Saw this 8 years ago to learn the game, watching again to remember how to play. Best tutorial on this game and loved the quiz at the end. It's incredible, this video only has 70,000 views.
Very well done guys. This was the best ever tutorial for a board game I've ever seen. I am saying that because I spent an hour on the rule book and played my first ever game of Race for the Galaxy last night. So I am pretty up to date with the rules and I can tell the game could not be taught any better than this. I am your proud subscriber #158.
Awesome tutorial. I bought this game a year ago and I never played it because the rules seemed so confusing. This video did a great job of explaining everything. Can't wait to play this weekend!
Great video. I've got the game for a long while, but to my regret it has never really got into our regular rotation. This was a great way to get back into the rules.
Thank you so much! My friend came to visit from out of state and showed me this game. He explained and we played once due to time constraint. I liked it so I bought a copy of this game but I still needed help after I read the rule book. After watching this video, I understood how to play it! And I can't wait to play with my local friends!
I sent my friends your video to prepare for the epic game. :-) They heard about this game and want to play. We all love strategy games. Thank you again!
This was fantastic! I hope you are showing game companies your tutorials so that they might send you more games/support you. I look forward to watching more tutorials in the future!
This really is the superior tutorial for Race for the Galaxy. I did not have the benefit of this tutorial when I taught myself to play, and without any prior gaming experience to speak of, this game was very difficult to figure out. Looking at this tutorial, though, you have done a great job of explaining the action selection, phase actions and phase bonuses, scoring, etc. A very very fine job.
That was an amazing video, thank you, it really helped. Some other fella joked in his video that the game’s manual is like the instructions booklet for a washing machine and boy is that description accurate. 😆
Thanks Annie, that is awesome to hear and you have confirmed my primary goal of getting people to learn and play this game. I hope your gaming group takes to this game. Tell friends new to the game that the first couple plays just get you familiar with the game and then after that you will really start to enjoy it where you can then focus on your deeper strategy.
Hi Oscar, Thank you for your comments. That thought of doing a video on the expansions for Race for the Galaxy has been in the back of my mind. I haven't picked up either of these expansions yet, but would really like to in the up and coming months.
Just wanted to say thank you for an excellent tutorial! I bought this game for my friends and myself, but the rulebook wasn't quite clear to us on everything. Your tutorial video made everything crystal clear! Thank you very much!
Excellent and Thank you. I hope your game group takes to it. If you can get them through about two games, then they start to see the deeper strategy and they get hooked. It's just getting them over that hurdle. Let me know how it goes!
Very nice tutorial. The editing and text boxes are especially helpful. Would recommend scripting some of the more complicated audio instructions. Thanks for making it!
Thanks for the encouragement. Wow! I'm kind of speechless here! Comments like this, subscribers and spreading the word about these videos is great compensation and I may do a couple things along this line in the future. I am really enjoying making these and just ask that everyone spread the word and subscribe :-)
Thanks for the tutorial! Really, really well done. Rio Grande should recruit you for their next release, the same way Mice and Mystics did with Watch It Played. I feel like I'm fully prepared to introduce Race for The Galaxy into game night tomorrow :D
Thanx for a great rule runthrough, much easier than reading the rulebook. (not written in the best order, and a Little messy i think..) // Nall Peter, Sweden
You're right! there should be a Green card there for either one of the red cards. I think I used two reds by accident as this was one that I had the graphic for both II and V phases
Yep, you got it, just reshuffle. It seems most games we're re-shuffling and when that happens, I think "Yes, now I might get the card I was looking for"!
