Used for YHWH (the full name being too sacred for utterance) in four places in the Old Testament in the KJV where the usual translation the lord would have been inconvenient; taken as the principal and personal name of God. Jehovist (n.) 1844 as the name given by scholars to the presumed author or authors of the parts of the Hexateuch in which the divine name is written Yhwh (see Jehovah) + -ist. Opposed to the Elohist. Sometimes Jahvist is used. Related: Jehovistic. Yahweh 1869, hypothetical reconstruction of the tetragrammaton YHWH (see Jehovah), based on the assumption that the tetragrammaton is the imperfective of Hebrew verb hawah, earlier form of hayah "was," in the sense of "the one who is, the existing." Jah (n.) 1530s, a form of Hebrew Yah, short for Yahweh "Jehovah" (see Yahweh; also see J). Used in some English bibles. Cognate with the second element in hallelujah and in Elijah. Matthew masc. proper name, introduced in England by the Normans, from Old French Mathieu, from Late Latin Matthaeus, from Greek Matthaios, contraction of Mattathias, from Hebrew Mattathyah "gift of Jehovah," from mattath "gift." Variant Matthias is from the Greek version. hallelujah also halleluiah, 1530s, from Late Latin hallelujah, alleluia, from Greek allelouia, from Hebrew hallalu-yah "praise ye Jehovah," from hallalu, plural imperative of hallel "to praise" also "song of praise," from hillel "he praised," of imitative origin, with primary sense being "to trill." Second element is yah, shortened form of Yahweh, name of God. Earlier English form alleluia (12c.) is from Old French alleluie. tetragrammaton (n.) c. 1400, from Greek (to) tetragrammaton "(the word) of four letters," from tetra- "four" (from PIE root *kwetwer- "four") + gramma (genitive grammatos) "letter, something written" (see -gram). The Hebrew divine name, transliterated as YHWH, usually vocalized in English as "Jehovah" or "Yahweh." Jeremiah masc. proper name, Old Testament prophet (compare jeremiad) who flourished c. 626-586 B.C.E., from Late Latin Jeremias, from Hebrew Yirmeyah, probably literally "may Jehovah exalt," but Klein suggests it also might be short for Yirmeyahu "the Lord casts, the Lord founds," and compares the first element in Jerusalem. The vernacular form in English was Jeremy. Baal late 14c., Biblical, from Late Latin Baal, Greek Baal, from Hebrew Ba'al, literally "owner, master, lord," a title applied to any deity (including Jehovah; see Hosea ii.16), but later a name of a particular Semitic solar deity worshipped licentiously by the Phoenecians and Carthaginians; from ba'al "he took possession of," also "he married;" related to or derived from the Akkadian god-name Belu (source of Hebrew Bel), name of Marduk. Identical with the first element in Beelzebub and the second in Hannibal ("grace of Baal"), Hasdrubal ("help of Baal"). The name has been used figuratively in English for any "false god." about (adv., prep.) Middle English aboute, from Old English abutan (adv., prep.), earlier onbutan "on the outside of; around the circumference of, enveloping; in the vicinity of, near; hither and thither, from place to place," also "with a rotating or spinning motion," in late Old English "near in time, number, degree, etc., approximately;" a compound or contraction of on (see on; also see a- (1)) + be "by" (see by) + utan "outside," from ut (see out (adv.)). The vowel substitution was originally made by the Masoretes as a direction to substitute Adhonai for "the ineffable name." European students of Hebrew took this literally, which yielded Latin JeHoVa (first attested in writings of Galatinus, confessor to Leo X, 1516). Jehovah's Witnesses "member of Watchtower Bible and Tract Society" first attested 1933; the organization founded c. 1879 by Charles Taze Russell (1852-1916); the name from Isaiah xliii.10. (I am; the eternal living one). The Scripture appellation of the supreme Being, usually interpreted as signifying self-derived and permanent existence. The Jews scrupulously avoided every mention of this name of God, substituting in its stead, one or other of the words with whose proper vowel-points it may happen to be written. This custom, which had its origin in reverence, was founded upon an erroneous rendering of Lev 24:16 from which it was inferred that the mere utterance of the name constituted a capital offence. According to Jewish tradition, it was pronounced, but once a year, by the high priest on the Day of Atonement when he entered the Holy of Holies; but on this point, there is some doubt. When Moses received his commission to be the deliverer of Israel, the Almighty, who appeared in the burning bush, communicated to him, the name which he should give as the credentials of his mission: "And God said unto Moses, "I AM THAT I AM (ehyea asher ehyeh); and he said, 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.' " That this passage is intended to indicate the etymology of Jehovah, as understood by the Hebrews, no one has ventured to doubt. While Elohim exhibits God displayed in his power as the creator and governor of the physical universe, the name Jehovah designates his nature as he stands in relation to man, as the only almighty, true, personal, holy Being, a spirit and "the father of spirits," Num 16:22, compare Joh 4:24, who revealed himself to his people, made a covenant with them, and became their lawgiver, and to whom all honor and worship are due.

