Thank you! As a Trombone that got chosen at school to learn to play a bassoon, I am obviously new to reeds, this video was helpful! Keep up the tutorials and you’ve earned a new sub!
I am completely new to bassoons. Does bocal choice make that big a difference? I picked up a Schreiber & Sohne bassoon that needed repairs and was without a bocal. When I went to price bocals, I have seen price ranges from $39.00 to $1,900.00.
I have used pipe cleaners for my reeds. I noticed after opening a few of these reeds the pipe cleaner fibers tend to get stuck inside. I once grew so irritated with a very soft sounding mellow reed and ended up opening it to find out the pipe cleaner fibers were muting it.

I'm also trombone, but chose to play bassoon. Any tips for a fellow beginner?

I’d love to learn the bassoon. But so expensive!

Lol I'm a saxophone player coming over to bassoon and everything seems REALLY hard :|
You aren’t supposed to soak the reed fully, it’s only up to the metal part
