- Looking for a cheap car with more than 500bhp? Some of the most powerful cheap cars you can buy second hand? Look no further than this video, as I walk you through 5 cars with 500bhp or more that you can buy for less than £20,000.
That part of the description sound familiar to you? Congrats that means you probably actually read my descriptions, and for that I thank you massively, because I always write them at about 4am after I’ve finished making my videos, and I’m completely delirious, so if you’re reading them that’s a definite sign that I should keep doing these long RUclips video nights.
500bhp is a huge amount - some supercars today don’t even have that level of power. But today you can get that for less than £10k if you’re lucky (and willing to deal with a potential money pit).
In this video I provide the stats, specs, costs of ownership, and other relevant information to these cars - let me know in the comments if I’ve made any mistakes or if there are obvious omissions from the list that I should have known!
I know already that I have brought the “ThEy’Re ChEaP bEcAuSe ThEy’Re HiGh MiLeAgE aNd CoSt LoAdS tO mAiNtAiN” comments upon myself. Inb4 an influx of those, as well as comments like “just buy a 1999 Saab/Lexus/Volvo and put a turbo on it and you have 500bhp for less than £5k” because that’s seemingly the most common set of responses. One day I’ll just do a video on Volvos, Saabs and Lexuses to make those people happy.
Huge shout out to everyone supporting the channel so far - honestly still can’t quite believe I’m past 7.5k subs, when my goal for this year originally was to reach 300 subs! Hopefully I can keep bringing the content, and you guys can keep bringing the support.

Its the maintenance that kills them the rs6 is nearly 2k just for front disc n pads i looked at getting one and the shocking mpg lucky if yoy get 10mpg round town. most of them kill tyres which prices are always going then if something goes wrong then your fucked
@@andy110492yes its 2k if you get geniune parts and take it to dealer for service. i have rs6 c5 model, i just replaced front brake discs and pads with zimmerman parts, paid 600 for the whole set, and changed them in like 1-2hours.
I would say the E55 AMG is a better bet. It has a simpler 5.4 with a twin screw supercharger. While it 'only' produces 471BHP stock it can easily be pushed to 650BHP with light modification. The E63 on the other hand is far harder to modify to create meaningful power gains.
The E55 can also be had for £6000+ and is a much simpler engine to work with. None of that variable valve timing to go wrong.
Yeah most people on forums etc mention the 55 as the better option, I just used the 63 as it fit the 500bhp stock category! I've heard the 63 engine gives some pretty significant trouble too
The Audi S6 C6 had a 5.2L V10 (same with the 2nd gen Gallardo) but the RS6 C6 had a refubrished Twin Turbo 5.0L V10 (not used in a Gallardo). It is related to the naturally-aspirated V10 found in the Audi R8, S6 and S8, and the Lamborghini Gallardo, but the RS6's engine has around 400 unique parts.

The 5.0 v10 engine block in the rs6 are from the vw Touareg v10 tdi and not the lambo.

For those who want a much more modern car then the e63 mentioned in this video with 500 BHP + then consider a w212 e class. You can either get the pre - facelift or the facelift which cost just a little over £20,000. However, the pre - facelift cost around about £19,000. With this you will get much more technology than the older versions mentioned in this video such as a much better infotainment system, Radio, Single CD MP3 Compatibility, 7 inch Colour Display, SD Memory Card Slot, USB, Aux - in Socket. Just search up on Autotrader, Mercedes, E class, E63, 2008 - 2013 and you will find many results. However, if you want the facelifted version, search up on autotrader everything the same as the pre - facelift version except put in 2014 - 2015, and you will find some results with an average cost of £25,000 . If you want the e63s then it will cost around £30,000 - £35,000, depending on the mileage and the condition on all these examples. I've got a CL55 Kompressor, and yes they can be expensive but that's due to the ABC suspension. If looked after its great, but the parts can be expensive ie each shock is £600. Owned the car for 2 years and spent 2k on her mostly on mods she pushes out 650hp and 870 nm torque. Great car

Yet another great video, the BMW cars are so very good in longevity but the M6 is a problem car in a few ways, water getting in boot (trunk in USA) area where battery is, electrics leaving you with limp home mode and unless used daily seems to need charging an awful lot. The "I drive" system quite complicated and takes time to get used to but puzzles a few.
Fabulous to drive and to look at but has a few disappointments.