It is not for Allah to take a son! Glory be to Him. When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is! (Qur'an 19:35) (Jesus also declared), “Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (alone). This is the Straight Path.” (Qur'an 19:36) Yet their (various) groups have differed among themselves (about him), so woe to the disbelievers when they face a tremendous Day! (Qur'an 19:37) How clearly will they hear and see on the Day they will come to Us! But today the wrongdoers are clearly astray. (Qur'an 19:38) And warn them (O Prophet) of the Day of Regret, when all matters will be settled, while they are (engrossed) in heedlessness and disbelief. (Qur'an 19:39) Indeed, it is We Who will succeed the earth and whoever is on it. And to Us they will (all) be returned. (Qur'an 19:40)
@@mohammadabrar6006 John 10:34-38 Authorized (King James) Version 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
Before He created the cosmos, God knew all that would happen up to this point, and all that will happen after. Everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen is according to His will.
Amen. How exciting because it means the unspeakable evils that happened and continue to happen for now, are all WORTH the joy that will follow. He would not allow them otherwise, because in Him is no darkness at all. The darker the days are, the more wonderful and glorious must be the end of them. We are seated in heavenly places!
In 4:52-5:52, you touched on a very sore spot for me in my walk with Jesus. Describing how in the American/Protestant church, the message is, "You're horrible, evil, and you need Jesus." I've been inundated in that narrative for probably a decade or more, and hearing you guys say that that's not there narrative the Bible is giving is simultaneously setting off red flags that this is going to be a heretical podcast episode, but also giving me a glimmer of hope that maybe you'll say something that will deconstruct this theology that has led me to hating myself and feeling hopeless for the last decade. "Why hopeless if Jesus is your hope?" one may ask. Because, in the American/Protestant church, in Revelation and Daniel and anything in the Bible concerning End Times, everything is supposed to get hopelessly bad until God destroys it all and creates everything from scratch, and only the few _real_ believers (and there seems to be a conserted effort to make every little thing a qualification for whether or not you're _really_ saved in the American/Protestent church) will be with Jesus to rule and reign with Him. Well, I've been on the opposite end of the qualifiers for why I'm not _really_ saved because I'm more horrible than I can ever truly understand, and no amount of surrendering my life to Christ has changed that, so as long as I'm alive and as long as the world exists, there's no hope... Until I'm dead. _That's_ what I learned through American/Protestant Christianity. So when you say that they're wrong, I'm highly skeptical, because they train you to think that anyone that disagrees with them is questioning the very Word of God and therefore is Satanic, but man, do I hope you're right, for I might not be miserable for the rest of my time on Earth if you are right... Otherwise I'll keep baring my misery til I stand before God in judgment and hopefully, I was actually saved at some point and my failures don't point to the idea that I was never saved to begin with. 6:27 - 7:22 describes that very well too. Thank God that He's putting up with me. Thank God He isn't just sending me to Hell right now, because that's what I really deserve to be, so any hardship or horror you go through is Grace by comparison.
