  • This early wall clock is not only wonderful in the way it looks. It was made before the invention of the pendulum and is therefore being regulated by a foliot or balance. The rate can be adjusted by moving the small weights in or out. Personally I love that all the movement is visible and the slow motion of the balance has a mesmerizing effect. The clock was made in the tradition of the Gothic tower or turret clocks. The whole thing is made of iron and just realizing that all parts were forged amazes me a lot. The construction suggests that it was made around 1600. Gude & Meis antique clocks in Amsterdam.