BMW’s Vanos is not variable valve timing. Its the variable camshaft positioning (Variable Nockenwellen Stellung). These cars have also Valvetronic, which is the variable valve timing.

Great video as always! Whats your opinion about the rs3? Im personally very glad audi decided to resurrect the 5cylinder madness, I missed it eversince the urquattro s1, and altough there were 5 cylinder cars like the golf 4 , bora, passat etc. But they werent as crazy.
I really like the RS3, both the old and new ones - the new sportback looks like a baby RS6 (not exactly but kind of haha) and it's super nice. Think I'd go for the saloon personally!

the s8 is badass. there are a few here in Toronto with less than 150 kms... for around 25-33gs..and in mint condition only thing... some have worn out leather seats

I own a cl55 amg, and so far as reliability goes its been pretty good, I’ve had one common problem where the gear shift won’t shift out if park and I fixed it with a genuine Mercedes part for 20$. Although I have heard of the looking abc suspension issue I haven’t had an expensive bill from mine yet.

It's true. Admittedly my example isn't as exciting as the cars on this list, but I bought a fully loaded C220 estate on a '12 plate back in 2016. It had done 23k miles - pretty much brand new. Had all the AMG bells and whistles / was a stunning car to behold (all bias aside :p) and it cost well over 40k new.
I got it for 14k. Absolutely bonkers.
p.s. some chop wrote it off for me in 2018 ;(

XKR 0-60 4.6s. M6 4.5s etc., for amazing cars however it just highlights to me how amazing the BMW 335d tourer is at 4.9s 0-60 for a diesel estate giving over 50mpg.
Yeah that is insane actually, to get that kind of performance while being that economical is unreal!

@@CarsWithJB Hi there JB, I do actually live in the US. So unfortunately for me, I cannot have that beauty. :( I'm stuck with the S6. However that is one of the cars on my radar. The cars that are on my radar are, the Audi S6 V10 version, the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG with that naturally-aspirated V8, the BMW E60 M5 v10, and last but not least (and also one you forgot) the 2010 and up Maserati Quattroporte. However it doesn't quite make 500 horsepower, a little shy of it. But still an interesting car, and certainly one that's on my list and radar. Just discovered your channel actually and I'm glad I found it. :)

Would love an affordable reliable 500bhp car.. but for now, I’ll stick with my REVO mapped 410bhp Mk2 RS and E63 630i Sport... the straight six N52 may not be all that powerful at 260ish bhp.. but it’s a smooth smooth engine that’s fairly reliable these days.
If I had the choice though, I’d love an Audi RS
Mate the MK2 looks sick - 410bhp is the real deal too that must absolutely fly along! The bimmer sounds good too - it's honestly like the size of a boat though haha. I'm a huge Audi fan so I'd have to agree with you on that one
@@CarsWithJB Thanks my friend, the RS is a beast, I love it! The 630I Sport looks big, but handles great with the 3L six.. at the end of the day is the polar opposite to the RS, and I like that. It just wafts along.. Even the Bangle design has aged well. Great video though, I'm slowly wading my way through them all :)

Definitely a fair point - I think I've probably just passed the curve where I want to buy one of the quick cars for young drivers, I'm looking at getting a new car within the next 12 months but I'm trying to get the money together for something a little bit nicer, like a Cayman S, or a classic, like the Lancia Montecarlo. As soon as I'm in a good position to buy I'll be on it, and it'll be all over the channel don't worry about that haha!