I pray your pain and suffering can be lessened and may you know you are loved by Jesus and by God. I recommend reading "Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived" by Rob Bell to understand how much God loves you! You are not alone and I will remember to pray for you and the tough time you are going through as often as God reminds me
This is a longish comment and I'm sorry in advance, but I wish someone had helped to reassure me sooner in my life. You cannot go unanswered in your grief. Your pain represents everything that Jesus came to undo. 'To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Qualifiers for salvation are man-added either for the purpose of self-exaltation, or out of fear. The work that God asks from us for salvation is to believe on the One he has sent. Jesus said He is the resurrection, and the life, and whoever believes in Him, though dead, shall live - and whoever lives and believes in Him shall never die. Do you believe this? I believe it! And I want it! You want it too, and I feel your pain in the fear of missing it. I want to comfort you as I have been comforted by other believers and by God's word. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. Thank God! It IS good news, it really, really is. His yoke is easy and his burden is light - he did not lie. He had many harsh lessons and warnings of woe for scribes and pharisees BECAUSE they shut up the kingdom of heaven against men, not entering themselves and not allowing others to enter. "Let the little children come to me" - He is full of compassion and mercy towards you, and opened the door for all who will enter. He is the way, the truth, and the life. May the Father of mercies and God of all comfort convict us all of the truth of his Word. "And when he (the Comforter) is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged." The conviction of sin is because they believe not. For those who believe, there is no condemnation in Christ. We're still in the flesh for now, and do suffer with sin, but it's HIM who will heal us and has already overcome it. Come to him as a child and enter the kingdom of heaven - trusting and hopeful. You already believe you need Him and you believe what He did and who He is, and I am confident he has given you life already, but the Word has been twisted in the mouths of self-righteous people for a long, long time and will continue to be. Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it. As you read God's word throughout your life I pray for you, and I, and all else who want it, that God will make us able to understand what is being said, and who to, and what it means for us. I pray that we will perceive his love, and may we hold tightly to the faith, and receive bread and water from Him, and not from thieves and liars. God bless you. I spent a long time in a similar position to you and my heart goes out to you. I hope this is helpful in some way
This is really sad to me. I also know exactly what you're feeling. What these 2 stumble upon here are kernels of truth. It begins with not taking things like the Westminster Confession as some sort of Holy Scripture and it ends with Orthodox Christianity. The Orthodox Church is the only faith that believes that humans, by nature, are good, as all good comes from God. All of God's creation is good. It says that in the Bible. You are also correct about never knowing if you are saved or not. The only way Protestantism makes logical sense is if you have an elect that are saved and everyone else is not. Here I give credit to the Calvinists. As deluded as they are, they are logically consistent with Protestant teaching. Anyways. Think about searching outside of your sad little American bubble. I did. Eastern Orthodoxy is an entirely different religion from how we were brought up. It is Satan's work in the world that has allowed it to be come corrupted this much. I do give credit to the Bible Project for exploring these boundaries and asking Protestants to actually read scripture and actually think about what they are reading. Their conclusions come much closer to the truth than other people I have found.
Wow I love this thank you so much for taking the time to do this series! please continue it throughout the Bible. Sharing your knowledge and understanding has really helped me see and understand God‘s word more clearly from what it really is saying. This conversation helped me break off the same falsities I had about the stories that you guys talked about
Like so much people who watch your videos and listen to your podcasts, I really like your work, Tim and John. It's a great job. God teaches me and a lot of persons around the world by an amazing way through your work, and that's 😱. You understand😅🤠 I have learned a lot with you, and I am thankful with God because He has choose you to help people understand the Scriptures. I am from Costa Rica. I speak Spanish, but I also speak English very well, thanks God. One day, God has put a desire in my heart. I want to serve him. One day, I told him: Lord, I want to serve You. I want You to give me the chance to serve You. He listened to me. A few weeks ago, I tought that there are more resources in English than in any other language. I am able to translate. Actually, I prefer to watch your videos in English. So, I said: What would happen if I help to translate videos and podcasts and anything else? So I thought that ir would be a good idea to write You. I don't know if you are going to see this, but, if you do, you know I would be glad to help you with that. Blessings and my best wishes for you.
