On a very dark night, it is as though I’ve killed someone What will satisfy your hunger? Someone dreams of you, yet you dream of no one What will satisfy your hunger? The birds of silence scattered-words of the night melted away No one wishes for you to halt Dark lovers reach the shore where all has died out We have already been branded with the black mark I cross a river of blood in your hands and when I’ve drained a drop of nothingness I believe you will give me my very first name You are my wound, and I am to kill someone A very dark night of a gentle assassin
Any tone freaks want to guess how they got the sound? I'm guessing the rhythm part is a Fender, and the lead is the a semi/hollow Gretsch I see in one of the pictures. Hard to tell what amp but with that harsh of a distortion it could be a transistor amp. Definitely lots of clipping on the tape as well - so it's interesting to think of how this might have sounded live, with somewhat less distortion. (I'm guessing they didn't play fuzz bass and the bass was actually relatively clean... in the intro, before the whole band is crowding on the tape, the bass sounds cleaner. Definitely has an overly-hot-tape vibe to me) ... Likely to be some clipping introduced at the mic stage as well, especially on the lead, since the lead guitar must have had the amp cranked way up.
Thers some live footage of them playing in front of a sunset. SG going into an EHX fuzz, Flagner/phaser, into what looks like a roland space echo. Everyone was using Acoustic Amps
generally through single coil type stuff, funny thign the gretsch you mention is actually a Yamaha SA60 or something which actually had single coils underneath the humbucker cover. Definitely with a really clipped mic because of the sheer noise thats coming out of them live. i think he uses multiple fuzzes, there was an interview talking about his gear somewhere
I was able to get the LRD feedback guitar sound by installing a really shitty microphonic humbucker from a no name 60 Japanese guitar in my Jazzmaster. It's my secret sauce.
The bass line is essentially from "I love him & where he goes I'll follow" by that 60s girl group; still this music is 100% stellar. NEVER heard of them before until RUclips algorithm'd me. Does anyone know what their name means, translation, significance?

Naked Larries. It is a ruin, which is contained in the darkness. The words are helpless before this huge ruins. Embarrassment and dizziness, forgetfulness and recollection, and absolute sense of loss. Naked Larry was released in 1906 by Takashi Mizutani (Vo, G) was born in Kyoto. Although it has been active for more than 20 years, during that time, members have been changing dramatically, including Fujio Yamaguchi (G), but it is safe to call Larries = Mizutani. From the early 70 's, moved the place of activity to Tokyo and together with the then underground band, Lost Alraf, brain police, Red Lakers, Jacks, Mura Oshima etc, born in a political storm, Japan's rock scene Of the population. But with the end of the hot season the other bands disappeared, only Larry continued to live. That is a matter of course in a sense, because the stance of Larry, Mizutani is completely different from the other bands. Larry was a single "despair" already completed from the beginning. There is neither evolution nor degeneration, neither rise nor descent. Only there is isolated silent darkness. It is completely unrelated to the movement of the times and musical trends. That's why Larry's music is said to be a hetta or a one-pattern sort of misplacement, so Larries was outstanding from the beginning beyond that kind of stuff. Slimming like slimming down everything, eyes that see eyes on the other side, voices with less intonation are wrapped in deep echoes, and the guitar twists distortion as if it resonates with each one of the cranial nerves. The coldness blue of that sound certainly surpasses Velvet · Underground. Pirate tapes are circulating around the mountains, but there is no official single work at all. Although talks have been raised many times over and over, it has been released overseas more than 10 years ago due to efforts such as the late chapter, but it has not been realized yet. I can hardly imagine such a lock will emerge again in the future. To the few live shows, the children of the night arrive from nowhere and share "time". The omnibus LP "OZDAYS" they participated in now is also not available. Naked Larries: Magazine article "Rock File" 1989 vol.5
The track is Assassin's Night - the bass line from Peggy March’s song and this strangely intersects with the fact that there were many female singers in the music outsider art.
Certainly not in this band & Peggy March was not an outsider artist. How do quantify your claim that that there were "many" female singers in that scene (as opposed to male singers)? What a stupid statement lol.
This makes me think of a space disease/virus that has invaded the earth on December 25th and drove everyone crazy, turning them into violent bloodthirsty creatures It forces me to imagine Times Square and Disneyland on fire and reduced to debris.

they got this sound by taking a godly amount of acid
