Yes, that's it. I was there in 1969. I was twelve years old and we hiked at midnight out on Soda lake because it was too hot to hike in the day time. I remember the mineral baths and the main building. He gave us vitamins to take with our cereal. Walking on the lake was like walking on the moon; I guess. My whole family stayed there, then we headed on to Calico ghost town. I loved the adventure of hiking at midnight out in the desert!! TOM LIPPI Denver, Colorado
I have to give it to you Adam, going on exploring abandoned locations solo. You show true passion for the purpose of educating us on whats out there. I recall the location you went , I also remember there is a tree with numerous pairs of shoes hanging on it. Thank you sir, you brought me back to good times when I lived in 29 Palms,Ca.
Beat you there by 26 years Adam. The Riverside Astronomical Society held a Star Party out there in April 1989 (dark skies). At that time the California State University System was in control of it and actually holding a desert nature seminar that weekend. They may be the ones that you mentioned are refurbishing some of the buildings now. That lake was completely dry in 1989, and that was a wet year. Was the only place I've ever seen a Big Horn Mountain Sheep in the wild. Scampered up the side of those rocks faster than you or I could have run the same distance on flat ground. One thing to note for the curious who might venture there, are a lot of Sidewinders and Scorpions that come out at night in the warmer months. The seminar group that was there the same time we were was actually looking for them with black lights!
Hey Adam! I doubt you'll see this, but it's worth a shot! My names Cameron, I'm almost 15, and I know you probably hear this a lot, but I absolutely love your videos. What you do for us fans, is unbelievable, you're such an inspiration to me! I've always wanted to do what you do, and with such an entertaining and lovely guy like you leading me through it, it would make the experience better than it ever would be if I were to go alone. I've watched you for as long as I can remember, and I will watch until the final video you ever make!(don't stop soon!) I hope you have an absolutely amazing Christmas because you deserve it, and finally, thank you, for everything!:)
This site is not abandoned...majority of the resort buildings are maintained and repurposed for the Desert Studies Center, additional structures have been added more recently for housing and bathrooms... also soda lake was filled closer 10,000 years ago. The boat was from springers resort era days for going on Lake Tuendae. If planning a visit please be vigilant for posted signage as to not disturb ongoing classes.
Adam the Woo has arrived to a land that I come from called the mighty MO-JAVE!!!!.....well which is the desert region all over Southern Cali and Southern Nevada, I am originally from the Las Vegas Area, Henderson to be exact. I have explored alot of regions of this area and I am due to explore some more......I was one of the last few people to explore a site outside of my hometown called the Three Kids Mine....shame that it was demolished, I have always passed by this area called zzyx and it has caught my attention.......Thanks Adam for showing me what I have been missing out on.
I actually saw Huell Howser visit Zzyzx Road a few years ago (2008) and there was a fully functioning "Desert Studies Center" there. It's sad that it's been abandoned too.
That's Soda Dry Lake, it often has standing water and is the terminus of the Mojave River. Along with Silver Lake it used to form the perennial, Holocene Lake Mojave which dried up around 9,000 years ago. Been to Zzyzx desert centre there and had to study that dry lake. Very interesting :)
There were some signs near the main bathrooms that gave some info on the now dry lake bed. They did used to get water in them when it would rain and then once it dried they would get minerals out of there like Borax and a couple of other minerals that are commonly used in soda, helping give it the name Soda Springs. :)
Omg right when the little boat is seen under the trees I started singing Gilligans Island theme song…then Adam starts singing it…I swear our minds are twins 😵💫
I drove out to Vegas from the Bay Area about a month ago and somehow missed this! Should I ever make that drive again I will definitely have to check it out.
I'm probably not the first person to note this, but Huell Howser did a very good show on the old Hot Springs. I believe it's available on line, at Huell's archives at Chapman University.
I went and visited this area today. My family wasn't interested so I was really bummed that I wasn't able to really explore the area. I wanted to look inside the Pool House but I didn't want to get in trouble for trespassing the chained up area. I was also wondering how you found the hotel. I wasn't able to find it. Well, maybe if I was given a chance to walk around I may have found it. Anyway, I enjoyed watching this video of yours. And thank you for sharing! :)
Small amount of misinformation in this video. Zzyzx is not "abandoned" it became the Desert Studies Center shortly after Curtis Springer was removed and only a few building have been left to the elements. Otherwise Zzyzx has caretakers and hosts school field trips and researchers to study the desert environment.
whats up Adam! Another great video as always! We have E clampus Vitus get togethers here my town. I catered at one, one time. quite interesting. The resort looked like it was a neat place to visit back in the day There are a few abandoned buildings here in the MotherLode. (Where I live) I love old historic Jamestown..
+Moms Vlog80 I stayed in Jamestown overnight last year in August while visiting Yosemite, a quaint little town. Loved it! I had a room at the Carriage Inn. :) Wish I could have explored further but was on a tight schedule so could only stay the one night. Besides the Inn wasn't exactly cheap. LOL
this adventure would have been so cool to go on with you guys. I haven't been past this road in over 20 years but it stuck out in my mind so much that I remembered it after all these years!!!!
Very cool. I've passed that road a few times in the past and always thought the name was catchy. Had no idea there was a resort at the end....or abandoned one at this point. Thanks for sharing.
+LHStostardome I thought the same thing. Can you imagine what the place would be like at night?? So far from anything and really in the middle of nowhere.
Is desert studies center still there? It's owned, operated and maintained by CSUF. I took many CE classes there in the early 2000's. They had a guy living out there full time and classes every weekend.
That is a dried up lake bed Adam, a google search for images of the resort will show you lots of pictures and some with the water still there. Thanks for the vicarious adventure.
Thank you Adam for this video. My wife and I have driven many times from Northern California to Lost Wages and have seen Zzyzx road and have wonder why such an odd name and what's on Zzyzx . Because of you now we know and probably next time we'll drive to the end of Zzyzx Road.
The sign for that road used to annoy the heck put of me. Never knew how to pronounce it. Always wondered what was out there. Now I know at least some of the story! Thanks!
You do find the most interesting places to check out and explore. That's for the great job. I may not have known this place existed if it wasn't for you.
Hi Adam, I don't know why but between Chub st. The boat with you singing the Gilligan;s Isle song with your own lyrics, the Desert Duck..and Madam the Woo on that chair, then fresh bath scrub brushes in there, I just had a really great laugh! Thanks man.
Hey friend. Thanks for going on that excursion so that we all now know where that road goes to. I have been by that sign a couple of times and wondered where it went. Interesting.
Thanks Adam! I've been watching your two channels for like a month and a half or two, and I really enjoy them. I feel dangerous you don't even ask my mom. Lol
+adamthewoo there is an abandon movie theatre near me near the Northwoods mall in South Carolina. Can you make a video of it, I wondered what is inside it.
I never get bored with your cheesy jokes!! I've passed this sign several times on my way to LV, but always in too much of a hurry to lose all my money to stop and check it out. Now I know! Awesome video, as always!
been out there interesting place was also a train stop for the tidewater and tonopah railroad many years ago did you get to smell that wonderful water? lol
Dude your channel is by far my favorite.. Your dialog cracks me up.. Anyways if your ever in Oklahoma or around there let me know I'll show you some CrAzY abandoned refineries or cemeteries or schools.. Basically everything here is abandoned lol anyways man I enjoy your work.. In the weirdest way possible tee he he
my dad and i have always been curious on what was on this road and watching this video makes me feel better knowing whats on it. it would be cool if they maintained this area, like a truck stop or something
Such an interesting video..... Zzyzx Rd. is the name of a Stone Sour song and the lead singer has never revealed why he named it that so this might shed some light on that enigma..... All that aside, I enjoyed this video. As usual, very well delivered and inspiring.