In minute 37:20 we do know because Satan had already sin in the heavens way before man was created. God knew where he was and gave man a chance to chose or reason .
Funny thing is. I think it is correct to think that before the slain of Abel the earth was not yet defiled and it is not until cain kills his brother when GOD says the Earth is crying out unto me with the blood of Abel. So yeah I think you guys got it right about why we have earthquakes because the earth has been defiled and cracked open with the blood of the innocent from sin and evil of humankind.
The tree of life is right there.... they weren't told not to eat from that.... so why choose the other tree... the only one the were not supposed to eat from ....Knowledge....not just knowledge.... but knowledge of good and evil....
Sometimes, I struggle with your idea that we can, almost, “save this world from the flames”. .. but, Judgment has already been past. .. It’s almost like you are saying, that because God has done such a wonderful job on His creation, we can pull it back from the brink?…. What has happened cannot be repaired, Those who are followers of Christ teachings, are “New”, not repaired creations. But our bodies cannot be saved. The physical flesh image has to die. We battle with it daily. .. Perfection/maturity/completeness, only happens after death….. Christ’s life, death and resurrection was and is an absolute necessity . .. .. To offer any other hope is folly and a pipe dream. …
Great episode! on RUclips could you take the thing down vibrates on the screen when you speak it gives me a headache, a still picture would be better, many thanks for a great episode
Amazing work as usual! And I have a request. recently I’ve been listening the God podcast serie and I didn’t understand very well the fact that when apostles said Jesus is lord it’s their way to say he’s God
This question may be answered in the video, I just got it and haven't watched yet but I didn't want to forget it. What does humans being made in the image of God mean for us when we aren't acting idk "Godly" for lack of a better adjective? Like is it strictly our physical appearance that is in the likeness of God or is it also how we act and behave; and if so what does that mean when we aren't good or when people act outright bad or evil to one another? Is that still showing aspects of God or is that just humans polluting the image through our own wrong action?
I heard in a church this sunday- "men and woman cant be friends" (when the topic was love) but not like the topic matters; but a church making such a cut and dry statement... any christians wanna give me an arguement against such a statement?
I think men and women can be friends...but there is way too much temptation if you get close to each other...if you find yourself getting close, you might as well date but make a pact not to be alone together in person. Most of the time when I tried to be just friends with a guy, we always ended up not being able to hang out bc of the temptation factor. I'm weak, in my sinful nature, as are most people, so I have to remove myself from the temptation. I mean, I can't go to a party where they're smoking pot and doin coke bc I'll probably screw up there too, so... It's just something that I told God I wouldn't do, in honor to Him. Even if messed up tho, I'd still be His child, I'd just have to confess and try some more and remove myself from temptation. The enemy hates it tho so he Always tries me. When I make the commitment, to God, to try again, my friend calls with a blunt or my ex fwb calls. I always have to decline the invites bc that's the only way to make sure that I stay true to FATHER...
My main disagreement is something like, if a 20 year old and a 75 year old are friends; it would be a hard push to say there is sexual tension between them. So saying "men and woman cant be friends" is simply too vague/general to be true.
@@nigelboisclair3553 lol at lawnchair when confronted. So relatable I don't have a clear answer either except by personal experiences that temptation is best avoided in order to avoid harm. I think we CAN be friends but it seems like there's usually this kind of magnetic tension, like the difference between positive and negative poles, between male and female above reproductive age! It might be one-sided at times but rarely absent. Maybe as the age difference widens it lessens, buuut I wouldn't even be sure about that... Plenty of stories out there 😆 So mainly, since the most important law is 'love', I just try to be careful out of love for my brothers and sisters, not to get too close when something suggests it's necessary to guard myself or them from potential harm.
