It is hard to find words to describe the brilliance of BJH. They didn't do singles (and therefore missed the mass exposure) and they had massive competition at the time, but what a wonderful band they were. Those of us who were listening in the 70s never knew how lucky we were!
Beautiful. I first saw Barclay James Harvest in Bradford in the 70s. The second time I saw them the John Lees Barclay James Harvest was in Preston a few years ago. My third time to see them will be today 23.09 2023 in Huddersfield. ❤ Thank you BJH.
I lived near Weeley in 1971, and I went to the pop festival in August. I didn't know Barclay James Harvest and they came on at night with a full orchestra and played MOCKINGBIRD. We were all mesmerised and I can't explain how magical that was. The group have been a big part of my life ever since.

I am Taiwanese. I discovered this band by chance in 1987. I bought all their albums and listened to all their songs. I think they are the best. Rock Roll band. I will still love them until 2024 because they are my youth
My Mum and Dad loved BJH …they went to see them a few times…I went one time with them…they called BJH the poor Man’s Moody Blues. Bcs they weren’t so extortionate to go and see as the MB. I Loved BJH especially Child of the Universe. 🤍🦢🤍

First Barbara, Elliot park, between Lewisham and Blackheath, record on constant repeat all night and me too. hazy, lazy sensual moments. I'll never forget. I took Susan to see BJH at ULU musta been about '71 or 72. Y'all ever wondered what came of those women you loved but let go? Such is life I guess. I still play this album, don't think anybody makes music like this anymore which is maybe or maybe not a shame. Like it.
I was sitting in a field in Essex in about 1972. It was a beautiful still night and BJH played this and the music was crystal clear and just drifted across the sky. I can still feel it now. Thanks for sharing this track

An incredible Band who never realy made the "big time" statues of the likes Genesis, Yes, E.L.P., P.Harum & the Moody Blues (of which they have many similarity but differece's) and many others....In my opinion they are amongsts the "greats". "Mocking Bird" is a masterpiece of this greatly overlooked Band. IMO.

Yes,ive seen them live back in 1980 in my town,it was an amazing show,everything about music was fantastic in those days,my country in that time was opening the doors for the greatest rock bands in the world,and i was very lucky to see those bands live.
Saw them in their very early days at Hill Stores ballroom,and in their previous incarnation, the Blueskeepers at Couhthill school, with my mate Charlie Whittaker on drums.

And then you switch on today's radio and listen to Rap and the other crap like boys bands etc - And I'm probably some years out now as I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore its turned to so much Shite. I was a schoolboy 50 years ago and have most of these records still. People wonder why I like it ..... THEY knew about music and studied it. It wasn't all a TV competition to see who can yell the loudest or look the coolest.
Reminds me of Radio Caroline in the late 70's, early 80's. They could play whatever they wanted so we had good music. I remember this song being on quite a bit, pure nostalgia!
In 1971,I played in a band called Heavy Rain, from Blackpool.We supported Barclay James at the "Amerthyst"in Preston.,they performed this track amazingly.Second on the bill was a band from Preston based band, Stoned Rose,later to become "Ritzi". I joined in 1974, and we are still together, gigging and recording.This song is special for many reasons,I met my future wife at that gig and 37 years later we're still together.Its her fav song. I remember in the '80's and '90's seeing BJH LPs in 2nd hand music store's racks and wondering what they were about. With the help of youtube I found out just what I missed out on. To me a highly underrated band. Mockingbird is a superb piece of writing and musicianship which I could listen to over and over.