Mr. Kraus. Thanks to your tutorial I have been able to play several games with family and friends, and so far, we love it. However, we have arrived to a point where we want to variety to our sessions. We are using all cards from The Gathering Storm and Rebel vs. Imperium, as well as some cards (the ones not related to prestige or take overs) from The Brink of War , but we would like to understand the rules for takeovers. Are you planning to make another video reviewing the current expansions?
Hi Annie, I think I will pick up more expansions soon. Going to Origins Game Fair next weekend and will check the Rio Grande both for good deals on these. Don't know how long it will be before I get to the expansions, but definitely something I will be looking at
So for the hostile worlds, you only need military strength and not need to pay price (discard)? Also when you explore/consume/produce, does it matter if you pickup in a certain order? I assume the produce phase wouldn't matter since the card is faced down but explore/consume would matter?
yes one strategy of the game can be go military. Then all your planets don't cost cards because you only buy military planets. Consume phase order matters. For instance if you have two planets with consume powers. One consumes brown, one consumes ANY. And you have to production planets. One make blue, one makes brown. If you get hit with consume you have two options. You can consume blue with the any, and then consume brown with the brown. If you want to save a card however you can consume BROWN with ANY and now your blue can't be consumed so it stays till next round.
Does production carry between rounds then? Ex if someone makes the Production phase happen but, say, for three rounds nobody plays Consume do we all just keep our production sitting in wait? Also, can we then stack production repeatedly? Example - someone plays Production 3 rounds in a row so they end up with 3 rare goods stacked up from something that only produces 1/turn.
Each produce planet has one product slot. Which can hold a product until youpick consume. Now other people can pick consume before you are ready and force you to consume early. So basically yes production can 'carry' and no you can't stack.
sounds like a fun game, but very complicated and defiantly not for everyone. I wouldn't mind trying this game out sometime but I can see a lot of people having trouble sorting out what to do, I am sure it would take quite a few play throughs to get a good sense of how this game works to a point where every game runs smoothly.
it's not as bad as you fear. If you want you can try playing on BoardGameArena[dot]com which you can use for free to try it out and get practice firming up the rules in your mind.
This is my favorite game. Too bad no one ever wants to learn how to play it. It takes forever to teach properly - and even then it takes several games of practice. This tutorial was good, but unfortunately any game that takes longer than 30 minutes to learn will only be played by hardcore gamers.
Thanks. (but if you need a mnemonic to remember that the circle cards are worlds and diamond ones aren't worlds then your gonna have trouble remembering the rest of the rules)
Playing this for the first time tonight so you know I was happy to remember you had done a tutorial for this game. Great work as always.
Thanks Rodney! Hope you passed all of the questions of the test at the end...
ModernTablegamer I sure did! I thought the little quiz was a great way to lock those concepts in.
It's a shame you don't seem to be doing videos anymore, this is a very good tutorial of a pretty daunting game to teach/learn. Thank you for doing it!
the only RFTG tutorial complete with table of contents in the description and a video quiz! good job.
My hand is in this video- WOOO! Nice video Pete.
Such a good, easy to follow explanation of the game... i wish all board game tutorials were like this. Great job !
Hey, thanks! I appreciate the feedback!
Saw this 8 years ago to learn the game, watching again to remember how to play. Best tutorial on this game and loved the quiz at the end. It's incredible, this video only has 70,000 views.
My wife and I watched this today and thanks to your fantastic work I may finally get to play Race for the Galaxy with her! YAY!
Such a great editing work on this video ! And the music mostly match the rythme of you speaking, it’s a blast.

