    I've test driven both of these in the UK.
    MG 4 and Ora Funky Cat.
    Both excellent cars.
    Due to a broken Toyota I've bought a second hand Ex Motability (government scheme for disabled users) MG 4.
    Loving it.

      Since you mention Toyota, what is striking about the MG 4 is that it's about the same size as a Corolla Hatchback and is actually price competitive for the specifications. Even without any subsidy. Give it a couple more years and EVs will be cheaper than ICE vehicles completely. The likes of Toyota who've missed the boat will see their lunch eaten from under their noses.

    Tesla Viking, have you actually sat in either of these cars you're giving buying advice for? Let alone driven them? How can you recommend either of them?

    • @hvh377
      @hvh377 Год назад +1

      @@Bo-electric Euh. Buying a car unseen or unsat in is something else entirely to giving buying advice without actually having seen or driven a car. On what information is the recommendation based?
      However, it's not untypical for Viking to have a strong opinion while doing very limited research on a topic.
      Don't talk nonsense like 'you can sit comfortable in any car'. That might be the case for you, but it isn't typically the case for everyone.
      If those many YT videos telling you the seats in some car are bad, all were Viking-like reviews, you wouldn't actually know whether the seats are bad, would you? Nobody would have actually sat in them before telling you they are bad.

    • @hvh377
      @hvh377 Год назад +1

      @@Bo-electric I don't like the way Tesla Viking presents his 'facts' which are clearly quite often wrong, misrepresented statistics or extremely biased (pure propaganda). Nobody benefits from misrepresentation of facts.
      You can be a proponent of EVs and the electrification of our economy without being blind to reality or factually wrong.
      Electric is the future, absolutely. No doubt about it. I'm an electr(on)ics engineer myself. There is no other way.
      Sure _YOU_ can buy a car without a test drive. I don't dispute that. I wouldn't do it, but everybody wants something else from a car and everybody makes his/her own choices when buying stuff.
      What you cannot do is invent a story and present it as fact. Which is what you do if you give buying advice without actually investigating or trying the product.
      Or you _can_, but then you should not be surprised if people laugh at your advice and call it out.
      I'd like to see the research that shows that the absolute majority of buyers is wrong and just losing time by sitting in a car first, before they buy it. You cannot see whether a seat is comfortable or not. It's just not possible. You can assume something about comfort when you see a seat, but you cannot know.

    • @hvh377
      @hvh377 Год назад +1

      @@Bo-electric Hey, you keep picking your comfy chairs with your eyes. No problem!
      And of course you don't have to try your exact copy of a product to know how it feels. You can't drive your specific new car before you buy either. It's built to order. That's why they have demos. You're playing dumb now. Please don't do that.
      There will be fewer dealers in the future, I'm sure, but some will remain and other things will take over their function. Tesla also still has sales centers, where you can try before you buy.

    • @hvh377
      @hvh377 Год назад +1

      @@Bo-electric I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. My apologies.
      For the third time: I have no problem with your method of buying a car. If you just want to roll the dice or you can be sure your requirements will be met from the information on the website, you go right ahead.
      You can keep up bringing up this point, but the fact that this works for you is not going to convince me it would work for me (or for even most people). I'm not dropping 50k-60k on a product unseen and I think it is very unwise if you did do that. But to each his own....
      IF dealers become non-existent (which might happen for new car dealers, but secondhand dealers have a bright future for now), then all automakers will put Apple store-like shops everywhere, so you can still try before you buy. Tesla does this for example. As does Nio.
      You can keep on ignoring this fact as you have done the last time and keep banging on about dealers disappearing, but the evidence is there.
      I'd like to see the evidence that most of us don't have 'special needs' as you say it. I'm going to let that go, because I assume your not a native English speaker, but it is a highly offensive term.

      I would of absolutely hated owning an BYD Atto 3 had I not test drove it! The stupid fixed headrest made the car extremely uncomfortable for me! The lower part of the headrest dug into my shoulders and lower neck. And that was just a 30 min test drive any more than that would of been hell! I sat in the MG4 in Thailand, both my wife and I just thought wow this interior is so cheap looking! And that was the end of us liking the MG4. We test drove a Tesla Model Y, very nice car to drive, but wow 15" screen and could not see many of the icons, there was 4 of us in the car, none of us thought it was worth the money.
      The upcoming brand new Hyundai Kona EV look very promising, as does the Ioniq 3. But like all of them I will still try them out first before spending $50k plus. But I guess some people have more money than brains to buy without seeing of trying!