Could knowledge of good and evil come with the moral responsibility of good and evil. I’m just typing out my thoughts but it seems there is a relationship with knowledge and responsibility. So human didn’t just take the ability to define good and evil for themselves but also the credit for good and evil. Human were naked they took the knowledge and decided naked was bad and felt responsible for the bad and felt shame and hid from God. Could it be that good and evil are not only God’s to define but also his responsibility which is why he saved us all from the burden of being responsible for good and evil. The closer I draw to God the more is revealed and it seems like God has been doing everything and had this plan since he first separated light from dark and began creation. So all the credit is his and this self judgement of peoples flaws somehow being bigger than God is incredibly self centered and demeaning of God. That would be the same as saying sin is bigger than God which could never be true. Beating yourself up and saying your so different that God can’t save you is nearly the same as not believing you need to be saved because it’s all revolving around you and what you can do under your own power
We’re still hopeless under our own power so I think it’s important we do know how hopeless we are without God. it’s the reason why we can more fully appreciate this gift we never deserved even before Eve spoke to the snake. We have never earned it, could never earn it, and will always be fully reliant on God to live. This podcast mentioned before a parent child relationship and how the garden was infant stage and now we’re in our 30s calling our parents to ask how to do something and apologizing for how we perceived their love and care when we were 13. Finally relating to one another as people navigating life instead of an idea of parents except it’s God but the point is there’s a new level of love and respect and deep appreciation that we didn’t have access to in the garden.
16:57 "...he never used... or picked up on the image of God the way that Paul does." With the divinity of Jesus, can we rightly say he didn't pick up on something at least as much as one of his apostles? So would it probably just be the first of those two?
Ok yeah, this is what I'm talking about - are there 2 different gospels?? I definitely grew up with the version that he keeps saying is not what the bible is talking about. Or is it more like 2 different versions of what people interpret the bible's story to be and we're all still Christians? Am I getting the gospel mixed up with the story of the bible? These are the thoughts that swirl through my mind every day. Why does it just sound so different?
36:04 Wait...I'm confused. In Genesis 2:1 after the days of creation, most bible translations use the word completed (or finished) Doesn't that mean that the Hebrew translation of the bible mentions creation as perfect as well🤔
*PSALMS OF THE DAY* O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. I love the intellectualism and curiosity you guys bring to Christian mythology for lack of a better word. However this is the first episode that along with Jon, have some significant discomfort with some of the phrasing and ideas. 1. When saying that Jesus did not pick up/focus on humanity being God’s image bearers, I can accept that Jesus voluntarily chose to have his knowledge limited & what he did receive it was perfectly discerned from the Father. It would have read better if you stated that Paul received further revelation after the road to Damascus. 2. The absence of numerology mention with the 7 days of creation. 3. More clear language surrounding what having the knowledge of good and evil entails and maybe a theory of how it was meant to be bestowed
I don’t understand how you came up with the idea that ALL humans were supposed to be representatives of God on earth… that’s assuming that the narrative is about all humanity. In my opinion, Genesis is about a couple chosen by God to be his representative and placed in his garden. Placing them apart of the rest of the world to represent him. The story focus on them cause they were the chosen ones… they probably were other humans in the story not even mentioned (Cain after murdering Abel was probably afraid of them).’’ But the Bible always has been about elected ones and the others. First there was a couple and the thing is, God decided to grow the family. The family became a tribe, Israel, that became a nation and with Jesus, finally to those who chose to follow him, the believers from all around the world. Not the entire world cause those who are not born again are not part of the covenant, they can be if they repent but there are not part of the plan. Believers are the image of God, the light of the world. Not the entire humanity.
Can you link Part 1 please? The only video that comes up is 6:17, titled “Image of God”, & was uploaded 6 years ago. I don’t if it’s actually the correct video or not.
