Didn't Mahomes only start 1 game his rookie year. Pretty sure it was only 1 maybe 2 games at the end of the season. So those TDs would be his first 3 starting years not his first 3 years.
They count the year Mahomes sat before against him when trying to use that to prop up Herbert. He does technically have the most TD's in his first 3 seasons. Mahomes doesn't have 114 in his first three seasons by the same scope. Mainly because he only started in two of those seasons.

While Brock Purdy didn't throw a pick on his last minute drive and actually put his team in position to win and did it against a better defense than Herbert and Hurts (elite QB's might I add).

I agree herbert doesn’t need more weapons. What Herbert needs is consistency. So to shady’s point about him not seeing Herbert’s growth from his rookie year since 2020 is because he’s had to learn 3 different offenses in 4 years. And those 4 years are vital because it’s the only 4 years of experience he has. So I can understand why there isn’t any growth him. But imagine if this was Herbert’s first year with the stats he’s put up this season, he’d be in the race for ROTY
Dude he's had the benefit of playing in Southern California his whole career... and then indoors in LA... he should have great number when he plays in great or no weather almost every week.
Herbert is like Dak, Kirk, Lamar, and many others that look great until the lights get bright and they melt like an ice cube in the desert! It's not easy to put a team on your shoulders and lead them to victory, that is why there are really only 2-3 players during any given time period that can do it consistently.
This is why we appreciate all the legends who have done it time and again. It ain't easy and only a few truly reach the pinnacle. Jim Kelly did it 4 straight times and lost every time imagine his story had they won all 4.
Lamar never was up 29 in playoff game and lost, Lamar vs Tennessee had almost 500 yards of total offense, Lamar has no where near a #1 receiver like this guys you named.
dont ever put lamar in the same catergory with them other guys .. lamar does more with less if he had their receivers afc championship year in and year out
If this was Mahomes that had this performance, then they would be giving him a pass. I don’t put all of the blame on Herbert. He didn’t have a great game, but neither did Purdy or hurts. No quarterback is Perfect. I think Robert will bounce back this week against Kansas City. I think the problem is the coaching. Kellen Moore was supposed to come up with this great game playing against his former team and it did not work
I don't know Dallas might not have had the sacks but they had pressure in that game. Pretty sure there was pressure on 48% of his drop backs. I am sure that is what got to him and why he had so many off throws. Even some that were completed were way behind the receiver or they were having to catch it off the turf. I have seen people blaming it on his broken finger. How does a broken finger on your left hand effect your accuracy when you are right handed. I could see having trouble taking snaps not wanting to hit that finger or even protecting it if you are about to get hit but its not like it was on his throwing hand. That shouldn't make you have that many off throws.
Dak didn't get the exception when he broke his thumb on his throwing hand and making those INT. Herbert shouldn't get one either.(on his non throwing hand)
Talking from a former athletes perspective, we all have to ignore pain at the top level at any sport, only the most elite players have the ability to ignore injury and perform at an elite level. The all time greats all did it. Our bodies break down faster from performing at a high intensity, a high physicality, and at that elite level.
Mental toughness is not something everyone has, it's extremely hard to train oneself for mental toughness. Ronnie Lott chose to have a broken finger cut off to stay in just 1 game, that is a level of mental toughness and commitment rarely seen these days and even less likely to be taught to the youth of today. I don't expect understanding of this concept, hope to give a sliver of insight. Most people give up/walk away when a given task only seems difficult let alone seem impossible. Greatness is birthed during the impossible.
If you know football, you know Justin Herbert is going through what Derek Carr had to go through, (but Herbert is better ofcourse). Good Qb that can not make up for a really bad defense everytime.

From a Bengals fan - yes, the Chargers are getting their money’s worth from Justin Herbert. Top 10 offense every year - he’s doing his job. I knew the defenses were bad but 27th since he entered? Bottom 5 defense, every year for four years? Did some more reading - Chargers defense has allowed more points to opposing offenses than Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense have scored. You can’t win like that. Did some even more reading. Justin Herbert leads the entire league since 2020 in successful game winning drives. He’s also faltered in the 4th quarter the most; he’s always in this situation. That’s the problem, and that’s why this is the narrative with him. You’re not always going to win those close games and every game for the Chargers seems to be a close game - I also didn’t know Staley was a defensive coach, I thought he was more involved with offense. Justin’s best defense definitely was during his rookie year when he was still finding his footing. A handful of losses that stir the narrative came during that rookie season. Chargers games are always close, if anything, Justin Herbert seems to be the only reason they’ve had success as minimal as it is. And Acho, really? Still with comparing situations and QB’s by mentioning Tua? I’m really happy and trust Joe Burrow. I don’t think Miami fans are complaining one bit about Tua, and I haven’t seen any Chargers fans abandon their team or bash their QB. All of them are great but whatever gets this show it’s clicks I guess. Also, WHO DEY?!
As a Charger fan, this was Herbert’s worst game he’s played. The vast majority of the games we lose are NOT Herbert’s fault, but this game was on him. The defense did their job for the most part this game aside from blowing a few coverages (as they do EVERY game), but Herbert was just off this game and misfired on the throws that decide our games normally. He completes either one of those chunk throws to Keenan and the world is singing a different tune… my point is that our defense is BY FAR the biggest issue with the team on a regular basis, for which STALEY calls the shots. @@Markizinho Nah, that's just how we judge quarterbacks. The quarterback position is the most important position in all the sports; and whether it's fair or not, they get most of the credit when their team wins and a lion's share of the blame when their team loses. You said that he has the second most game-winning drives since he has entered the league in 2020? Fair enough, but have you ever considered who those game-winning drives are against? Of his 14 game winning drives, he beat Atlanta twice (Record: 4-12, 7-10), Cleveland twice (Record 8-9, 7-10), Denver twice (Record: 5-11, 5-12), the Raiders (Record 8-8), Washington (Record: 7-10), Kansas City (Record: 12-5), Philadelphia (Record: 9-8), Pittsburgh (Record: 9-7-1), Arizona (Record: 4-13), Tennessee (Record: 7-10), and this year he beat Minnesota (Record: 2-4). While 14 game winning drives is no trivial accomplishment because it is very difficult to win in the NFL, most of them are against teams with losing records. It's my fault for not clarifying; I meant when it's time to win big games, he doesn't make the plays to win. Unfortunately for him, one of the most important criteria that we judge quarterbacks on is what they do in big games. In the only playoff game he played in, he lost a 27-7 lead, and his team scored 3 points in the second half. There have also been winnable games against the Chiefs he's played in and couldn't get it done. When you combine that with the fact that he is 27-28 as a starter in the regular season, it's hard to place him in the elite category.

