    Wow, my old shop teacher would have had a fit if he saw me banging a piece of metal on the miller bed to clear the chips.

    James, that looks like an ER type collet chuck you have there. If you really wanted to start the cross hole with a centre drill (and that is a *good* idea) you can swap out the collet for one that fits the centre drill, and not have to worry about the jaws in your drill chuck making it run off centre.
    Just sayin'...

    James, what type of cutting fluid were you using on the initial spot drill? Not seen red style before. Thanks, Joe

      JC S I have a bottle of cutting oil thinned a bit with Marvel Mystery Oil during the winter months helps it flow .