Humans make images of their gods and those are false idols. Then humans pray to the idols to perform miracles for them. God created humans as His idols. So shouldn't we just assume God is praying for us to perform miracles for Him?
Uh…no. God is God. He needs nothing. When Tim says humans are idols, he isn’t saying they take the role of God as if God needed humans to do things. The role we carry is that of representing God. Now if we represent God and God is God, then why would God need to pray to a mere representative of who he already is? God’s purpose for humans is to reflect his glory, not to pray to humans.
2:40 How can humans be lower than elohim, if Psalm 82 says we are all elohim? When Jesus was accused of being God in John 10 he rebuked them with this very scripture saying, aren't we ALL gods? Then he corrected them in stating he isn't God, but he is the son of God. Pay closer attention to scripture guys. The truth is in there 😁
First, try humility. Second, study "elohim" a little more. Third, study the word "made" and its conjugation in psalm 8's context. This is not the word, "created", it is the word "diminished". God moved man from above the angels to beneath the angels. Not as punishment, but for protection. It's the same verb, including it's conjugation, sequential imperfect, as the word used in Genesis when the flood waters "abated" It all makes sense with these understandings. Blessings
@@gtdadof10 You people think you have to have a 200 IQ to understand the word of God or something and it's quite laughable. Jesus said you need to have the faith of a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. Not a master's degree in theology and the ability to speak at least three languages. Get over yourself with this crap where you to to redefine words to make it say something it doesn't say at all. Keep it SIMPLE.
@@HearGodsWord The word of God is very simple and easy to understand and read. Jesus picked fisherman to be his disciples for a reason. Not scribes and pharisees. You know there's people just like this all over the place who will say things like, the word firstborn doesn't mean the 'first one born' when that's exactly what that word means. It blows my mind how people can think the word of God is anything but simple and easy to understand. Paul even wrote this. It's biblical and in scripture that you don't have to be a genius to figure it out. Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things. 2 Corinthians 11:6 ESV He has made this plain to you, in all things. So when the Bible says something like it's a disgrace for women to speak in church and they must be silent, it means exactly what it says. Just do it and follow it. There's no need for long winded debates about what context he was trying to say or if they were just noisy or any such nonsense. Just follow what the book says. Have the faith of a child. Lay your hands on the dead, and they will be raised. God bless.
(Qur'an 19:40)
What's Hebrew Cosmology? The sun, moon, and stars revolve around the earth and that the sky is held up by 4 pillars and that the earth is flat? Fellow believers believing things that are objectively and verifiably false are the reason I'm often embarrassed to say I'm a Christian.

I love this page so much, God bless you both in the name of Jesus amen
We know that God can see the future, so when we were made in their image, we truly have God's physical shape as well in Jesus Christ.
Mind absolutely blown. This video is incredible.
I dare not even imagine a world of endless knowledge and eternal life, while missing wisdom..

Being made in the image of God gives us intrinsic value so that we should not mistreat each other.
Brilliant, thank you - The Bible Project is a huge help especially understanding the Prophets.
Romans 8:29 because those whom God [Our Father JEHOVAH] gave his first recognition he also foreordained to be patterned after the image of .. HIS.. SON, so that Jesus might be the FIRSTBORN among many.. BROTHERS.

Etymology of Jehovah
Jehovah
1530, Tyndale's transliteration of Hebrew Tetragrammaton YHWH using vowel points of Adhonai "my lord" (see Yahweh). Used for YHWH (the full name being too sacred for utterance) in four places in the Old Testament in the KJV where the usual translation the lord would have been inconvenient; taken as the principal and personal name of God.
Jehovist (n.)
1844 as the name given by scholars to the presumed author or authors of the parts of the Hexateuch in which the divine name is written Yhwh (see Jehovah) + -ist. Opposed to the Elohist. Sometimes Jahvist is used. Related: Jehovistic.
Yahweh
1869, hypothetical reconstruction of the tetragrammaton YHWH (see Jehovah), based on the assumption that the tetragrammaton is the imperfective of Hebrew verb hawah, earlier form of hayah "was," in the sense of "the one who is, the existing."
