    Lots of people on my neighborhood Facebook have said they’ve never seen this many dragonflies ever so something is different … Very swampy around here so we always have some just not this many

    Ah nice, I just got three Carolina Roses shrubs, so it's nice to see I picked the correct bush for the spot I wanted them in per the information in this video.

    Thank you for this informative video. There are some beautiful wild roses nestled near a marsh where I walk. I need to find out what species they are. The blooms are so beautiful.

    Another great video❤ I am trying to find a video on dragonflies … I live in Louisiana and there are 100s in my yard for the past few months and I’m not sure why there’s so many but we did have a severe drought last year and maybe this could’ve contributed to it. Not sure just trying to find information about it thanks so much.

      Some species of dragonflies migrate and can show up in good numbers. If they have been there for months my best guess is they have found a steady supply of food.

      You are so welcome! Climbing prairie rose is beautiful - just be sure to put it in a place where its wildness won't be a problem.

    Hi there! Thanks for another fantastic video! Do you think smooth rose would behave in a garden of many other plants (wood poppy, golden Alexanders, foxglove beard tongue, wild basil...etc)?

      @BackyardEcology  2 дня назад

      If you keep an eye on it and control the suckers it would, otherwise it might creep into everything.

    Great video! I planted a R. arkansana earlier this year that is doing great. Do you know if they need cross pollination to get hips? I was planning on planting another either way, but my current one did not produce any hips this year. Could have been that it is a smaller plant but was curious if the lack of cross pollination could be a factor.

    • @BackyardEcology
      @BackyardEcology  25 дней назад +1

      Roses in general are self fertile, so they usually produce fruit without another shrub to cross pollinate.

      I got some seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery online and I think they ship plants or starts at certain times of the year. Just make sure to follow their directions for growing because some seeds require special conditions to germinate.

      Contact your state native plant society. They usually will have a list of native plant nurseries in your area.

    Hmmm...pink, pink, pink,...and then finally white like the only color wild rose I ever see here in MD woodlands. Now I have to see if it's invasive. Yikes!

    • @BackyardEcology
      @BackyardEcology  26 дней назад +1

      In many areas the most common rose encountered will be the invasive multiflora rose - unfortunately.

    Hello and thanks for another great video! I wanted to ask whether Virginia Rose would do well in a raised bed. I'm guessing the raised bed would limit the suckering, which would be a plus. I'd like to plant a few nice ephemerals with it for very early Spring blooms before it fully leafs out. Any recommendations for other small plants that would work with it?

    • @BackyardEcology
      @BackyardEcology  26 дней назад

      Yes, absolutely! I know people who have them in raised beds and the Carolina rose is doing great. Spring beauties or one of the violet species may work well as they both can handle the amount of sun that the Carolina rose will do best in. Both of those are fast spreaders too and would be contained by the bed.

    Are there native roses in Texas?

    • @BackyardEcology

      Yes there are native roses in Texas. They weren't covered in the video as the focus of this channel is the eastern US - from the Mississippi River Valley east.

    I didn't really get to enjoy my new roses the petals were immediately eaten by beetles and sunflowers by ants? I think😢 they're blooming a little more now and less beetles

    • @BackyardEcology
      @BackyardEcology  11 дней назад

      It can happen. Were the beetles Japanese beetles?