But imagine if this was Herbert’s first year with the stats he’s put up this season, he’d be in the race for ROTY
Shouldn't have fired Anthony Lynn which also removed that great offensive staff 🤣🤣🤣.
Who are the 2-3 players today?
QBs are a product of their team
dont ever put lamar in the same catergory with them other guys .. lamar does more with less if he had their receivers afc championship year in and year out
Herbert is at his ceiling.
He will never be any better than he is right now.
Which is exactly what he's been the last few years.
It has an effect, in the sense you have to ignore pain, which messes with your concentration
Dak didn't get the exception when he broke his thumb on his throwing hand and making those INT. Herbert shouldn't get one either.(on his non throwing hand)
@@speeder1139 I'm a cowboy fan, so you don't have to tell me about Dak not getting a pass. Lol

BUT, like I said, this was the worst single game Herbert has played imo, and I’ve watched every single one of them from start to finish. Staley’s GARBAGE defense is unfairly putting Herbert in these situations on a weekly basis where he has be Superman for us to win.
But if Herbert is great he should be able to win that game at the end. Brady won a lot of games despite his great defense at the end. Qbs have to finish the game. They need a a coach that can maximize their talent. Imagine if someone like Daboll or McVay had these kind of weapons.
Even with Daboll and Mcvay, if your quarterback doesn’t have the winning mentality then you can’t do nothing
@@LeetraviusMcKay-q6mYou taking Daniel Jones over Herbert?
Coach and Herbert not producing. You still want Herbert over tua :)
It’s a Brandon Staley problem. It’s always been a Brandon Staley problem. I can’t tell you how much the chargers remind me of past lions teams. The second stafford moved to a competent organization he won a Super Bowl. This is the same exact situation.
Does James Jones not realize Mahomes up until last year was playing with horrible defenses and getting to Super Bowls and AFC championships. The excuses are disgusting.
Mahomes has never had a defense as bad as Herbert’s best defense my guy. He’s also had Andy Reid on his sideline you think he’s winning super bowls with Brandon Staley
Wow you’re dumb. Go look up Herbert’s defense vs Mahomes. Mahomes worst def has never been even as close to as bad as Herbert’s BEST def. You’re just ignorant.
@@Bandicoot19 Chiefs 2018 were ranked 27th in defense made AFC championship, Chiefs 2020 ranked 22nd in defense Won Super Bowl. Chargers were ranked 11th in defense last year and blew a 30 point lead that they had gained from all of Lawrence’s turnovers and having great field position. You can keep making excuses for Herbert but it doesn’t add up.
acho talking bout “my case has been rested” got me crying😭🤦🏻♂️acho SPITTIN
My daughter goes her last year at Oregon and nephews and Lil cousins all went or you play football I seen every college play Justin Herb. Good kid great kid good athlete, great arm plenty of heart, we can say the exact same thing about Tua the differences the it factor. I’ve been watching football a lot of year, some quarterbacks and being dolphin fan. It hurts to say Tom Brady was one San Antonio Spurs or another when it’s time with the game on the line either you have “IT” or you don’t. What Justin Herbert is lacking. Nothing against the kid. Great kid. Ryan Tannehill had all the talent in the world but when it comes down to Wames and they need a drive you might need to drive. I take TUA Tagovailoa. seven days a week.
brady never won anything without a top 10 defense, just in reference Herbert has a combined 27 th ranked defense since joining league
@@joshlugo5629 Brady also didn't have Herbert's top 10 offense. If the Chargers defense is bad, then their offense has to win games. Like Mahomes did his first couple of years. Chiefs had bad defense but Mahomes was outscoring and outdueling the other team and winning that way. Herbert shrinks in every big moment we've seen him. How you score 30 in the playoffs in first half but can't score anything 2nd half?
@@sonikspeed19 mahomes has never won anything with a bottom scoring defense.....you see the correlation that no one has won anything without a decent defense, yet herbert is expected too, my only explanation would be that you think hes the best qb in nfl history so you have those expectations for him
Of course a dolphins fan would take tua 😂
He's 27wins 27 loses 😂😂but y'all said ELITE wow then hate on Dak 😂😂😂
