been contemplating 37's on my 2023 392 xtreme recon. Will these tires do well in Northeast/mid-Atlantic weather? No off road here, mainly street/Hwy driving. Thank you for the video as always.
I believe so. I have a friend in the Northeast with the same tire under his JL and he’s been happy with them. We get a lot of rain here, but not much in the way of snow and ice.
Since a few months have passed, how are the 37's working with just the 2" bump spacer in the back ? Still no rubbing with the factory wheels on moderate trails ? Still happy with the upgrade ? Thanks
It's still working great. The main downfall of the 392's stock suspension is the limited suspension travel and the fact that it's undervalved for the weight of the engine. If you are just looking to run 37's, this is by far the easiest way to accomplish that goal. Here's a video of me testing this same setup on trail with my Sarge Green 392: ruclips.net/video/O84znbc0MZI/видео.html
@@tomdeskins3544 I would see if you can get a Fox 2.5 with DSC adjuster to work. I believe they offer a 0 to 1.5 lift shock, which would likely be what you would need to work with the stock springs.
@@DrivingLine Thank you for sharing your tech. I've watched all of your informative Jeep vids. Excellent data. The Fox 2.5 for 1.5" lift is the winner. OEM Recon front is 24.75"R 16.75"C,, Fox 2.5 is 25.50" and 15.87" so a little more droop. OEM Recon rear is 27.00"R 18.00"C ,, Fox is 26.60"R 16.43" C so just a tiny bit less droop. Should be a perfect setup for stock springs. Thanks !
The lift height is the same between the XR and Non-XR on the 392. The big difference in terms of 37s will be the tire relocation kit/tailgate reinforcement ,4.56 gears, and XR specific wheels that have a difference backspacing and width. So, you can run 37s with a non-XR, but you won't be able to run the spare without the relocation bracket. You will also need the 2-inch bump stops out back. The non-xr wheels will work if you go with a narrower 37 to keep them in spec. However, the backspacing might be an issue and could require you to purchase wheel spacers as well.
I wanted to get your thoughts on running the 37x12.5 on the 8” recon wheels. I’m looking at ko2s at that size but they say it needs an 8.5” wheel. I’m sure it would be fine but needed some reassurance. I’m doing the bumps in the back you recommend with the 37 ko2s and a teraflex 1.5” lift on my high tide.
It will work fine. It's a little out of spec, but you can just adjust the air pressure to ensure you have a good contact pattern. I like the Recon over the KO2 as it's a more true to size tire.
@@DrivingLine I appreciate the quick reply. That’s reassuring that they work just fine. Any psi you would recommend to start with. I ran my 35s at 34- 37 most of the time. And 10 on the dunes. If I had a 392 I would have probably made some different choices. But with the v6 I didn’t want to lose to much performance. Keeping the diameter down a bit and the ko2s have a load range c that saves me about 10 lbs a tire were what swayed me in that direction. Oh and I live in Michigan and the ko2s work great in the snow. You setup looks awesome with the nittos though. I might have regrets but let’s hope not. I’ve already got the tires waiting and I just received my rear axel spacers today so it’s almost go time.
I would start with 35 psi and move down from there. My experience with 37's with a load range D rating is I generally need to air them around 28 psi on a 17x9 to get a good patter and best ride quality. If I'm going to drive out of town, I tend to pump them up to 35. Given you are going load range C, you might benefit from a little more air pressure.
If your transfer case did not come with the 4Auto from the factory, it’s not a 3022. So, no you will not be able to add on that feature. The transfer cases are totally different.
Do you think that we still have a little chance that Jeep will do the Galdiator 392 ? If not many rumours mention a potential hurricane engine twin turbo up to 510 horsepower in the future new Gladiator do you think it will happen? If yes when?
I think the 392 Gladiator ship has sailed. My guess is we will see some impressive numbers from the new Hurricane engine, but it seems like it’s up in the air with which applications will get the high output versions.
I was wondering. Can you make jumps in this car? The reason why I'm asking : the RAM 1500 TRX can do it. As long as we have this 6,4 L V8 Hemi under the hood here and similar dynamics, this is definitely a vehicle to run on a fast trail right? And on a fast trail you can definitely expect some jumps here and there. I think this car can be a very good daily-driver, while also being very capable off-road, which is something I would like to have for my weekend trips.
