- Of all the mods currently available across the Total War franchise some of the most popular mods are set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Third Age for medieval 2 is played by thousands of people, Rise of Mordor for Attila once the campaign is complete and released, I guarantee will bring thousands more people back to the game.
It’s such a popular genre, so much so that I think a future official Lord of the Rings Total War would absolutely smash the Warhammer games in sales and in a consistent playerbase. Until then though we’ve got great mods to play out the setting including a Shogun 2 mod I’ll be spotlighting in today’s video.
The Last Alliance is a fantastic Lord of the Rings mod with a fully built custom campaign map, fantastic unique characters & breathtaking looking units and much much more & in this video I’m going to show you exactly why you need to give this brilliant mod a try.

I had no idea shogun 2 was this modeable, I would love to see more coverage of shogun 2 mods
Yeah I thought you couldn't edit the Shogun 2 map.
@@BouncyBoar Modders figured out campaign map editing just a few years ago (2018 or 19 iirc). It works for all the "warscape" engine games, but also requires a lot more effort compared to Rome/Medi 2, so only a handful of projects are really being worked on across all the "newer" games.
Anything lord of the rings really brings out a breath of fresh air into any total war franchise.. especially that it's now on Shogun 2. Was looking at this during it's budding days and now it's blooming beautifully as much as it should side by side with other LotR of mods from other total war games.
With just half of the campaign and many more to come, this feels like an entirely new game with many more campaigns to come.

Akkalabeth is a very great period of time!!. Silmarillion closed the book with Akkalabeth, and really convey the message that the downfall of Children of Iluvatar is not the Dark Lords but greed and pride
Its such a cool campaign too :)
there are some rough spots around the edges (like the Northmen having goblin voices, and a bunch of typos in the loading screen quotes) but the campaign map and all the unit models look incredible, and it has that lord of the rings FEEL. really excited for the next update to this mod, whenever it comes :]

If you think this is awesome you need to check out Divide and Conquer for Medieval 2. Absolute love letter to Tolkien. Best mod I've ever played of any game.

Just saying wow just wow what modder archive.
I mean people figure out how to mod the map in shogun 2 a while ago.
NOW mrj came extra back to create map creating tools, he told me after it he dissapear again but honestly creating these tools is more then enough done, that the attila modding community is deeply in his debt.
SO why i mention it?
is just show how much influnce and love lotr have in the total war community, i mean it is just such a big task to create these tools for a usualy not moddable part of shogun and atilla.
And they just do it so mods like these you review can exist on a map where is should be played

Its a great mod! There is too much effort in it but i wish we could've seen some custom castles-cities. I know even vanilla game has copy paste castles-cities but its breaking my morale that attacking-defending same looking walls etc.

What's the land in the bottom right of the map and why is it there ?
we got warhammer trilogy, maybe they planning LOTR trilogy or smthing.
The only thing which makes me reluctant is remembering how awful Shogun 2's performance is once battles start to involve full stacks.
I suggest disable shadows - not affect too much on graphic and give huge performance boost ;)

How do you like actually download a mod? I don’t understand this kind of stuff and I’ve tried so many mods before and have never been able to get one to work :/

@@immasword If people don't read FAQ/Installation Guide/Known bugs/Roadmap and instead they bother me it's kinda rude, don't you think?
Other type of rude people it these who periodically write to me with the same things and seems that completly ignore my words.
It's annoying when I have to read dozens of times "Why aren't wildmen playable?" or "I want new siege maps now!" or similar things and I think that it's nothing surprise that my patience is limited.

Shogun 2 cities for now but it's in the works :)

Any idea if the modders are also able to change the siege maps? So it doesn't take place in a Japanese castle?
It's definitely cool, but the Japanese temples and voices are just too immersion killing
I agree. Also these numenoreans, elves and orcs who talking in english are killing immersion.
@@SaraTemer it would be nice if you could change but if something like that is impossible the mod looks absolutely amazing coming from a lotr nerd that has hours upon hours playing DaC. I am looking forward to play it amazing job.
@@billarasPAOK You know, my comment above was sarcasm. In mod is a lot new voices (mostly from BFME and other Total War) and only in campaign map is still some japanese voices because I didn't have time for them yet.
I wrote this comment because it funny for me that japanese voices "killing immersion" but english voices in BFME and other LotR games and also english voices in most part of LotR movie not. You know, people in Middle-Earth don't talk in english xD (rohirric language is close to english as I know, but even this is close to old english, not current one)
I'm afraid your attitude here makes you come across as quite knavish. It is perfectly understandable that someone would find it immersion breaking to hear Japanese voices in a world that has been presented us entirely in English (only a minute is in various forms of Elvish). A work is tied to the language is was written in, it is how people connect to it, and how the work coveys itself. To dismiss this because the races of Tolkien's legendarium speak their own languages is acting in a unwanted way.
Judging by your profile picture I'm sure you are well acquainted with the discussion in the anime community in how English dubs ruin their immersion, well the same is true here. I understand miss you must be beleaguered and would find it quite irritating to have someone air the their criticisms openly for all to bear witness but this should not allot a space in your heart to act in such a manner.

The mod is amazing , just you still have still the japanese fortress this is a bit disturbung , but the gameplay of the mod is great 😊
I am big fan of DAC mod for med 2 but this mod have amazing future! map is huge units are awesome and mod is runing on shogun2 one of best game ever! After watching the ROP episode, and seeing Nuemonor for the first time, I then looked up Pope John Paul's video, and then was watching couple of lore videos based on ROP - and then your video convinced me to try this mod!
Does it take forever to build armies and economy here, like the third age mod for medieval 2? I really hated that you take forever to build an army, but the ai just spawns them instantly when you besiege them. AI cheats are ok, but at least be creative about it. Invasion events where an uber army of several full stacks coming out from a cave/river/allied border is more fun than an instant full garrison everytime they get besieged.
Third age also moved so slow, it's like the world was populated by lethargic people.
No, campaign isn't so slowly like in Third Age and there almost no AI cheats (I disabled even vanilla AI cheats). There's garrisons, but for both, player and AI and you need additional building to get stronger garrisons. In general, campaign is much more dynamic than in Third Age

Well I'm finishing my new DeI Backtria campaign and I have to give this mod a try.
As an architect I would love to get involved in helping with city building and planning

In Shogun 2 case, main tools to edit campaign map was release as part of official modding kit. As I know, some modders tried to use these tools in ETW/NTW but without succes.
However, Shogun 2 has better gunpowder battles than ETW/NTW and there is no problem to move Shogun campaign to Europe in 1700. Of course if will be people who want to do it.
