I was raised to judge a person by his character...not the color of his skin. In the current climate, many things are taken as racist & I refuse to bow to the narrative. I'm Native American. My culture's past doesn't determine my future, that's up to me.

If that's the way you think, you're going to hate this book and books like white fragility, Robin D'angelo calls Dr Martin Luther King an uncle tom in a few more words.

Based on the definition of Anti-Racist as purposed in this book, the same could be applied to ALL definitions. Meaning, there is no middle ground. Either you are FOR gun control or AGAINST gun control. You are either FOR abortion or AGAINST abortion. You are either FOR socialism or AGAINST socialism. There is no middle ground. You cannot be just a watcher of what is going on. You MUST be engaged in every cause. I'm not sure how I feel about this definition. The most difficult issue to address in all of these topics is where to acquire facts. ALL sides of these issues will present their bias as the facts but the statistics and all the information you can gather don't always draw the same conclusions. In addition, opinions aren't necessarily a good place to start when trying to learn about a given topic. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with any of these issues, but it's important we learn how to find facts for any given topic.

When I am confronted with reality that doesn't coincide with my worldview, I look at the data--preferably long term data on particular matter.

How do you personally treat people differently now that you are antiracist?
I found this book too vague to be useful to me personally, it would be interesting to know how it has specifically affected people who found it helpful.

@@sweetpotatoe19 that’s far too simple though, there are too many dimensions for equity to be a useful goal in these cases. The Kendi types are very materialistic though so equity usually means financial equity (occasionally health)
Lets use your example of cannabis prohibition. I live in a country where cannabis is legal and initially people thought that it was going to be a huge win for minorities because they were disproportionately the target of the laws used to prohibit cannabis. That seems to have worked to reduce arrests to a degree but still, equity has not been improved at all and might actually be worse.
When government regulates production, the compliance with these new laws is expensive. This makes it harder on small producers and the result is that a very small number of big corporations (especially ones with well established means of distribution) now control the majority of the sale. You probably can guess what colour and gender the owners of these these big companies that are profiting disproportionately from the new laws.
A black friend of mine was a medium to small time dealer and grower who lost some customers when it went legal. He was dependent on this cashflow which is bad for equity but so is doing illegal things so maybe it will turn out good for equity? Perhaps, but he recently started selling coke to make up for lost revenue which has been good for equity but it carries a stiffer penalty which would be bad for equity if he got caught… see what I mean?
I don’t think anti-racism is horrible in it’s conception but what I do know is that these people are most definitely not smart or curious enough to use it properly. There are way too many variables and people are far too biased to do this fairly, the blindspots can and will be disastrous for outcomes.

I thought the book was horribly written, based in logical fallacies and the reasoning was worse than you'd hear from a 4 year old caught with their hand in a cookie jar.
I know dozens of scholars who would love to publicly debate kendi but he won't. I know even more who would love to have a sit down talk with him to discuss his book but he won't meet with them either.
One of the legitimate scholars i wish he'd have a sit down with is Dr Voddie Baucham but that would NEVER happen because baucham is opposed to racism and kendi is pro racist while claiming to be "anti-racist".

The very first thing he did in the book was change the definition of racism. Then before he even begins the book he throws in a paragraph of lies, not to mention that he references his own work in this book. This whole thing is a lovely cash cow for people like this. It's like being taught equality by a KKK member.

The definition of racist in this book uses the word racist twice. That’s nonsense, and the rest of the book is axiomatic on that false definition. It’s a bad book.
