Yes! Even if we do experiment with a few trends, they're "uncool" in a few weeks anyway because of how much social media has ramped up the cycle. It's impossible to keep up, just generally, and financially. You'll drive yourself insane trying. Go with what you genuinely like, not simply because it's "trending."
Haven’t actually watched yet but totally agree with the idea that everything is a trend, very few people are not influenced. I roll my eyes at particular influencers that have gone from Louboutins and Balmain blazers to Loro Piana and Oscar de La Renta and claim that they ‘hate trends’ and stick to timeless styles 🙄 Can’t wait to re-watch in 5 years time to witness the hypocrisy 🤣
I am a subscriber and watch your videos religiously and I thought this one was one of the most on point you have ever done, i miss the Times when we followed the Vouge september issue fashion
1000% a result of 24/7 social media onslaught mixed with fast fashion marketing and brand deals. It’s created a lack of originality and personal creativity
I find comfort in the fact that I up until this day, have not seen the MSCHF boots in the real world. (or the dipsy boots for that matter) To me that is the embodiment of how trends online aren't necessarily something people actually wear. And that's how I treat some of the other trends that don't speak to me, as something that has it's place somewhere, but not for me. I do enjoy seeing someone pull of a fun outfit, but then I wish they can do it like loud luxury Cassie.
I think you're onto something Cassie!! 🤔Most people probably aren't too concerned with the actual fashion in trends, they might actually just be addicted to the feeling of (limited) sense of community and "togetherness" of participating in trends 🤯My mind is blown
Omg this spoke to me! The thing that you said about feeling that you belong. I’ve been moving a lot in the past few years so I don’t have any friends. And I feel like following some trends that I like or buying trendy items makes me feel that I kinda belong in the society
This is so true! Trends move to quickly there is barely time to keep up and decide if you like them!!! Gone are the days of getting your monthly cosmopolitan mag and looking at the trends!
Your comment about trends as community and entertainment is spot on. I think this is especially true of dark academia, cottagecore, and quiet luxury. People aspire to the lifestyle and watch videos/dress in this way to attain a small part of the life they want.
I totally agree with you! We try so hard to fit in or try to be part of sth that we FORGET to live how we want to, wearing the pieces that make us feel happy and ourselves. I'm happy I don't follow “trends” anymore!
There’s a book called The Long Tail that explains this phenomenon pretty well. Basically because of the internet and social media niches are getting more exposure. Rather than everyone getting their influence from a main source (ex:back when there were only so many channels on tv everyone saw the same channels), they’re getting them from tony niches that align with them.
I completely agree with you - so many people/influencers/celebrities just follow trends without consideration for the bigger picture of style. It feels like the cycle of consumerism taking over. Remember that le cagole bag that we saw for .3 seconds? They're all over resale sites for way discounted now. It's a cute bag if it really fits someones style but guaranteed that not everyone who bought it was thinking about "I'll totally be wearing this in two years." It's WILD out here, Cassie!!!
As for all of the crazy, continuously changing trends these days, well, I developed my own personal style many decades ago, but of course we evolve throughout our lifetime. However, I have a basic personal style and just add on to it. I add a few fashion pieces to my regular collection in order to add both a fresh look and a little fun from year to year. But, whatever I add, I have to really like no matter what the current trend is. Plus, I'm not one who likes looking cookie cutter. I feel that there are these ever changing trends nowadays due to a lot of folks having a very short attention span. But, with the outrages price tags dangling off of a lot of these clothing/footwear/handbag items these days and the forever price increases, there is no better time than now, for folks to find their personal style and not get sucked into all of the microwave, constantly changing trends. I've made my list for what pieces and colors I will add to my wardrobe for this upcoming fall and so far, have ordered two new items; a short leather, fitted blazer from Wilsons Leather (formerly Wilsons House of Suede back when I was a kid) and a pair of moto-style leather knee boots with buckles from Schutz, a stylish but decently priced footwear store. Since moto boots never totally go out and I like the vibe of them, I decided to add a pair to my footwear collection. Some months ago, I added a pair of short, rain moto boots. And about 8 years ago, I added a pair of semi-moto knee boots, but with a distressed finish and which still look stylish today. I'll be bringing them out again in the fall. Greetings from Los Angeles
This is why I love your content it’s actual personal style and why you never look like a fashion victim like some of the girlies that just cycle through every trend without filtering it through the lense of their own style.
Can I just say the quirky editing in this video actually made me giggle out loud. The juice core warp and the internal monologue zoom in were my favorites lol. Always enjoy watching your videos!
