This is why they used droids instead of humans like the Republic. He wanted to protect his people not send them to die. Now granted. He ABSOLUTELY gave into his hate and lost the plot and was a sith true to any sith, but he's a lot more relatable in his motivations then most Sith lords because he did it for his homeworld and country instead of purely just for personal power.