Jah (n.)
1530s, a form of Hebrew Yah, short for Yahweh "Jehovah" (see Yahweh; also see J). Used in some English bibles. Cognate with the second element in hallelujah and in Elijah.
Matthew
masc. proper name, introduced in England by the Normans, from Old French Mathieu, from Late Latin Matthaeus, from Greek Matthaios, contraction of Mattathias, from Hebrew Mattathyah "gift of Jehovah," from mattath "gift." Variant Matthias is from the Greek version.
hallelujah
also halleluiah, 1530s, from Late Latin hallelujah, alleluia, from Greek allelouia, from Hebrew hallalu-yah "praise ye Jehovah," from hallalu, plural imperative of hallel "to praise" also "song of praise," from hillel "he praised," of imitative origin, with primary sense being "to trill." Second element is yah, shortened form of Yahweh, name of God. Earlier English form alleluia (12c.) is from Old French alleluie.
tetragrammaton (n.)
c. 1400, from Greek (to) tetragrammaton "(the word) of four letters," from tetra- "four" (from PIE root *kwetwer- "four") + gramma (genitive grammatos) "letter, something written" (see -gram). The Hebrew divine name, transliterated as YHWH, usually vocalized in English as "Jehovah" or "Yahweh."
Jeremiah
masc. proper name, Old Testament prophet (compare jeremiad) who flourished c.
Baal
late 14c., Biblical, from Late Latin Baal, Greek Baal, from Hebrew Ba'al, literally "owner, master, lord," a title applied to any deity (including Jehovah; see Hosea ii.16), but later a name of a particular Semitic solar deity worshipped licentiously by the Phoenecians and Carthaginians; from ba'al "he took possession of," also "he married;" related to or derived from the Akkadian god-name Belu (source of Hebrew Bel), name of Marduk. Identical with the first element in Beelzebub and the second in Hannibal ("grace of Baal"), Hasdrubal ("help of Baal"). The name has been used figuratively in English for any "false god."
about (adv., prep.)
Middle English aboute, from Old English abutan (adv., prep.), earlier onbutan "on the outside of; around the circumference of, enveloping; in the vicinity of, near; hither and thither, from place to place," also "with a rotating or spinning motion," in late Old English "near in time, number, degree, etc., approximately;" a compound or contraction of on (see on; also see a- (1)) + be "by" (see by) + utan "outside," from ut (see out (adv.)).

Jehovah
Jeho'vah.

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
help us Lord to actually be your images and not what we think we ought to be or what the world tells us to be
Before He created the cosmos, God knew all that would happen up to this point, and all that will happen after.
Thank you for the rabbit hole. Loved it ❤
I like when these guys talk real life
In 4:52-5:52, you touched on a very sore spot for me in my walk with Jesus.
I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Qualifiers for salvation are man-added either for the purpose of self-exaltation, or out of fear.
"And when he (the Comforter) is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Of sin, because they believe not on me;
Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged."
The conviction of sin is because they believe not.
Thank you for this
Could you do a series on Jesus' parables and sayings? E.g. Matthew 11:28, the prodigal son, the mustard seed etc
Cry out to God Jesus is coming soon 🔜🔜🔜🔜🔜 repentttttt.
podcast should be renamed 'The 2 Timothy 4 podcast'
Hi Jon and Tim! Blessings from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic! I really loved this episode.
In minute 37:20 we do know because Satan had already sin in the heavens way before man was created. God knew where he was and gave man a chance to chose or reason .
Nice. Thanks 🙏
I thought I knew the answers, but after listening to this I just have more questions 😮
🙏🏿
I would love it if you'd add the video of you talking. It just adds interest. Thanks.
The tree of life is right there.... they weren't told not to eat from that.... so why choose the other tree... the only one the were not supposed to eat from ....Knowledge....not just knowledge.... but knowledge of good and evil....