I keep getting back to this video and this is the best on the whole internet
Kept trying to play this game with my wife, but couldn't make sense of the confusing rule book till I watched this tutorial, so well done.
Thanks for the feedback! I am working on more and hopefully will have another here in a day or two.
Thanks for this! I've been wrestling with the Race for the Galaxy rules for a while and this makes it all a lot clearer.
Thank you so much! My friend came to visit from out of state and showed me this game. He explained and we played once due to time constraint. I liked it so I bought a copy of this game but I still needed help after I read the rule book. After watching this video, I understood how to play it! And I can't wait to play with my local friends!
Best Race for the Galaxy tutorial ever made...thanks!
I sent my friends your video to prepare for the epic game. :-) They heard about this game and want to play. We all love strategy games. Thank you again!

great work!!! thanks for great tutorial!! I had a few problems with phase IV, but after you video, everything was easy cleared out...
Thanks Stanislav! Glad to hear it.
That was an amazing video, thank you, it really helped. Some other fella joked in his video that the game’s manual is like the instructions booklet for a washing machine and boy is that description accurate. 😆
I would have to agree with that description of the rule book :). Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for this. The rulebook left me with so many questions that you have answered. All makes sense now :)
One of the best video tutorial I have ever seen.
Thanks Annie, that is awesome to hear and you have confirmed my primary goal of getting people to learn and play this game. I hope your gaming group takes to this game. Fantastic in-depth explanation. I'm so psyched to start playing when it arrives.
Thank you! my bf and I struggled to learn the rules during our first play. we should have just watched this video instead! very helpful!
Great guide loved the confirmation quiz at the end.
Subscribed. Thank you so much for taking time making those amazing videos. Much appreciated.
Awesome job on this video, great explanation & production value. Thanks for explaining, I was certain there was a fun game in there somewhere!
Hi Oscar, Thank you for your comments. That thought of doing a video on the expansions for Race for the Galaxy has been in the back of my mind. I haven't picked up either of these expansions yet, but would really like to in the up and coming months.
Sounds great and good luck! This is a game that once you play it a couple times, you get hooked.
whew...a little more complicated than other games I've played, but something I will probably try online --- thanks for making this!!!
Best how-to-play video I've seen. Now to get started gaming...
Wow and thank you!!!! Hopefully this turns more people on to this game. I always need more players out there to play this with.
Thanks for such a wonderful video just got this game and was a bit overwhelmed after reading the rule book
Just learning the game tonight. This video was a big help!
Glad this helped. Thanks!
Great video! The interactive transcript is priceless...
fantastic tutorial. It's going to be available at Board Game club today and I think I'm pretty prepped. thanks

The best tutorial that I've seen, thank you very much :)
Great stuff man.
I just subscribed to your channel and i hope to seein' a lot of video as good as this one.
Kepp it up.

Thanks for this tutorial, I Found it very useful!
Great thanks for the ccomments from Evren and Vondur. Comments like that keep us going strong!
Really enjoyed this video! Thank you!
What a great tutorial - thanks!

Hi torq21, I'm glad you like the video! Let me know how your games go. This is one where the games get better the more you play.
You're right! there should be a Green card there for either one of the red cards. I think I used two reds by accident as this was one that I had the graphic for both II and V phases
I found this be extremely useful; thank you!
Great video :) nice touch with the quiz.
Great tutorial, many thanks!
Yep, you got it, just reshuffle. It seems most games we're re-shuffling and when that happens, I think "Yes, now I might get the card I was looking for"!
excellent review .. how come I never heard of this channel before :)
Really helpful! Thank you :)

Thank you very much!
Very very helpfull! Thank you!
If the draw deck runs out do you reshuffle or simply finish without drawing? I never saw that in the instructions.
great video
Thanks. PL!
excellent video!
Great tutorial!
Are the two player advanced rules different then playing regular rules with just two players?
thanks, that was very helpful! :)
Excelent job!
Thx very helpful vid !
@23:58 what is the small circle under the victory point??
Hi Palaniappa. From what I understand, the smaller circle is used in some expansions for RFTG. At least I believe so. Maybe someone else can clarify?
@@ModernTablegamer great thanks... In that case I guess I need not worry about it in the base game!!! 😀
So for the hostile worlds, you only need military strength and not need to pay price (discard)? Also when you explore/consume/produce, does it matter if you pickup in a certain order? I assume the produce phase wouldn't matter since the card is faced down but explore/consume would matter?

Will you make tutorials for RFTG expansions?
thank you!
Great video

Hey! Can you make a video for the game, Azul, please?
Delayed comment, but a great tutorial!
Which would people recommend for two players? Race for the Galaxy or Roll for the Galaxy?
I think Race works well for two players and it would be my choice.
SuperWolfkin That's what I went for in the end.

5:50 why is there 2 red cards?
This is my favorite game. Too bad no one ever wants to learn how to play it. It takes forever to teach properly - and even then it takes several games of practice. This tutorial was good, but unfortunately any game that takes longer than 30 minutes to learn will only be played by hardcore gamers.
the rule book it comes with is terrible. this video helps a lot. although me and my girlfriend havent braved a game yet.
Thanks. (but if you need a mnemonic to remember that the circle cards are worlds and diamond ones aren't worlds then your gonna have trouble remembering the rest of the rules)
what's that cheap porn background music? Red ring does not mean hostile, it means you don't have to pay cards to place it.
