One thing is clear: Safety on Roblox is abysmal, but is it right to pin all of the blame on the moderators themselves, or are there other forces at work? In this video, we explore ways Roblox can solve this problem through a collective effort from users, employees and investors alike.

Hey Ruben, there is something I know about Roblox's management of mods from an anonymous user. He explained that Roblox Mods are extremely underpaid (like $2/hr), high expectations and pressure, and obviously undertrained. As I know, some or a lot of mods are from India and only know not very much English and training. I don't know if it is in a specific country, but I know that the person who explained to people on reddit had proof that he worked there.
He remained anonymous, so Roblox won't sue him.

I think what Ruben means by the title is that we blame moderators for things we contribute to. As customers we consume products that we pay for/use, ex. Roblox players playing Roblox and buying Robux. When problems arise, as customers we believe its right to 'protest' or speak out against decisions that we don't like but with big corpo's like ROBLOX that just doesn't affect them. The only tool we have to combat ROBLOX and get them to listen to us is by holding back our wallets and not feeding into ROBLOX's careless and evil actions.
Edit: After watching the video and understanding where Ruben is coming from. I would like to add onto this comment and say that I appreciate the attention this has gotten, and that yes moderators are overworked with their estimated numbers and the conditions they have to get accustomed to before turnover happens is terrible for the company. About the exact topic of the video, I was off about but I'm still glad many people shared my views and supported this comment.
Roblox time and time again has had terrible incidents occur on their platform and do next to nothing. All branches of ROBLOX's staff, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Finance, Trust and Safety, everyone gets a piece of the filthy pie which is their paychecks. I would be disgusted knowing that as an Employee under Roblox I was taking a paycheck from such a horrid company that makes a mockery out of child safety and laughs in the faces of victims of grooming and other abdominal acts. As this has gone on, Roblox users ignore these facts and instead have short attention spans only doing what is entertaining to them and not what's right. Do some users (youtubers) require this flow of content making to sustain their lives? Yes! But that doesn't excuse ignoring the red flags and endorsing a site as disgusting as ROBLOX.
What is the solution? Be self-aware, do not let your wants overcome your morals. There needs to be a right and wrong, we've determined that but undermine it as Roblox users. Once you've figured out the problem, do what's best to combat it. Realize we are blinded and need to say no to Roblox and prevent their revenue from growing.
Think its because of people who decide what gets banned and what doesn't.

To summarize, the video is about the fact that the higher ups in roblox are to blame due to poor management and protection of their consumer base rather than the moderators who are understaffed and overworked.
He's not trying to say every moderator is an angel. No, there are definitely bad apples. And to the people saying they lost their accounts due to poor moderation, that definitely sucks but that isn't what Ruben is trying to say. He's saying to hold the executives accountable for leaving their website as an unprotected cesspit rather than blaming moderators who have barely any power in the grand scheme of things.

I mostly said this due to the number of comments expressing their woes in regards to the moderation team. And what happened to them sucked and I agree that the admins were in the wrong in those cases, I feel like they didn't understand what Ruben was genuinely saying.
Yeah, I know how managers get hired. They get hired because of years of experience, but years of experience don’t mean anything if you’re garbage at the job. But Roblox doesn’t care as long as they manage the moderators. And this isn’t just Roblox, every company is like this.

I've been going around recently and reporting the said "pedo" accounts and have gotten over 13 banned so far. And it didnt take me long to realize that the roblox moderation teams numbers simply didnt add up. The amount of accounts, assets, and other things that are created per day are insanely high. For a mere 1,600 people to manage the thousands upon thousands of things per day seemed a little tiring, overworking, and stressing. Im really glad you took the time to show this and bring this into the light of the public. We seriously do owe the moderation team an apology

Huge video man, brings to light some of the core problems that the roblox playerbase never knew of. It’s not a good look on the moderators for me when I was warned twice now for simply saying “gg” (good game), however now, considering the conditions, I can see how this kind of thing happens

I've always tried my best to report accounts that obviously break Roblox's guidelines (Scamming, genuine harrassment, etc.) The main issue I see is that you don't get any like email or notice that your report has gone through, and is being reviewed (Or the account was successfully struck down) which might largely be part of why people think reporting doesn't work.
because theres 200 million roblox users, all the reports are managed by AI, the real roblox staff focus on stuff like european reports or support tickets, in cases like reporting games they're mostly managed by staff
The thing is, I could never fathom roblox being shut down however if this continues it might happen, there are plenty of good games the put AAA devs to shame (guts & blackpowder, centuria, dead ahead, ect. ect.) But if roblox shuts down purely due to something on their hands, thousands of games are lost, and may never come back

I've said this SO MANY FUCKING TIMES. the reason moderation is garbage is not because of MODERATION but rather how the QUANTITY of items that need to be moderated. Roblox has a hundred million players every single day. Imagine hundreds, thousands of reports per minute. Hundreds of case by case exploiter and game reports that require manual evaluation. It's INSANE. No currently developed A.I could deal with something like this. Even a 99.99% perfect accurate AI will still result in thousands of false bans. My god when will these little roblox kids UNDERSTAND this.

