- Hello, this is Top Korea Tour and we are making videos of Seoul Tours and this episode is about Hongdae Area
Hongdae area is located near 4 universities, Hongik University, Yonsei University, Ehwa Woman’s university and Seogang University.
Because of those universities, there are many areas specifically for young people
We will show you each areas and restaurants that we tried.
1. Hongdae Area
Hongdae Area is a main area and other areas all connected to Hongdae Area.
If you are looking for hotels, book the one near Hongdae Subway station, there are many hotels there and so easy to go to anywhere from Hotel.
There are many areas in Hongdae for example, street busking, lots of shopping, lots of cafes and restaurants and we didn’t go but there are many clubs.
We tried Ddeokbokki, ddeokbokki is cheap food for the students we also tried pork and beef barbecue with Soju they were really nice.
2. Yeonnamdong Area
Yeonnamdong used to be a very quiet neighborhood but it is now very busy area with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants.
It is all because of its location being close to Hongdae Area and Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
We tried coffee and desert at the café and tried Korean rice wine Makgeolli with Pageon, Korean Pancake.
3. Mangwon Market and Manglidangil Street
Mangwon market is the traditional market located near Hongdae Area, it is likewise become very popular due to its location being close to Hongdae Area.
It is interesting to see old generation and young generation together at the market.
Manglidangil Street is near Mangwon Market, it is basically Trendy Street with lots of cafes and restaurants.
We tried Laos’s food.
4. Ansan
Ansan Mountain is a Small Mountain and it only takes 30 minutes to get to the peak but this mountain offers a very nice Seoul city view so definitely worth a visit.
5. Seodaemun Prison
Seodaemun Prison was built by Japan during the Japanese occupation, so many Korean independence fighters were kept in a prison and executed, and a place of execution is still there.
6. There were places not favorable for citizens here but they are now all became their favorite public parks.
1.) Haneul Park, used to be a landfill for Seoul and neighboring cities, too many garbage made 2 huge garbage mountains now they are transformed into Haneul Park and Noeul Park, please visit Haneul Park, you could not believe that this used to be a landfill full of garbage, try to get on the vehicle, you will get to the park in no time.
2.) Gyeongui Railway was built by Japan during the Japanese occupation, now Korean government built the new railway underground and old railway was transformed into Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
3.) Danginri thermal power plant was built during the Japanese occupation and it is still here and government is making the park inside, if you go after covid 19 is under control, you will be able to get up to the roof to see the view of River and museum as well to learn about thermal power plant.
Hongdae is definitely young people’s favorite place but they have plenty of parks and historical places for family member to enjoy as well, so we recommend Hongdae for anyone who likes the trendy places.

Nice video. This video brings back memories of when i went with friends back in July 2019. The korean bbq there was awesome, then Cass beer from GS25 after! I hope to visit again with my wife later this year.
Cass beer is good, it is low quality beer (I heard) somehow it is the best with Korean bbq haha

Hongdae is probably the area I've stayed in the most. I frequently made sure to stay in guesthouses near the station (whether near exit 2 or a couple of blocks behind the CGV).
Some of the best restaurants I've been to are in the Hongdae area between Hongdae and Hapjong station.
The Sky park is absolutely amazing too... stunning views! I didn't know it used to be full of waste! incredible!
