    As a Liverpool fan, what this proved is just how good Messi really was. Absolutely carried that team without Iniesta and xavi. He could do everything on his own. He was the man of the match in that game at Anfield by a country mile and every time he picked up the ball I was scared shitless but also in awe of his talent. It’s the biggest compliment to us that our team were good enough on the day against the one man Messi. The greatest footballer of all time!

    Somebody said Messi's a system player, but what Messi did in the 2018/19 season will not be repeated. As a Barca fan, one of our worst Barcelona teams that almost won a treble simply because of Messi and even Ter Stegen, but Messi was obviously him.

    • @HassanIbrahim-h7i
      @HassanIbrahim-h7i 4 months ago +4

      Ter Stegen was horrible, even in this game. Ginis shot is central, the first goal he blocked it perfectly for Origi to tap it in. And the 4th goal sleeping alongside the defence. None of that Ter Stegen crap please. If we had Allison and they had Ter Stegen we would have made the final

    • @ridoxxx_0030
      @ridoxxx_0030 2 months ago +2

      @HassanIbrahim-h7iplus he didnt even attempt to dive for the third goal and the second goal was shot at the center and he can't reject the ball from going in. Watching that match again this night ter stegen deserves the most blame for the team missing the final. This was one of his worst matches ever...

    I don't think true Liverpool fans would ever disrespect Messi, even on nights like that. He's the best that ever kicked a ball. It made our win all the more great because he was there. He showed us great respect after the first game because he knew the score flattered Barcelona. His performances were never in question.

      I think we Liverpool fans have a healthy respect for Barcelona generally and Messi in particular. But the fact remains that after Xavi left in 2015, Barcelona never won another CL even with Messi. Iniesta's leaving in 2018 just added to further misery in their series of failed attempts.

      @ufukkiblat as a Messi fan myself I’d love if he came back. But let’s be realistic. He just wouldn’t be able to keep up. And the game nowadays, at the top level, requires high work ethic. Forwards are required to always put pressure. He still has his magic touch, he just doesn’t have speed or work ethic.

    This was the season that solidified Messi’s goat status, proving beyond doubt that he wasn’t a system player and could do it all on his own. He had everything; dribbling, finishing, long balls, playmaking and set pieces.
    No Xavi, no Iniesta, no Neymar, a downgraded Suarez and a manager with no tactics. Considering how easy of a final they would’ve had against Tottenham, Messi was quite literally 1 goal away from carrying the worst ever Barcelona team to a treble.

    • @patcisz3474
      @patcisz3474 8 months ago +78

      Messi was even by far the best player in the Copa del rey final and his teammates let him down again which should put all of them into eternal shame. I am a firm believer that Barcelona wasted Messi's prime years.

      @fivestarman5130 7 months ago +8

      @patcisz3474 I think that's a bit of an overstatement. Even after the decline that gradually set in after 2015, Barcelona were still successful on a domestic level. Three La Liga titles and four Copa del Reys between 2015/16 and 2020/21 is not awful by any means. A lack of European success was unfortunate but he still won four Champions Leagues with Barcelona and was their best player for three of them
      An example of a club wasting a players peak years would be Liverpool and Steven Gerrard. After 2006 he only won 1 more trophy with Liverpool and that was the League Cup against Cardiff in 2012

    A leader without soldiers There is no other explanation for this season, which ended in what could have been a one-man treble, this is my hardest season as a Barca fan, even more than the 2011/2012 season, where we were also supposed to at least win the UCL. There is a cure for this, if Messi takes the 2026 World Cup, it will heal the pain for me (and I'm sure for many other fans) of both 2012 and 2019.🙏🙏

    Messi obviously had great players around him during his career but since the 14/15 treble and towards his final years at Barca he also had some absolute mediocrity around him. Just a few names below:
    Managers: Tata Martino, Setien, Koeman.
    PLAYERS: Boateng, Mathieu, Douglas, Sandro Ramirez, Martin Braithwaite, Trincao, Semedo, Raphinha, Junior Firpo, Alcacer, Malcom, Lenglet, Yerry Mina, Digne, Aleix Vidal, Andre Gomes, Munir El Haddadi, Bartra, Denis Suarez, etc.
    Add the “flop” big name signings to this as well: Griezmann, Coutinho, Dembele.
    It’s a huge task to compete & win the CL when there’s so many things wrong decisions being made by the board. Messi did everything he could during those years. That’s why that missed Dembele chance hurt him so much. Everyone knew that chance would’ve changed everything.

      Liverpool did not play that game to stop Messi. It was just that Messi was the only Barcelona player that was actually doing anything. The other Barcelona players did not even try; they thought they were already in the final. Barcelona lost that game because they forgot that Liverpool had a team and don't rely on just one player.

    • @Alden4
      @Alden4 8 months ago +1

      @MarcusDobson-m4i “... but still messi striked fear in their team” No. Liverpool players do not fear other players. They show respect and aware of their skills and what they can do. Understand what the word fear means. If Liverpool players feared other players, they would become submissive and not compete. They would become scared and allow a player, such as Messi to dominate and win. Did you think watching that game that both Henderson and Fabinho 'feared' Messi? No, I don't think so.
      Did Barcelona 'fear' Liverpool on the night? According to the context you are using the word fear, obviously they did not.

    • @florinungurianu
      @florinungurianu 8 months ago

      @Alden4yes they did! Look at the video, there is always AT LEAST 3 players in front of him, sometimes even 5. What are you on about? They created tactics to stop him so yes, from that point of view they were scared of what he could do.

    • @thanekrios3211
      @thanekrios3211 8 months ago +5

      Just my personal opinion, but the greatest Liverpool comeback is still Istanbul for me. Although we were missing Bobby and Mo against Barca, we still had a very good team, whereas the dependency in raw talent between us and Milan in 2005 was huge in most positions. Few believed pre-match that we even had a chance, let alone be capable of overcoming a 0-3 defecit in 45 minutes to go on and win it.

      @thanekrios3211i agree. 4 nil vs Barca is our best night at Anfield but Instanbul is something else. That Milan team was full of legends. Cafu, Maldini, Seedorf, Pirlo, Kaka, Shevchenko etc. Best comeback ever

      @SombreroFlicks  8 months ago +8

      That Milan seemed absolutely unstoppable when Crespo joined that year, to complete a deadly front line. For me it was the biggest UCL night ever for Liverpool, Milan was by far the best team on paper, with Anceloti on the wheel too.

    • @I_am_nobody999
      @I_am_nobody999 8 months ago +17

      His position is, at that time, a European champion. Is it disrespectful? Yes. But his job was to stop the best player of the game that has ever graced a football pitch. He's just a small lad from Scotland. How can he go up against the most gifted individual player to ever exist and not be made to look a fool? He has to get inside Messi's head. He has to show he isn't scared. He has to disrespect him. What he did was crude, but it was the right thing to do. Football is the beautiful game, but it isn't always pretty. Robertson understands this, because he is a winner, and plays with a winning mentality.

As a Liverpool fan watching Messi in this game was poetry - watching Messi loose a game 4-0 was like watching M Jordan loose a basketball playoff or like watching Usian Bolt loose a race , or like watching Hamilton loose a championship in the final race . When I speak about the truly great sportsman, Messi is sitting at a table with the likes of M Ali, babe Ruth , Fangio ,Michael Schumacher, m Jordan , Michael Phelps , m Johnson .