You are right about one thing, this is reality. Many people don’t understand how much stress moderation truly is. If you want the basic rundown of the situation of any for, of moderation. You are one, among maybe a few or maybe hundreds of moderators at best. You can’t possibly counter every single predator, act of erp, or inappropriate activity every single time no matter how big the moderator team is.

I knew Roblox had a small real moderation team, but didnt expect it to be 1,600
I used to and still do rp in TWD rp. I am 15 now. At the time this took place I was around 13. There was a man that would rp, known as Jospeh Seed. He rped a cult in TWD called Eden's Gate, a straight up copy of Far Cry 5. At the time, he was very prominent in the game. The mods knew who he was, most of the playerbase did too. This man was about 18-20, though what he claimed his age was vary often. He would hit on many girls, that were 16-14, often. Eventually the mods of the game banned him, and then banned him again, and again. He was apparently IP banned, and I haven't seen him sense. One of my good friends that is a female could also testify of this. She was 14 at the time. Roblox does not care if its off platform, most of these events took place over Discord. I feel bad for the whole moderation team, being worked down to the literal bone without any chances, I always thought they just outright replaced the entire team with AI, I didn't realize they decided to keep few and work them so heavily.
Also I know this is completely off topic but I did not expect to see footage from literal years ago, since that footage at 8:27 is from atleast 2-5 years ago back when I used to play that game as a jetpack seller LMAO. There are two kinds of moderation in Roblox. Manual moderation and automatic moderation.
If you wanna talk manual moderation, it’s bullshit. Plain and simple. The admins that get hired in real life and paid a salary in dollars just do not care about their jobs enough. Right now I can think of one specific situation out of all the other ones out there.
This story is not lacking roblox fame, find a veteran player and he will most likely know about it. I’ll be telling you the story like I heard it.
This is about a roblox developer named 1dev2, who made what used to be one of the most used free models in Roblox. The ones who have seen it might know it as the “Town of Robloxia”. Right when 1dev2 made the model, it was private, but somehow another guy called JuliusColes grabbed a copy and claimed the model was his and 1dev2 stole it.
And what did the roblox staff do?
They closed both accounts. Sent both accounts to shit and considered it over with. After that, 1dev2 created another account, 1dev3, and he’s still developing to this day. This guy’s a legitimate roblox relic, I have a lot of admiration for him.
JuliusColes, following his full time professional asswipe career, created a youtube channel and he’s still throwing shit at people to this day, hoping to get the attention his parents denied him.
To me, this is the best example that roblox staff are not to be trusted. That’s why whenever anyone brings out the topic, I tell them the same thing. Don’t trust them. You need help with anything, you can ask other players that you trust. But if you NEED their help, consider it as a last resource.
Now if you wanna talk automatic moderation, it’s almost the same thing, with the difference that you don’t have as many chances of getting screwed over than with manual moderation.
But don’t let the fact that it’s a robot or an algorithm fool you, these also experience major fails frequently, the best and most common example being the chat moderation, known as hashtags. I don’t think I have to tell you about that.

Once upon a time, there were two developers there main focuse was creating a physics engine for kids. After a couple of years, they realized the more people there was on their platform the more money they can make. Same thing happened with vrchat used to be small once it got big they became the next corporate company.

I, too, have witnessed this problem, as I have gotten 2 1 day bans and a one week ban from not doing anything that is really going to genuinely hurt anybody. I actually got one of those bans for say ing "imagine hating furries". I hope that the moderation team gets better and starts making better bans.

i made a roblox account way back in 2009 and had a blast with it. i was one of the unfortunate ones to have been groomed years ago on there, and that's why it's such a... not necessarily uncomfortable experience in current day, i'm just having way less fun than i remember. i log on for maybe one game a month at most and play for probably 30 minutes to an hour before stopping because it brings back too many memories, good or bad. thank you Ruben, for shedding light on an issue that's been going unnoticed for years. and thank you for your service to safety in roblox
I've met the CEO and some of people on the Board of Directors on roblox and they seem to be unbelievably unaware of what happens on their platform. 99% of CEOs dont pay attention and are told what to say and do by other people who do know whats happening but only care about getting paid to make the company look good.