I’ve always been interested in y2k (both pink sparkly things and grunge), since I was born in the 90s and didn’t really get to participate but was influenced by the trends. I started pulling pieces from Poshmark and Vestaire 15 yrs ago from brands that grow a whole y2k wardrobe without buying the hottest items, vintage items from Blumarine, Hello Kitty, Dior, Diesel, Ed Hardy, etc and going off on side tangents like Chanel-ish suits, horse girl, cottage core, y2k abercrombie flannels/furs, free people/santa monica aesthetic, and discovering new brands that started participating in the y2k return (I Am Gia my fav). It’s been great to have a dynamic wardrobe that I hand selected at a discount that makes me feel great! Now seeing the luxury brands like Versace, Dior, and Chanel participate or rerelease newer versions of these trends I’m kind of like thanks but I have the originals.
oh man, you are the QUEEN of the bright green eyeshadow! I have never seen it look so good on anyone else, it's def JUICY! 💚 Love your data based approach.
great video! I so agree that when everything's a trend we have to pick and choose what works with our own personal style or what we can inject into our wardrobes to give it a little bit of new life. like I'm not really a cottage-core person but i think b/c of it's prevalence silk slip skirts have come into my wardrobe in a way they probably wouldn't otherwise- because the more i saw them online/in stores the more i was interested in trying them out- despite being skeptical that they'd look good on me- thought they'd be too clingy, turns out when done right they're rly flattering :)
As usual, you’re right on the money!! As for trends, one of the weirder non fashion ones for me is people acting like NPCs…a week ago never heard of it now I’m seeing it everywhere. TikTok is crazy
Cassie, I totally agree! I think that fast fashion is also a part of this equation trying to pump out as many things as possible with the many trends, and as consumers we cannot keep up! I personally have found that basics are super important. Those are the staples I need to have an amazing wardrobe, and that might not be to everyones tastes. But, I think I have learned that the basics are important that then add your fun pieces after you have built your foundation.
I am so into this, Barbie core, mermaid, 🧜🏾♀️, coastal grand ma I dable in minimalism as well - I also love colorful farm too looks not sure what trend that is - but I am not on tik Tok lol. I live to dable when not at work. I miss Polyvore so much for that.
I could really listen to you all day. For me, its like "you wear what you want to wear". Its just some are too many wearing it if that makes sense. Day by day many people are open to trying different things and more open of widen the variety of their closet and collection and people now are really investing to high end items or luxury.
side note: your accessories in this video, omg i can't take my eyes off them 😍 the way your eyeshadow matches your nails perfectly, im also in love with your nails, and the arm and rings stacks, it makes me feel things in my tummy 🥰🥰
First of all - hat tip on the Gemstones insert 😂 In my nearly 50 years on this planet, I am happy that I’ve only lightly dipped into trends. My personal philosophy is not to worship at the feet of any brand or trend and not to be so quick to slap a label(s) on yourself. We are never just one thing! Pick what you like and what makes you feel fabulous, and leave the rest.
Idk if it's the fact that I'm getting old or that the younger generation works in cycles that are too fast for me, but at this point, the trend cycles are so overwhelming that I just buy multiples when I find something I like and wear that forever. Interesting what you said about trends as entertainment though. I feel like at this point I'm more interested in consuming fashion as a third party through your videos and those of similar creators than directly. Definitely easier on my bank account that way!
Not the Righteous Gemstones reference 😂😂😂😂😂 Thoughtful video as always. I think it's fun to dabble in trends but ultimately just wear what makes you feel like the most confident version of yourself!
Another brilliant video, & so true! We are hammered daily with so many trends! 😮 I just focus on my own tastes & see how I can push it out a little. Loved how you explained things. You are my go to fashionista 🩷🩵
Fashion houses have "Trend Books" to "secretly agree" on the trends of the season. These books are issued by few trend agencies and cost like few thousand euros and two years before the season they talk about trends that will come up. Like colours, shapes, moods, texture etc. Trend agencies study society and predict what will people want and like. Barbie movie making was probably first announced few years back and trend houses probably incorporated Barbie in the book for SS23/FW24 back in 2021 releases. There, that's how it goes between fashion houses and trends 😊
I don’t always go off of a trend. I just buy what I like, trendy or not. I’ve realized that when I’ve purchased items because it’s trendy I usually end up not liking it as much. And I have a variety of styles. My style depends on my mood and where I’m going.
Amazing topic and great video as always ! I agree with you, I like seeing many trends going around and seeing what people choose for themselves rather than everybody doing the exact same thing and wearing that gucci logo belt ! Also I feel like marketing has really been working hard on churning out products and clothing for every fandom out there (other than Barbie)
I read Business of Fashion's article on this and I was totally shocked too that Cottagecore dominated all the trends. I realized that even I have bought cottagecore dresses with florals and sandals. If they dive deeper, a lot of the cottagecore styles have florals. I think it means women and men just love flowers and I dont think it'll ever go away. TBH, I love the little flowers on dresses.