    • @gregb1599
      @gregb1599 Год назад

      Both have pros and cons. For me, the bigger battery is a no-brainer, as it performs better in our colder climate, it's got a much faster charging tested up to 140kw vs under 100kw in the LFP. The crazy people try and say that LFP can be charged to 100% without damaging the battery, which is true sort of. My 2014 or 9 year old 24kwh Nissan Leaf I own has always been charged to 100% and I charge it every single day and it's still going strong, so the new non LFP batteries will still out last the car itself! Now let's look at the capacity the MG4 64kwh if charged to 80% is 51kwh or the same amount as the 51kwh. However on a long trip no one ever wants to charge to 100% as from 80-100% is painfully slow! So if both charge to 80% then of course the 64kwh battery wins!

My question is do we need to replace battery within 3 years of purchase as we will be riding around 1000km a month? Is it really worth it for ride share just nervous as they mentioned warranty as a plus point but they have mentioned non commercial use. Thank you.

    I saw the Funky Cat at Fully Charged UK last year and really liked the styling. But Ora have really dropped the ball with UK pricing. The entry level car should have been a £20k car, with the biggest battery top spec at under £30k. The compromises on spec wouldn’t have mattered then. But it starts at £32k for a car with just a 48kWh battery. For an unknown brand with a car that doesn’t charge very fast and has a tiny boot, that’s way too much money. If you have £32k buy an MG4 Trophy. If you don’t by an MG4 SE SR which is £27k

Many are claiming the Blade battery are safer, yet some blade batteries in China have caught fire while charging! While the numbers are low the Blade battery does still burn! Yes the LFP can be charged to 100% but that is only useful around town as no one of any battery chemistry wants to charge to 100% on a trip due to the painfully slow 80-100%

      And I am the opposite, I prefer the non LFP battery as in cooler climates, the LFP suffers! It's also much slower charging, poor range calculation which is why they always show the same range everytime you charge the car. Also so many claim the LFP will last longer which is true, but I have probably the worst battery ever for an EV it's a 2014 Nissan Leaf or 9 years old and it's battery is still going strong. So, in the real world, the non LFP battery is still going to out last the car! Safety? It's not a big difference. So far, only 1 Nissan Leaf has ever caught fire, and its cause was never known. So the only positive I can see is cost. They are cheaper to make and do not have cobalt, but everything else in the car has been made using cobalt!

Then many use the stupid augument that the LFP can be charged to 100% but what is 80% of the 64kwh battery? 51kwh so if someone owns a 64kwh and chargers to 80% then it's the same capacity. However on a long road trip no one will want to charge to 100% as the time from 80%-100% is painfully slow so if both charge to 80% then the non LFP wins

    The MG4 looks to be one of the best value for money electric cars in the car markets of several European countries! Unfortunately, it is not available in all European countries; and it is not yet able to "kill" badly overpriced VW ID.3 sales. However, I have mixed feelings about the success of MG4. If we remember what a repressive and anti-democratic regime China is!
    I am looking forward to Tesla finally making good on their promises and bringing an affordable compact electric car to European market...There is very little chance of expecting something affordable from European legacy automakers...

    I haven't seen any positive reviews for the Ora. None have had anything bad to say about it, but they're all pretty much "meh" it's not as good as other EVs, such as the MG4.

    Just read the MG 4 in NZ will start at NZ$54,990, way too high for the average Joe. For some reason (greed?) any big ticket item tends to suffer from a multiplier effect on the price when they enter NZ. The cynic in me thinks the dealer may have added the clean car rebate of $8625 to the selling price. Will pass on this one.

      MG Australia called me last Tuesday about the deposit I put down for an MG4, Viking saying $47,990, aaahhh no more like $51,000, waiting for the base model price otherwise I am going the BYD Dolphin, should be priced much better

      @cinnamont1224 Год назад

      @@jarrettstock9082 Sad to say I am not optimistic that the BYD Dolphin will be much cheaper than the MG 4. Due to the lack of hatchback models coming in and therefore competition the distributors will be price gouging. Until Tesla comes out with the Model 2, I think NZ distributors will continue to screw us on on supposedly cheap Chinese made EVs. There is a conundrum though, can I afford to wait till then and run the risk that the clean car rebate will be discontinued?