Also the SMG pump on the E60 can go wrong as well as them plastic rod bearing but you can get aftermarket metal ones

The RS6 engine is actually closer related to that of the Touareg V10 TDI than to the Gallardo, even though it’s not as cool to share an engine with a VW than with a Lambo
Yeah you are correct - it's related to the lambo engine, but they have 400 unique parts 🤙🏽

Agreed - I didn't realise the illumination package wasn't available on the XKR! It's super cool, my girlfriend's dad drives an F-Type with it and it is B U F F.
I thought the illumination pack only came on the newer XJs but I could be wrong. Those phosphorus blue lights around the air vents and door sills look cool and very Jaguar.

Great video, but there are certain prestigious cars that will piss on the rs6 with tuning mods and still well below that £20k budget....
Yeah absolutely - I will do some tuner videos in the near future to show cars that can easily be made to certain BHP figures, but for the sake of these vids I just stick to what's claimed by the manufacturer!
My friend bought a 2008 c63 amg for only £18,000. The second hand car market in the UK is ridiculously cheap.
That's insane - honestly we have it so good in the UK in terms of second hand cars!
Good that you are mentioning maintenance etc and from UK perspective. Just put a strap line on your videos and it will save you having to repeat it all of the time

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the 2009 and below jaguar xkrs have the 4.2 v8 and make 420hp while the face lifted 2010+ models have the 5.0 liter with 510 hp and goes 0-60 in just 3.9?
Yeah I think the supercharged 5.0 came around in 2009 - the but in terms of 0-60 I just used the slightly more conservative stats from Parkers as they tend to be fairly reasonable! The XKR-S might do 3.9 though, I wouldn't be surprised
Audi RS4 B5 is super cheap however it does "only" have 450 whp so I guess around 500 brake

All great cars, except maybe the continental GT.. More a boat, albeit a very quick boat. I've driven my mates and just didn't enjoy it, except for the raging head rush when you floor it and it takes off like a scalded cheetah. My mate drove my XKR the same day and a month later part exed the GT for an XkR 150.. I would drive a little Polo, save up an extra 5K, take 6 months to a year to do it and you will be able to pick up an early DB9 with about 70K on it. Some with that mileage are under 30K now and getting cheaper by the day..
Haha yeah the GT is huge, and fair enough if you didn't enjoy when driving! That said I find the X150 to be pretty massive too - I'm always surprised by the size of it. Both super nice cars imo though. And yeah, the DB9 would be huge goals, I think for the money though I'd probably save a little further and look into getting an Exige S3
Cars With JB trying to fold yourself in and out of an exige on a daily basis would be useful only if you're a Yoga sensei.. Otherwise a twice weekly sports physio session would need to be added to the running costs..And the GT is so big it creates its own gravitational field, but travels faster than light..

Its hard to believe the M5/M6 was only available in the US with a manual gear box. You would think if any market only had an optional manual gear box it would be Europe. I mean don't get me wrong, I love manuals and the M5 but manual gears boxes are fading away faster than the dinosaurs in this country.

s13 with a 500cc injection, air intake, gtx28 turbo, good map, 3"inch exhaust. Boom youre done. Dont drive it at full boost all the time and the car is reliable and pushes 400bhp

JB, No one can use 500 bhp on UK roads unless they are nuts; do one for 200 or 300 bhp
Agreed - my experience driving very fast road cars has generally made me just wish I was on track and able to use it!
cl63 amg looks the best BY FAR, w211 is still good though
Fair enough, I definitely really like the way it looks! But tbh they're all not too bad, imo maybe the S600L is a little too boring but other than that they're all quite nice 🤙🏽
Cars With JB to be fair the S class (non amg) was never meant to look sporty or exciting, should be subtle but have a presence

An e60 M5 out of warranty is like buying a car with a time bomb set and just seeing how long you can enjoy the car before it blows up in your face. Now cut the timer in half if you have an SMG version
I suppose there has to be a reason why you can get the car for under 10 grand - it's obviously a beast but agreed I'd be very worried about reliability - my uncle's E63 M6 broke down about a year ago and he hasn't touched it since 🤷🏽♂️
Cars With JB they are grenades. You buy them cheap, have a bit of fun and sell it hopefully before it dies. Buying one is playing Russian roulette with you being the third owner and the one who it dies on and is out 10-20k before you could sell it to the next person who disregards the critical failure points in this cars design