I was just saying to myself that this is really getting out of hand. Your video is SPOT ON! Ironically I was already saying that ultimately it's going to come down to personal style. I'm obsessed with trends myself, but lately I have felt overwhelmed. Anyway, it's back to the discovery phase for me because I won't be able to keep up with it all.
Cassie this was the most insightful and really honest opinion I have heard on trends to date and why we buy. Well done! I’ve always been a Moto, western, and grunge girl for years. Quiet luxury trend = 90’s minimalism (look at Caroline Bessett Kennedy and 90’s Gwyneth Paltrow plus others for ideas). 90’s girl at heart so I’m here for it! I’ve always hated pink so Barbie core is a strong no😂 Love your videos and I also love your dad at the end! He’s the best.
There are so many trends that I almost feel relieved that whatever I wear will probably be part of a current trend lol. I will confess I am watching this on my phone (held by my blueberry milk manicured hands) with the Barbie soundtrack playing softly in the background 😆 Blue is my favorite color 💙 also, I've always loved Barbie and this was the literally the first CD I've bought in 20 years 🤣 I think this is an incredible time where people can be free to be themselves with their clothing, and to also take a chance and try something new because things are all over the place. I'm a vintage girl at heart so I did keep my Umbros from the 90s and even wore them recently 🤣 I think cottagecore is so huge because people want those soft, quaint, country experiences and feelings after a rough few years. Home and fashion become a refuge.
Always love your videos and this one is so on the money! trends are kinda going crazy rn so I just have been focusing on what looks good on me and makes me happy.
"Get philosophical" more often; your insights are very incisive (and are in all your videos, even the hauls, but these discussions of trends etc. are ten out of ten.
I love the economic 101 references with the graph visualization! I wonder if this is why people are trying to push Quiet Luxury- people can’t keep up with fast paced trends that show up on social media. Government conspiracy in economic materialism. I died when I heard Cottage Core is a fashion trend- because it is typically a decor style for homes. Interesting correlation about consuming trends versus just passively observing trends. Social capital based off of sharing a trend but not materially consuming it. Ethical, thoughtful trendsetting- using trends for inspiration. You have a very positive outlook on other people’s styles and I think your self-reflection should be an inspiration to women, especially younger girls about having nice things and appreciating items without owning them.
In one of my favourite Novels the protagonist has traveled so much in a short time, she thinks that she is beyound Jet Lag and has instead become her own unique Time Zone. That is how I currently feel about Trends, and I suspect it wo t be long until most people feel that way too. Great vidi 😎☕💋
I don’t really follow trends and I thank God for that! I really don’t know how some people these days manage to leave their house all dressed up following these trends. 😂. Great content as always!
I loved hearing your take on this. I had been thinking the same thing in the back of my mind, but you summed it up perfectly. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but it weirdly feels like I needed permission to not give a crap about trends and really commit to finding my own style. The power of influencers over our wardrobes has been so strong, even when we think we're making our own choices and resisting the trend fervor. So thank you for encouraging us all to find our own fashion voices and thank you for leading by example by having your own awesome aesthetic that inspires me every video
I feel I have finally found my style, only taken decades. I grew to hate the preppy look of the 70s/80s, still don’t like a blazer. Never liked skinny jeans and leggings. Happy with classics.
You make sense. It's all so fast these days. I go for 'quite best I can afford ' but I feel the lack of bright colours so will accesorise . Great black T by the way. Where's it from?
I enjoy seeing fashion through your eyes! I also enjoy watching people with personal style and how they achieved their look! It's endlessly fascinating!! Thanks for another great episode!!🎉💞😎
In my experience personal style evolves over decades, so try everything that appeals and I think you’ll find yourself organically settling into a groove that feels as comfortable as slipping into a warm bath. I think a personal style is eventually determined by instinct, sense of self, a little bit of fashion disaster, and good old confidence. Don’t forget to have fun along the way, though! ❤❤❤
WORD WOMAN. I do miss the days of going out and buying vogue and cutting out pictures that I loved and creating wish lists or making my own style take on what I saw and read. I am soooo glad that I got to experience that way of life. 80s kids rule LOL
Yes we need personal style! The whole “pink everything” Barbie core is something I’ve been doing for forever. I love pink so much😂. I don’t ONLY wear pink but I buy a TON of pink. Now I don’t mind being called Barbie but I don’t know how long it’ll take before people start calling me tacky lol.
I’m trend girlie. No shame in my game but I try to buy into aspects that suit my style. I won’t let a particular trend take over my personality. Also the thing with trends, if you’re a high street shopping, sometimes it’s hard to find things outside the current “trend”. Anywho I’m fashion history and data babe so I look forward to more of these aspects in your trend reports🫶🏾
Cassie, I’d love for you to cover brands that currently have gold plated hardware and other signs of true luxury right now! I’m sitting here looking at the hardware on my Gucci belt bag, and it’s so orange. I’d really like to invest in pieces that will truly last.
