'Kuruma' is rather 'vehicle', or 'cart', but the full name of a car is 'jidousha'- 自動車 where 自 is self-, 動 is moving and 車 - here as 'sha', not kuruma is a vehicle. So car is 'self-moving-cart':) and boat isn't 船- fune in Japanese? We can every Japanese word transcript into English one in Katakana, but it isn't a learning of the language!
@megtheultimate182 To make it easier, try to memorize complex kanji in terms of their component characters (radicals). The ki (機) in 飛行機, for example, can be divided into 木 and 幾, which can be further broken down if it helps you.
Why do the Japanese use the modified english word for boat?!? They're an island nation! They just HAD to have a medieval word for boat they no longer use.
