I'm Dean Cherrington I am the Managing Director here at Crystal Design Ltd where we specialise in the design and construction installation of bespoke exhibition stands. On the board behind me you can see examples of some of our design work that has been carried out for businesses throughout the UK and Europe.
Some of our business has been won in the UK and consequently the stands has been installed around Europe we are essentially a family based business which we are very proud of I work alongside my father and my partner. If you will join me right now I will take you on a tour around our workshop and show you what it is we do around here.
Stock walling generally we have stock panels that are all a metre wide so if we understand that these 10 m long we will use 10 Stock Wall panels along the back of the wall to form a complete wall. We use leather grain, PVC, Gloss PVC, Suede's, Felt's and a whole host of assorted materials.
Ok, here we have Dave, putting a reinforcement pad into a stock panel at the moment that will be used where we hang things on the stock walling like plasma TVs without the paddingthe stock walling would not be strong enough to take the weight of a plasma TV. So we put reinforcement into the wall and that is what Dave is doing here at the moment.
Chris, is manufacturing a sales counter for Nikon Metrology Europe www.nikonmetrol... the carcass of the counter is made from MDF material the top surface is covered with a black matt laminate which you can see Chris working on at the moment.
Lee, is actually making an archway that goes into the corner join and supports the lighting panel to the upper part of the stand. The material that Lee is working with is routed MDF and it's being covered with Flexy grain plywood. The whole team work with plans we start off with a 3D render visualization of what we are trying to achieve that then gets broken down into a working drawing in 2D format with all the dimensions and everything else stated.
The lads then get copies of the 2D drawing which then exactly what it is they have to do and how to build the particular item that they are working on at that time. Lee in particular your notice here he has a laptop at the end of his workbench he uses Auto-CAD and we can actually send files straight from the laptop to a C&C router. So that all the different shapes and such all get part from the material at source.
Here you are looking at a couple of counters that come back from exhibitions the large white laminated one here is from CIENA www.ciena.com/s... and the smaller counter is from a company called Orascoptic UK www.orascoptic.... Companies do tend to use the same stands year after year. The video shows just a very small section of the stand when the stands come back to our workshop they get refurbished and put into storage and ready to be used again at a forthcoming event.
