    With the tessera sanitaria, a doctor has access to your health data anywhere in case of an emergency. Also in some regions you can see the results of your medical exams directly from home without going to collect them at the hospital. And in pharmacies it's useful for taxes, since you can deduct a share of the cost of your medicines when you have to pay taxes. Beyond that it's also a codice fiscale, so it's really multi-purpose and very useful in everyday life.

    Hello: We are 4 African American's who lived and studied in Italy many years ago. After we retired we yearn to bring back those glory days by doing a house swap for one year. Swapping our condo in San Diego, CA for an Italian equivalent for one year in Tuscany. We are concerned with getting the appropriate long-term VISA and health Insurance for that year. We use to travel on cruise ship having taken 3 world cruises of 130 days each. We think cruising has become very unsafe; cruise ships are much more expensive and have become a Petri dish for all kinds of diseases known and unknown. This will be our Wonder Year Pensionamento Sabattical -2022. What do we need to do, after the 'madness' of course?

    I hope this video isn't too old to get a reply. Is it possible (and easy) to get a Tessera Sanitaria if I don't live in Italy yet? I just got my citizenship surprisingly fast in spite of being a 1948er (it was only a 3 week wait from when the case was submitted to the Italian courts till my decision giving me citizenship) and I'm waiting for the paperwork to be done so I can get a passport and, once that is done, I would like to get the TS card so I have it when I finally move there. If you don't know, is there a site or place I can ask questions like this (the slightly more obscure questions)? Thanks!!!!

    Thanks for this great video. I arrived in Italy from the UK as a UK citizen to start a teaching job in a primary school in Padova at the end of October 2020. As instructed ahead of Brexit, I registered my residency application on 20th Dec by email, with my work contract, lease, ID, payslip and completed forms so fingers crossed for that. I was under the impression I can now register for the Italian health card as a resident (even though I may not have the actual residency certificate yet). In your opinion is that correct, given that residency should be valid from the date it was submitted, rather than approved? NB: when you email your residency application, you don't receive a receipt so the only way to prove you submitted it is to show your sent items in your email inbox (!) Looking forward to hearing from you on this as I would be less anxious knowing I have health cover in the current pandemic climate, especially as a school teacher.
    Matt

      Hi Rob,
      when it comes to home ownership this is a subject I know less than i would like to know.. but my assumption is that if you're not working here and only here only with a permesso, that you probably would need to pay into the system. However I don't know for sure.

    Hello Rafael, so in case you are not living in Italy anymore and you move to another European country, do you have to inform the health insurance in Italy that you not living there anymore? And if you don’t tell them what’s the consequences. Thank you

    • @RafaelDiFuria
      @RafaelDiFuria  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Andrew,
      That would depend on your legal status in the country. As far as I know for Italian citizens they need to register for a special card referred to as “T.E.A.M.”
      However for people with other nationalities I’m really unsure of the situation what I would highly recommend is to contact the local health authority where the person was registered in the system and speak directly do them. I wouldn’t recommend it but the other possibility if the person in question had a limited time that their visa and heath documents were valid that it could be possible to let them all expire. However that probably wouldn’t be the best idea and in an ideal situation it would be best to approach the office before leaving the country.

    Can you make a video about internet in the house or apartment with fiber optic? My cousin in Rimini got fiber with Tim very fast gigabit so I was wondering if all of Italy has this?

    • @RafaelDiFuria
      @RafaelDiFuria  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the idea, I’ll have to think if there’s a way I can make a larger video on the subject, because the answer is pretty short. Just like in the US, it depends on where you are, the prices are always changing and so are the services. The only website that I’ve found that gives any indication of where fiber is available doesn’t have the best information and you need to use a specific address.
      But the system that is slightly different from the US, is getting mobile phone/service.

    Hi Rafael, it's interesting to know that in Italy ...
    Health care for illegal foreigners
    Disciplined by Legislative Decree 286/98 art. 35 and Ministry of Health Circular 19/2/2008 for EU citizens.
    All illegal foreigners are recognized and guaranteed the right to access to treatment. They will benefit from the treatment through the provision of the Stp code - Temporarily present foreigners. The card is issued following a simple declaration of personal details, is valid throughout the national territory and has a duration of six months, renewable. It can be issued by the ASL, by hospitals, scientific research and care institutes and university polyclinics. The Stp card allows you to make a declaration of indigence for exemption from paying the health ticket. Access to the health facilities of an irregular foreigner does not involve reporting to the police authorities except in cases where a report is required. The undocumented foreigner will be provided with all urgent outpatient and hospital care and in any case essential, even if continuous, due to illness and injury, and preventive medicine programs are extended in his favor. In particular, the law recognizes: the protection of pregnancy and maternity, the protection of the health of minors, vaccinations in the context of collective prevention interventions, international prophylaxis interventions, prophylaxis and treatment of infectious diseases.
    :-)

    I will be traveling to Potenza and Napoli for two weeks. I'm trying to decide whether to purchase travel health insurance. What is the policy in Italy for treating foreigners who need a hospital admission? Travel health insurance is crazy money for a two week stay.

      Check out World Nomad Insurance
      www.RafaelDiFuria.com/nomadworld (this is a referral link just to be upfront)
      As far as I know, a person can never be turned away from the emergency room here. The worst that I've heard that can happen is that you might need to pay out of pocket, however including ambulance I've never heard of somebody paying more than €120... yes everything iincluded even x-rays. I would personally check out the link above and see if that looks right for you. As far as I'm aware a person only coming here on a tourist visa wouldn't be able to sign up for the national service, and I believe the minimum amount of time a person has to be here to be able to use the services is for 3 months but I think the minimum amount of time that can be paid for is 6 months. However with World Nomad Insurance you can choose a much shorter period of time.

    Ciao Rafael......I am an Italian dual citizenship. I own a property in Italy. I only stay in Italy for 3-4 months per year. I do not have an Italian drivers license and I do not want to get one. I have been told that, only if I am a registered resident, that I will not be able to use my South African drivers license after a year as a resident. I have also been told that getting a carta d''identita, means that I have to get an Italian drivers licence after 12 months. So, here is my question - am I obliged to get a carta d''identita under my circumstances and am I obliged to register as a resident if I let the comune know that I am staying in my apartment every year for 3 or 4 months?

    • @conor20118

    • @donkeymarco

      You could register yourself in the "Anagrafe Italiani residenti all'estero" (A.I.R.E.). But I am not sure = italians that are resident in a foreign country. Maybe You are already registered. Ask to italian consulate in South Africa they know better than the ones in italians municipalities.
      If You live in Italy less than 183 days per year in Italy, You are NOT fiscally resident.
      You can use your driving license, but You have to get in South Africa the "International Drivers Permit".

      It’s really only for if you live in Italy, you are supposed to be able to apply through the local health care authority for coverage if you’re in Italy for a short stay. But the coverage in the second case is only good in Italy if I’m not mistaken.

      The CF is based on the details that were relevant at your time of birth (assuming you haven’t had a name change) since those details should not have changed then you should probably never have a need. Maybe in a very rare set of unique circumstances. But extremely unlikely.
