What they r doing is: when green energy is produced in excess: like solar produce more power than required in noon time since it is a waste as we can’t store electricity they will convert it into hydrogen and use it at the place of polluting fossil fuel or coal.
These kinds of ideas they are trying.
With seaweed yielding 3 ton per hectare, just 15,000 to 16,000 square kilometers could meet India's crude oil demands. India's ocean territory spans 23 lakh square kilometers, and increased investment could reduce this area to 5,000 square kilometers
That is my point
Ethanol with the help of algae, seaweeds and agricultural waste make more sense than sugarcane. Additionally, alagae can be used to clean industrial waste water as algae can blossom in industrial waste water. This will help in cleaning the waste water and then using the algae to produce biofuels. This will also solve the issue of algae biofuels being water negative. The cleaning of industrial waste water and reusing it for biofuel production will help in reducing the requirements of freshwater required for algae biofuels.