I actually saw Huell Howser visit Zzyzx Road a few years ago (2008) and there was a fully functioning "Desert Studies Center" there. It's sad that it's been abandoned too.
+O Rod they still use parts of the property
The desert sfudies center operates using majority of the mineral spa buildings and added staff housing and a proper bathroom.
New information about forgotten dreams. Another place I never knew about. Thanks for the video !
I just went today...but I didn't dare go INSIDE the buildings. I chickened out. This is why I love your videos, you do it for us!

+jim ogle no problem jim, thanks for watching
I'm probably not the first person to note this, but Huell Howser did a very good show on the old Hot Springs. I believe it's available on line, at Huell's archives at Chapman University.
+Andrew Gore . Yep Huell did a great job (clue'd us in on the fake mineral springs, turns out that the water was heated by water heaters) LOL
Excellent, used to be a lot of the mineral springs health resorts in America. Now, here and there compared to the old days. Thanks very interesting.
I went and visited this area today. My family wasn't interested so I was really bummed that I wasn't able to really explore the area. I wanted to look inside the Pool House but I didn't want to get in trouble for trespassing the chained up area. I was also wondering how you found the hotel. I wasn't able to find it. i love how you actually go to all of those places i've passed a thousand times and only wondered about...
Loved this one. The abandoned vids are what drew me to your channel originally. It's always nice to see a new post-apocalyptic location you've visited
+Mind thank you
two bits of trivia. The hot springs was bogus (just heated water). The movie " The Last Resort " 2009 was filmed there :)
Thanks to your videos I was able to spot the abandoned Disney runway recently on my trip over there! Great series, been a fan for almost 2 years.

Hello Adam;...... Saw an episode of 'California's Gold' some years back that featured this location as the show's topic. But it showed a lot more buildings that were still being utilized, and a tour by an older caretaker & security man. What has happened to the still operated & maintained structures and the man with the truck ? I would enjoy an update....Thanks (subscribed for years) wouldn't miss these interesting and fun adventures....
+RockinProfessor I went on thanksgiving day and the place was a ghost town
That's a shame....now that lot's more people know about it now, I fear for the safety of this property as well as many other abandoned structures & complex's everywhere.....
Some buildings are being utilized still and operates as a research facility.
That's good news MM; thanks for the info. With some staff remaining there, and some security present, property is relatively safe.
Great video and an interesting explore!
+Rhetty 2 thank you Rhetty
Did you know there is a movie named after this road? It only grossed $30.00! Thanks for the neat location!
+Christy Nichols yeah pretty wild !
Zzyx comes up so fast on the way to Vegas... but on the way back when you see Zzyzx you know you still have a long ass way to go