You should share this w joe Rogan and Jamie and Jordan Peterson and Andrew haberman
That's a great idea Nicole! I wish I had Twitter so I could @ them with it. Shalom Shalom sister! ^.^

I disagreed but folded like a lawn chair when confronted
But I think as acquaintances who hang out with others at the same time, maybe. But not if getting close, like I said...
So relatable
I don't have a clear answer either except by personal experiences that temptation is best avoided in order to avoid harm. Plenty of stories out there 😆
So mainly, since the most important law is 'love', I just try to be careful out of love for my brothers and sisters, not to get too close when something suggests it's necessary to guard myself or them from potential harm.
I love the intro/outro music. Is there a way to download it? It’s incredibly soothing.

@@michaelboulos3272 THANK YOU!
16:57 "...he never used... or picked up on the image of God the way that Paul does."
With the divinity of Jesus, can we rightly say he didn't pick up on something at least as much as one of his apostles? So would it probably just be the first of those two?
Ok yeah, this is what I'm talking about - are there 2 different gospels?? I definitely grew up with the version that he keeps saying is not what the bible is talking about. Or is it more like 2 different versions of what people interpret the bible's story to be and we're all still Christians? Am I getting the gospel mixed up with the story of the bible? These are the thoughts that swirl through my mind every day. Why does it just sound so different?
34:00 I see your points guys good talk
Unsubscribing... they are heretical! I pray they repent and stop their blasphemous deceptions!
36:04 Wait...I'm confused. In Genesis 2:1 after the days of creation, most bible translations use the word completed (or finished) Doesn't that mean that the Hebrew translation of the bible mentions creation as perfect as well🤔
Any chance you happen to have any videos exploring and exploring Isaiah 58?
*PSALMS OF THE DAY*
O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen-- Even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! *PSALMS 8*

Revelation 3: 11 I AM COMING QUICKLY (..) 12 “‘The one who conquers-I will make him a pillar in THE TEMPLE OF... - - MY GOD (JEHOVAH), and he will by no means go out from it anymore, and I will write upon him THE NAME OF.... - MY GOD (JEHOVAH) and the name of THE CITY OF MY GOD, the New Jerusalem that descends out of heaven FROM MY GOD, and my own new name. 13 Let the one who has an ear hear what the spirit says to the congregations.’
It’s titled as “ Humans as Middle Management. If you go to their channel home page it should be there.
No sound?
I can hear it. Hopefully you were able to find out what the issue is

It's the same verb, including it's conjugation, sequential imperfect, as the word used in Genesis when the flood waters "abated"
It all makes sense with these understandings.
Blessings
Oops ,Reborn didn't pay as much attention to scripture as the Bible Project guys!
2 Corinthians 11:6 ESV
He has made this plain to you, in all things. God bless.
@Reborn as David that's a lot of words that doesn't really say a lot or prove anything. Nice projecting there.
It is not for Allah to take a son! Glory be to Him. When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is! (Qur'an 19:35)
(Jesus also declared), “Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (alone). This is the Straight Path.” (Qur'an 19:36)
Yet their (various) groups have differed among themselves (about him), so woe to the disbelievers when they face a tremendous Day! (Qur'an 19:37)
How clearly will they hear and see on the Day they will come to Us! But today the wrongdoers are clearly astray. (Qur'an 19:38)
And warn them (O Prophet) of the Day of Regret, when all matters will be settled, while they are (engrossed) in heedlessness and disbelief. (Qur'an 19:39)
Indeed, it is We Who will succeed the earth and whoever is on it. And to Us they will (all) be returned. (Qur'an 19:40)
Us?
Great content again! Wait till they discover that Hebrew Cosmology is true. It was good enough for Moses.
What's Hebrew Cosmology? The sun, moon, and stars revolve around the earth and that the sky is held up by 4 pillars and that the earth is flat?
Fellow believers believing things that are objectively and verifiably false are the reason I'm often embarrassed to say I'm a Christian.
