On the flip side of that, it's one of the biggest reasons why adult children protect and go all out to make sure their parents are happy and comfortable in their golden years, no matter what illness etc happens. RIH Mom. I still think of you every day.

@@Arthur5260 you are very complacent. “No matter what illness”? You don’t know much about how dementia can go, do ya? My mother, most of the time, when she didn’t know who we were, she would fake it a bit. As the youngest, it seemed she forgot who I was first. I’d be halfway through washing the floor and she would demand to know who I was and what I was doing in her house. My sister who lived closest, who took her to her chiropody, dental, audiology etc appointments, the one who noticed the radiator leak and got the plumber in - she was the one who my mother barred from the house because she started seeing her as some interfering intruder, maybe a busybody social worker or something.
My other brother stayed over to try to help stabilise her and get her on her meds (he had been a psychiatric nurse) but she woke up at 4am and “discovered” a terrifying stranger in her home.
      What illness DOES matter.

Same here. I stopped contact with my parents on my 40th birthday, am now 68, because of the verbal abuse that day. There had been verbal and physical abuse right up until then. I was very upset when they passed as I dearly wanted them to love me, to no avail. Afterward, I learned they took me out of their will which I expected. I did not expect that they would attach an affidavit stating what an awful and ungrateful person I was. I cannot understand how parents could be so cruel. And now I have no recourse to confront them and tell them what I think of all this. I am sorry this happened to you as well.

She left us alone for days, and weeks at a time. I ended up at my aunt and uncles for a year (4th grade) and my sister who is 18 months younger than me lived with our grandpa and step grandma…that was the most stable time in my life until I moved to my dad and step moms when i as in 5th grade. Because I was eating my mashed potatoes and gravy with a spoon instead of my fork. I am 64 now other abuse and this has stuck with me all this time. I really empathize with that little girl. I bet she will be in jail and not be able to complete probation. My mother in law works for the probation office and many people end up in jail anyway. Sometimes its better to just go to jail than to be on probation.

Some of minor infractions which had there probation time extended but if they completed the extended probation it would still count as a completed probation within jail. Probation is your second change and it bewilders me how many people are screwing that up. After each sentencing Boyd asks any defendant if they need anything else to be successful. In the early 1950s, at age 3, my abusive mother dragged me over to a strange woman in the airport yelling that I'd have to live with her, since I was such an awful child, and she walked away. It was 20 min. before someone found her. My offense? I wanted to stay at the window to watch my father's plane take off . . . the 1st plane I'd ever seen!
It traumatized me for life and was a warning of the verbal, physical & emotional abuse I was to endure at her hands for my entire life. She finally died in 1996 when I was 45 yr. old (I'm now 73).