I personally would never jump this vehicle in stock form. The TRX has a long-travel suspension meant for going fast in the desert. This does not. If you wanted to upgrade to a long-travel setup with coilovers and bypasses, that would be a different story.
@@DrivingLine Ah, thank you for the insight ! So the TRX is rather for fast trails, while the Jeep is rather to do the technical stuff, rock crawling, etc.
What’s your guys average oil temp you guys see regularly and also what’s the hottest any of you guys have seen? I’m coming from my JT Mojave and I noticed the 392 runs much hotter just curious
I saw your question earlier. I haven’t had a chance to look. The 392 is currently locked in by something else at the moment. I believe it was around 225 last I looked. I know it runs higher than the gladiator with a 3.6 L. Never so hot that I thought it was a problem, but it does run warmer for sure.
@@DrivingLine yeah I wasn’t really worried about it either my consistently runs at about 235/240 ish but I do have steel skid plates, 38 inch bead locks, and a steel front bumper with a winch so it’s heavier then stock. I also live at 5000 elevation and I’ve seen it climb to 260 oil temp but that’s going up hills it does cool right down pretty quick though.
I have a friend with one on 40s that told me he was a little concerned about his oil temps as well. I wheeled all summer with 38s. We have plenty of heat here, but we don’t have the elevation you do. I think these things just like to run on the warm side.
@@DrivingLine I agree because they’ll get up to some pretty questionable temps and then they seem to cool them selves off pretty fast. Thanks for getting back to me on that 👍 Love your channel
My experience has been nothing but positive. The 07 to 11 automatics and manuals had some issues. The 8spd in the 392 is different from the standard Wrangler.
Bronco supposedly has better on road manners but in no way offers more performance. The 392 is an entirely different league performance wise on compared to the Bronco Raptor. It isn't even close. 392 is nearly 2 secs faster 0 to 60 and runs mid 12s 1/4 mile. Bronco Raptor is at 15 secs. Jeeps 4XE is faster than the Bronco Raptor.
80 yards ahead of Braptor in quarter mile. Facts! Stop comparing Rubicon 392 to Braptor. It's not even fair. 6.4L V8 392, Make America V8 again. Since 1941.

Thanks !
Do you need the extreme recon package for 37???
Given you are going load range C, you might benefit from a little more air pressure.
i have an 18 jlu. i'f the Tazer puts the 392 into 2WD will the tazer put my jeep into 4 wheel auto????
How tall is it with 37’s at the highest spot? I need to know if it will fit in my garage door. Love this video and great job! OlllllllO
36 1/2 inches tall. This still fits under a 7ft garage door without issue.
@@DrivingLine I was wanting to know how tall the vehicle is overall to the tallest point. (Ex. The highest point of the hard top?)
@@MrSilentarcher ah, I misread. It’s a touch over 75 inches.
Nice vid and a simple fast breakdown. Would 38's fit with that same 2" rear bumpstop swap? Cheers from Denver Colorado!
It’s pretty tight wit the 37’s. I haven’t tested it, but my guess is a true-to-size 38 would rub.
I have Nitto 38s on mine. I had to go to 2.5"" in rear and add 1/2" to front also to keep from rubbing.
Can it be flat tow?
yes it can.

My condo doesn't cost that much...😁
Miles pwr gallon?
It’s averaging 14.
👍
The only Jeep I want is a Hemi powered Gladiator;(
There are a few companies doing those swaps! It would be awesome if Jeep offered it, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
Not a Jeep...a pickup truck that looks like one
@@robertallen6710 yes, a Jeep body on a Ram 2500 Powerwagon, what the Gladiator was and should be;)
I heard transmission on this new jeeps are junk !
My experience has been nothing but positive. The 07 to 11 automatics and manuals had some issues. The 8spd in the 392 is different from the standard Wrangler.
Jeep is really missing out on sales the bronco is kicking its butt in performance
You think so? Interesting. I don’t see many Broncos in my area. In terms of performance, the 392 has a significantly faster 0 to 60.
In Texas the dealers want anywhere from $20k to $50k over MSRP for the Bronco Raptor, I would rather have the 392
Bronco supposedly has better on road manners but in no way offers more performance.
Don't think so....🤣
80 yards ahead of Braptor in quarter mile. Facts! Stop comparing Rubicon 392 to Braptor. It's not even fair. 6.4L V8 392, Make America V8 again. Since 1941.
Awesome video. Been wondering about the changes for 23. Looks like if anything, 22's would technically be a bit better.
