- This is a re-upload, but a special one. People were asking for the complete version and also with vocals, so here it is! I'm very fond of this song and it was the first song to explode on my late channel. Enjoy!

I knew the guy that wrote the music for Duvet, the lyrics were written by the singer. A lot of people think it was by a Kpop artist called Boa, but it was actually a small band from London by the same name - if you search youtube you can find the original music video. Paul sadly passed a couple of years ago, but I know he'd have loved this - he was always very proud of this song and the knowledge that people still liked it enough to keep reworking it would have really made him happy.
Thanks for this.
im pretty sure everyone knows its not the kpop group.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Thats the one anime I never skipped the opening
I'm here 'cause Boa shared this version on their facebook page. Sounds fucking amazing.
It was the early 2000's when I first discovered Lain.
Though I didn't get Techtv, through cable, with a booster I was able to pick it up through the old antenna on the roof as it broadcasted out of Albany.
Though it was staticky, I was able to watch it, Boogiepop Phantom, Silent Mobius, Call for Help, Cinematech, and X-Play. Along with other channels.
Lain though, sat with me the most. There was just something about it that resonated with my young mind, and I fondly remembered sitting late nights in my basement watching this in the warm glow of my CRT.
Years later, I told this to an anime fan much younger then me, and he responded "you're so lucky, you got to live the aesthetic". I guess in some way I did, but before that, I never thought of that.
Sorry for the wall of text, great work Astrophysics.
I only watched Lain last year. It is definitely one of those shows that sticks with you. I am a bit jealous of how you got to watch it though.
I wonder how much an old CRT would cost for an authentic rewatch experience.
@@neutronium9542 check craigslist people just throwing them away.
Watched during that time too. Life is so odd, our experience an “aesthetic” lol.
I guess it's kind of an amazing experience being able to watch such anime series in 2000's, where there's no actual fanbases, internet communities etc.

@Thea S what fear would that be, exactly? im asking because i may have the same thing and have never met anyone else with it
I don't think there's a better expression of one of the themes of Lain, that we're all connected, than a remix by someone in Brazil of a song from a band in London in the 90s that most of us know from a Japanese show and having 480 thousand people from around the world show up to listen
Edit: As of present day, present time it is over 1.5 million people.
Edit: As of present, day present time it is over 2.1 million people.
Present day, present time.
@@Baemoth AHAHHAHAHA
And it gets even better when you realize there's no potential end to this chain of events, years from now people will come across this remix, maybe get them interested in the anime, and start the cycle again. As long as anyone remembers, we'll all be loving Lain!
Despite so many separations this song from the 1990s still strikes a cords in so many people that people still return to it even 20 years later.

everything about Serial Experiments: Lain felt familiar, despite never having seen it. I remember seeing art around the internet when I was was a teenager and I remember hearing this song when I hung out with my uncle as a kid, but I could never put any of this together. now that I've sat through the series here on YT, it still feels vaguely familiar, yet it's so new to me and it feels really special to me now. and especially with how we all are now, constantly within arm's reach of any technology that could distance us or bring us closer together; and with the pandemic going on, I still feel disconnected from reality whenever I go out for groceries, but I guess there's solace knowing we're all experiencing technology together, whether we want to or not.
We're living in the time foretold, that's why it feels familiar. Of all the futures that cyberpunk predicted in the 80s & 90s, Lain is probably the closest to what we actually got.
I once read from a YT comment that Lain was similar to liminal space, as in it was "creepy, unsettling, you want to keep going back to explore, but ultimately there really isn't anything there", and it completely fits with what you just said

A shame you seemed an honest man
And all the fears you hold so dear

And you know what they say might hurt you
And you know that it means so much
And you don't even feel a thing

And you don't seem the lying kind
A shame that I can read your mind

And you know I don't mean to hurt you
But you know that it means so much

THIS IS GREAT!!! Initially I wanted the vocals to be a little louder, but now that I finished the song, it’s good that the vocals didn’t mess with the flow of the song.

I met BOA years ago at A-Kon in Dallas. The group as another user mentioned isn't the Korean artist BOA, the group was actually rumored to stand for "Bunch of Alcoholics" lol.
Anyway, the thing is, the lead singer and her brother were the son and daughter of Bad Company's Paul Rogers. Their names are Steve and Jasmine Rogers and they're actually half Japanese.

What a time to live. It's all coming full circle- first the bards, now the retrowavers.... I'm slightly more okay with 2020 now.
Wow this is really good. Honestly synthwave is the only genre I enjoy anymore. The feeling of nostalgia is powerful. It’s bitter sweet.

I was listening to this at 1.25x speed the first time I heard it and just realized I hadn't turned speed down from my last-watched video. Listening to it on normal speed is weird now. Try the 1.25x modifer. It's glorious.
I adore this version of the song. Being slower and having Instrumentals that fit the vocals a lot. I know it'll never happen, for obvious reasons. But i still consider it a great crime that this song isn't available through any other means. Because it'd join the list of "astrophysics songs i listen to more than i care to admit" in a heart beat.
Then again, i can always just go out of my way to get this song from here.

OH, MY DAYS! I was on another tab on my browser and this played next after the original version and It just made my eyes light up and gave my brain euphoria! This version found me and came to me and I love it!
I miss the cables and electronic days, when digital technology was something mysterious, and new, I didn't enjoyed 90's very much since I was very young... but as I can observe and remember... everything still felt more... "touchable", "real" and "relevant", relationships, people and work. Nowadays everything goes so fast... so much of everything, people don't have time for contemplation... Clouds, cryptos, social networks... these thoughts reminds me to that Matrix quote from agent smith "The Matrix was re-designed to be like the peak of *your* civilization, because as soon machines started to think, it became *our* civilization". The Cyberpunk 101 I guess, high tech, low life.
Just a fast thought due nostalgic feelings hehe, Koyaanisqatsi moment here.

I bought Boa's US album "Twilight" as soon as I could get a copy back in 2001, solely because of 2 songs I'd heard: Duvet and Deeply. It's a great album that still holds up all these years later. "Get There" is also a good album, but a little more aggressive and lacks some of the charm of Twilight. Oh, and in case you don't know, Twilight is essentially a rerelease of their first album "Race of a Thousand Camels" but with a few more songs and the songs are in a completely different order.
This makes me feel old.
