This teaser specifically is adapting a journal from Gerald Robotnick you unlock after beating "Sonic battle" twice, Emerl goes buck nutty after absorbing a ton of information about secret weapons while on the Ark and goes on a rampage. Its such a deep lore moment im so glad Sonic team is bringing back all of Sonics insane lore again

Sonic Battle was ALWAYS canon
The chronological order goes like this:
Sonic Adventure > Sonic Advance > Sonic Adventure 2 > Sonic Advance 2 > Sonic Heroes > Shadow the Hedgehog > Sonic Battle > Sonic Advance 3
Emerl is canon because of Gemerl, Gemerl appears in Sonic Advanced 3 as one of Eggman's creations, it's an exact copy of the original Emerl, at the end of Advanced 3, Gemerl becomes good and lives peacefully with Cream...
In Sonic IDW comics, Gemerl appears in the early issues, and since the IDW comics are canon (in a way), so does Gemerl and Emerl
Edit: I changed a bit the chronological order + added Shadow's game
Im not sure if sonic battle can take place before heroes, considering that everyone thought shadow was dead until he came back in heroes
In fact, the only way for Sonic Battle to be canon is to take place after Shadow (2005) as Shadow's main goal in his game was to regain his memories and figure out who he is, while in Sonic Battle he has all of his memories in tact

Sonic Battle was the first time I ever played a game with Shadow. I was kinda surprised later by Emerl's story being relevant to Sonic Chronicles of all things as the Nocturnus mass produce Gizoids.

Can i ask this but what's up with Cy Yu's editor hating anything Sonic? Like i know the series is not the best most of the time and I'm a Sonic fan saying this but, why?

SPOILERS: in Generations Eggman uses the time eater (correct me on the name) to undo ALL of Sonic's Battles so Sonic Adventures 2 NEVER happens which means Marie doesn't die because of Eggman..
