This review is MAGNIFICENT! It covers almost every facet of the camera, and what is most remarkable, covers it ACCURATELY! Most reviews contain significant errors, but I find no fault in your presentation. This from a former Olympus service technician with decades of experience. It should be required viewing for every new Trip user, and many experienced users as well!
I bought loads of these years ago because I liked them. Now they're getting really expensive on a well known auction site. They are good little cameras. If anybody has any problems post a reply and I'll do my best to help you. I'm not on media all the time though.
Thanks a lot for this video. I have just purchased an used TRIP 35 and I am excited. Mine is from the 60's. I am just a little tensed on whether or not I have loaded the film correctly cause this is the first film that I have ever loaded. This is a pretty cool camera. Thanks again. :)
Really helpful video. I just picked one up from a charity shop for £8 and the aperture was stuck. Have now managed to rectify it and all is functioning well. Will pick up a film in the week and see what I get. Mine is a 1981 model based on the code of N15 on the pressure plate.
Got my first roll of HP5 in this. Tip to load film, bend the very end a bit and feed into the slot. Don't sit in the camera yet but wind it slowly a loop and a half. Go into a dark room, pull the film out and load into the camera. Anyway, nice and heavy well made camera.
I have one of these it was my grandads im guessing this one was manufactured in june 1976 as it has a chrome shutter button and 6 6 inside. I've never tried it but will get a film for it and try it - great video many thanks! (manufactured from 1967 to 1984 Until June 1978, the shutter button was silver-coloured metal. After that date, all Trips had a black plastic button.)
This was very helpful! Is there any way to geht the camera to shutter speed 1/400, if the light meter is not working? I think on manual mode, it always shoots with 1/40. What happens if you shoot with automatic setting?
Hey thank you so much for uploading this video it was extremely helpful and very detailed 😊 I picked up one from my work this weekend (op shop) for $25 and I think I've preformed all the tests correctly which you've provided and I think I have the green light and mine might be a score! Only one way to find out 😁 I'll update this comment when I'm more developed hehe see what I did there..?
sorry for bringing this back but one question: the red flag will only pop up in the dark with film on it or even with no filme it should appear? I am afraid my camera is broken because right now it has no film but the red flag is not showing up in the dark on A mode
Hi there Perfect in depth look at this camera. Thanks heap suoer appreciated yeah. Ive got a question: the pressure plate...mine has 2 characters in total not 3. It has "91" which I supposed to mean manufactured in January 1969(it has a chrome fire button) So mine doesnt have a factory character... Anyway, thanks for the vid
Good Job for this informative and well produced video! But could i just beg to ask for another explanation about the aperture and it's options f,2.8 - 22? I'm relatively new to shooting, Thanks in advance!
When you aren't using a flash, keep the camera on "A". 2.8 let's in a lot of light and 22 let's in a tiny amount. 2.8 will also blur the background more and so is better for portraits.
Thanks for the video, my pressure plate says ...68 and it has a silber shutter release button, so it has to be June, 1968? Because they switched to black release buttons in mid 1970s? Thanks!
This camera was manufactured from 1967 to 1984 so yours is August 1976 (6 year 8 month) Until June 1978, the shutter button was silver-coloured metal. After that date, all Trips had a black plastic button
If the shutter speed is controled automatically and the light meter is broken then how can you do sunny 16? Unless the shutter speed can be controled manually somehow
thanks! I just bought my Olympus Trip 35. I have.....probably a stupid question. I have some extra lomography 800 speed film laying around. I know this only goes up to 400ASA would it be possible to still use that film just to play around with this camera? I dont know how badly the pics will come out
Absolutely amazing video. I was given one of these from a friend who's father was in the SAS and used this in the Falklands War in 1982, i still have it and never used it to this day, after watching this video I'm going to buy film for it tomorrow. Mine has a Black button on top, so does that mean this could be from the 70's ?, Thank you for this.
So, if the metering no longer works and you have to resort to using the aperture ring settings, doesn't that change your shutter speed to 1/40 (since it's for flash)? Won't get many good pictures that way, I wouldn't think.
Hello. I have a question. Im using an ASA 200. Ive been told to also set up ASA 200 in the camera, so does it mean I cannot change to a diferent ASA when Im taking a photo?
Depends on the film you're using. If you're using a 400 ISO film then you have to set it to 400 ISO. While using the camera, you cannot change ISO. Say, you are using a 400 ISO film but you want to set it in 200 ISO, the people who will develop the film will make you choose what ISO your film was and develop it that way. In short, all films are developed in one ISO only

What an informative and well-delivered video! So glad I came across this channel. Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it.
My TRIP was also manufactured in March 73. Thank you for a very helpful video. Well done.

just discovered your work after buying this camera and I am impressed. thank you

That was brilliant... My wife has an Olympus trip 35.... we are going to give it a go...
Lovely tutorial, really helped me! The background music is very repetitive though, maybe switch that up in the future
It sounds a bit like the start of save tonight by eagle eye cherry.

my shutter only closes when the film wheel is rotated, is this a major problem?
Excellent video! Thank you very much! Can't wait for my trip to arrive!
Great Camera. I picked one up at Goodwill for $12. Works great. I get most of my film cameras there.
Is it worth $60 or not
Wonderful video and explanation too.....

what does 3Y means on the back of my camera?
Found one in my parents house absolutely mint condition thinking of using it.

Yes, you could "pull" the film in processing by asking them to process it for less time to compensate, but this will affect your shot.
Nice video! Just got a black trip for 5 bucks from goodwill and testing it soon
Excellent tutorial.
Will a 43mm lens cap work well with the Trip 35? I mean how much does the .5 matter?
Perfect, My trip just arrived!!!
Outstanding camera .Anyday far better than temparamental, battery dependent digital cameras.
Great video, but it's the only one on this channel?
That one was made on my 18th Birthday!
Great video. Thanks!

The Black shutter button replaced the chrome ones in June 1978, until they ceased production of the Trip in 1984.
What film are you getting because I am also getting this camera
@@pixelatedgal7448 On decent sunny days I'd use Kodak Ektar 100 or if its a bit duller Fujicolor C200. Kodak Gold 200 is another popular choice.
Just got one for Christmas :)
thank you very much, this helped a lot
Love this camera. Gonna buy me one I think.
Captain Euro did u buy it
Did you buy it?

The shutter speed doesn't change. You can certainly hand hold at 1/40. You'd need a meter to work out the aperture.
If you load with XP4 you will be fine as it will push in processing, near enough
great video! could you please review some early cheap range finder cameras. thank you :)
David Bailey? Who's he?
Our Trips are from the same month and year!
Please review Voigtlander Bessa L camera
Is it weird that I found this camera in an abandoned home and it had the exact same film in it as this video??
Thats so helpful, thank you

how do you know when the lens is in focus?
The trip 35 uses zone focussing. Align the focus ring to the setting which closet matched what you are photographing.
la mía pone (N 2 Z) :( eso que fecha de fabricación es?
How old this camera
Good video but to make it much better show some images taken with the Trip at the end, I have 2 Trips.
Thanks!
I own a February-76 model apparently :D

Great video but can’t concentrate to save my life with this music over the top that’s louder than the voice explaining..
the voice is disturbing the background music. Sad.
Lose the music then I will be able to hear what you are saying! Until then I'll have to move on. Sorry.
Hi, thank you for this nice video! I have some questions. May I can contact you by mail?
Great video, thanks!
Our Trips are from the same month and year!
