Everyone makes mistakes and we learn from it
Yeah. That is said as true as it is 😌
Unlucky, im sure almost all of us here who antkeep have just bought a colony without any research. Better luck nextime!
Thanks won’t make this stupid mistake again 😅😕
We all have made mistakes and some times killed a colony, but we always learn from our mistakes.
And that is the important part 😌
I love how honest you are! 🙏❤️
If the fly was from the wild then it might've had pesticides which would've killed them.
MinigunL5 Nah it was like this for a while i think they did not accept protein
It wasn’t from the wild. It was just a normal fruit fly but I think the queen just gave up 😕
3:35 The worker wasn't actually bitting. But more pushing. Bitting would be when the mendables would close.
Yeah I know. But I was scared that’s she tried to bite since it looked like it only was a near miss
I'm glad you made this video as i was considering getting a camponotus colony and it doesn't say on any of the websites about how easily stresses and hard to care for they are
Your welcome 😅😊
@@seppforcher4714 ?
10:06 thinking a bit about it. I do agree that you should do some research on your antspecies before you get your colony. However I would also accept it if you didn't do your research but ask for help and advice from someone more experienced than you in antkeeping or even better by having someone who keeps the same antspecies :)
But I my eyes that is still “research” just from a local source instead of a random person online
Ant Holleufer true. Point given 😂
I made the same mistake. I "forced" to move out of the test tube just because it was a bit dirty. it was too stressful for the queen. I should have keep them as much as possible there.
Luckily, the new nest is perfect for them and they are recovering.
Oh I’m glad that it turned out well 😌
Last year my first Camponotus vagus colony died (20 workers) cause I gave them a mosquito which was probably affected by an insecticide, so in 1 months all the worker died and the queen survived another month alone before she dead... What a poor colony, I loved them. Today a friend gave me another baby colony of this specie, I will never give mosquitoes to my ants for sure.
Thanks for sharing 😌😢
7:50 you gained a lot of experience about camponodus. That is the major thing you should take from this ;)
That is very true 🤔😌
I think many beginner ant keepers want to move their ants to a nest too quickly, it happend to me too when I started out
Campo's grow very slow, so for beginners they get frustrated with how slow they grow
Yeah. Many people say that’s it’s a good starter colony but I my eyes all new ant keepers want is to watch there new colony grow. Grow fast 🤔😅
6:30 What was wrong, was that you removed their testtube, without providing a new testtube that is dark or at least darkened to give the queen some privacy. I must admit I didn't pay full attention to the previous videos or I could have pointed that out as a possible solution for you. Might have saved your queen. :/
But it was good to move them out of the old testtube. No mistake here. You only need to provide a new testtube then instead for the colony to get their water and moisture from.
Yeah. I did actually give them a new test tube in their outworld but except for some workers drinking water they never moved down there. I’m guessing because they conditions in the new nest was bad. But not bad enough to move down but idk 🤷🏻♂️😕
With regards to your new setup, I'd be careful about the window behind you. A lot of backlight. 👍
Thanks for telling 😄🤔

That’s sad once I stressed one of my camponotus queens too much and she self starved 😢
Yeah they’re not that strong after a stress period
Similar thing with some harvester ants
😢😕
9:45 very experienced? I'd just say more experienced. ^^
There are always things to learn from our mistakes and I also prefer to think that there are new things to learn that only you can learn by thinking about your actions as an antkeeper. :)
Yeah this is true tho it was more to get a point out 😅
Wow sorry to hear that 😭😭😭 can I ask if you think camponotus ants are a good starter species because I’m wondering if I should gat them
Well I’d say they ain’t a good starter colony just because they grow so slow. I’m mean if your patient they are amazing because they are so big. But since the grow so slow I’d say no. You might end up loosing interest before they even have 50 workers
Ant Holleufer oh thanks sorry but another question do you have any good starter ants that aren’t lasius Niger ore lasius flavus
Myrmica rubra is by most people consider “beginner friendly” tho they can sting. I still haven’t gotten stung yet. Els maybe Formica fusca. They should also be okay as an starter colony 😊
Ant Holleufer thanks a lot that was a big help looking forward to more vids
Your welcome and thank you 😄
