  • Exploring beautiful and tasty food in the local farmers' market in Samarkand Uzbekistan. The sellers were friendly and were asking us to try different things. We ended up buying some traditional sweets, dry and fresh fruits, and drinking the best pomegranate juice in our lives.

Dallas, TX has markets like this, not always called a farmer's market, though. Some are unofficial and under the freeways. In that case, people just use their vehicles for booths. We used to have a farmer's truck market in an otherwise unused field in my hometown. But they've moved that farmer's market into a restored old warehouse on a main road in the historical district, so now it's all weather, year-round business, which is great for the farmers and customers both.

Within couple minutes seller came outside and told us he would accept our price. We were happy!

Thank you so much for sharing this market! It must have taken so long to display the dried fruit so perfectly into cone shapes. And clearly, the vendors are very experienced in pulling in customers. You were smart to ask about the price for 2 of the nan. I could see how people could be convinced to buy more than they wanted to avoid embarrassment. The produce is gorgeous. And I appreciate your warning about freshly cut meat.
I was glad you showed your reaction to drinking pomegranate juice. I had wondered if it would taste intense and was impressed that Agata likes it.

What a wonderful place to visit. Haggling for price isn't done as often in the USA, and most of us aren't very good at it. When I visited Ukraine, my friends told me not to speak at the market because prices always go up for Americans. Do you think Russians are treated differently than natives at the markets?

Yes, usually locals set higher prices if they hear English or Russian language (English especially) because they understand that we're probably tourists and are used to paying a bit more for these things in our home country.

Usually it is sliced as a side salad to accompany the main meal. It is tasty and refreshing. Keep an eye for watermelon season because they are so delicious in Uzbekistan! Such an interesting market, thanks for the tour. I'm the worst at bargaining, it's so out of my comfort zone. Glad you have good food to keep you going in this time of major transition. So great to see the CV three of you thriving in new situations and locales, and to see that the locals in Uzbekistan are thriving too!

I love bread, dried fruits, nuts, and sweets! Omg and so many samples, this market is paradise to me 😍😍😍
