    My neighbours raised my girls when I lived there as I did theirs. They were all our kids. Didn’t matter what colour or religion they were. We all made sure they were fed and watered. We always made sure they stayed out of trouble, just had to give em a look and tell them we’d speak to their mums lol we were such a community I’ve never had that anywhere else I’ve lived. They always had a place to sleep. made sure if I knew I’d have my girls friends over I’d make halal lasagne so we could all eat together, we all loved and looked out for each others kids. I wish I could move back. Only moved because my girls got older and they needed more space 😭 I had the best neighbours here xx

    Went to the youth club every week in the early 80’s. My auntie lived there. All the kids knew each other and it was a great place to knock about/live.

    Good filmaking. Rowley Way always caught my attention so why not look it up on You Tube now and then?

    lived there in the 90s.
    ive lived in well over 30 different places but this is easily top 3. i still walk through it every time im close to it. used to live in 101b.
    i remember a guy hung himself in that stairweill around 92/93 and the police where such bastards. they told his mother and while she was screaming on the street traumatised they just stood around laughing and joking.

    I love arc it it the best club I've ever been to I still go there now everyone is so friendly and if there is any trouble they will be stopped and they do many trips and they are all so fun and since I've been there I feel so proud of myself because of the events that we have done and the films that we have been in are astonishing!

    this went from public housing to millions of dollars lol

    • @thornbird6768

      Yes it did !! Many were bought by private landlords who put the rent up 3 fold ! I doubt very much of this estate is still public housing .

      Why wouldnt someone not buy to actually live there?? With those astronomical rents, i doubt these are getting rented out much.

    What is happening to all the people who lived on these estates?

    one question i would ask the architects of these brutalist projects is were they thinking about crime? making so many narrow corridors and making it so secluded makes it a fertile ground for crime.

      These buildings were completed in the 60’s the level of crime we have today didn’t exist then !! They assumed these estates would always be filled with working law abiding citizens ! The local councils changed all that when being unemployed became a priority for council housing !!!

      Alexandra Road, at least, didn't/doesn't suffer from this shortcoming. Neave Brown consciously labored to create "defensible space."

    It shown many time council estate failed because of the wrong people living there. If you get rid all the trouble maker and lease it out to the middle-upper class, the whole block suddenly become Chelsea. No point hand it out to trash whom do not appreciate.

    • @thornbird6768
      @thornbird6768 3 года назад +1

      You don’t have to be middle upper class 😡 but employed would be good . Too many of these estates got filled with unemployed immigrants by the local councils !!