You are so right that people are trying to be a part of something - this peaked during covid when people felt lonely and distant from people - look at even how much political movements changed during this time! It's no coincidence that things like the church and local community no longer really exit in the numbers they used to... if they came back, we'd very likely see fewer 'online' social trends imo!
People want soooo bad to be part of something, they no longer know their own style; they just want to fit in. When I see a style trending, I usually go in the opposite direction; I believe this is what makes someone unique and stand out from the crowd. Lately, trends are becoming the biggest FAD!
Everything is so fast now days- the days awaiting the September Vogue issue is gone- it just not fun anymore- now I just wear what brings me joy- sometimes it’s trendy sometimes its not. I love just dressing for the occasion…
Loved this video b!! The blueberry milk nails was just taking it too far 😭 One thing I like about these ‘trends’ is they’ve given me inspiration to dress how I’ve always liked but more on a budget! I’ve always been a Miu Miu, Simone Rocha, Margiela Tabi girl but now seeing people style these brands (and newer ones like Sandy Liang and Shu Shu Tong), I’ve never had so much inspo for this kind of style before. Not to copy directly but it makes me feel more comfortable dressing how I want 🥰🥰
This is my exact sentiments on trends. Im overstimulated but it makes sense when you say its entertainment. Totally love your analysis. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️
@ Cassie Thorpe makes her own jam and has a sourdough starter at all times🤣😂🤣 So true what you are saying about the need to have your personal style. It is also impossible to keep up with the Bloggers. I find the best way is to have a timeless wardrobe as designer staples and add on trend items at a cheaper price point. For instance silk dresses/pants, sweater dresses, etc...never go out of style, same with cashmere, mohair, denim, leather, and Wolford basics, bodysuits etc...
Oooo having talked about popular trends, can you now go to the streets of New York and see what people are actually wearing?? Either covert or a fashion version of Billy on the Street
Never knew about the barbie trend a year ago.... Only found out when I took my lads to the cinema, omg half the people there were in PINK and tiaras.... My lads were there to see Oppenheimer.....Never heard of Old granny trend until just now.... Thanks for the education... 😀
Blueberry milk nails? Are you kidding me? 😂😩 I was never one to follow all the trends. I think social definitely play a huge part in creating "trends". Bring back paper magazines.
Trends have become total BS … just wear what you love and feel great in, end of.
💖💖
💯 THIS

Tell that to young women ages 16-25.. and they'll look at you sideways 😮
@@patr70 You are not wrong but thankfully we all grow out of that 😂 well I did.
When 'everything' is a trend, then nothing is a trend. It is all about discovering your own personal style and what speaks to you.
Haven’t actually watched yet but totally agree with the idea that everything is a trend, very few people are not influenced. Ah, Cassie, I always enjoy your hauls, but I absolutely love your more analytical videos. Bring on the data 😂
Hehehe I have a lot of fun researching them!
As I currently rock my brush cotton red tartan shirt , leggings and platform chestnut uggs - hurrah for no trends !! X
Sourdough starter killed me 🤣
😂😂
I am a subscriber and watch your videos religiously and I thought this one was one of the most on point you have ever done, i miss the Times when we followed the Vouge september issue fashion
Wow what a compliment! Thank you 🙏🏽💖
Have you seen the film called The September Issue?
1000% a result of 24/7 social media onslaught mixed with fast fashion marketing and brand deals. It’s created a lack of originality and personal creativity
"Ticky Tockles" absolutely sent me
AMEN TO THAT TITLE ALONE 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
😂😂💖
YESSS!!! DEVELOP PERSONAL STYLE (and an authentic personality while you're at it)!!!! Kudos Cassie!
6:01 had me cracking up. I love the Righteous Gemstones TV Show 😅
Love that Cassie always brings the news and analysis, making us both better informed and amused.
Ooooooh, the white cuff is so, so good!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍

Wow! What a wonderful analysis. Excellent presentation Cassie.
Thanks again Cassie. Loved this one

Great video Cass!! I’ve def been overwhelmed with trends. Someone once told me I dress for theme and don’t have one personal style. 🦎
Best fashion influencer. End of sentence ❤️💖🤩 Lots of love from Italy, Cassie 💖💖
Omggg I’m honoured 😭😭💖💖💖
The only trend that never goes out of style is wearing whatever the hell you want.
I totally agree with ur thoughts! I def think the outfit is part of the experience & I like to match the vibes

I’ve always hated pink so Barbie core is a strong no😂
Love your videos and I also love your dad at the end! He’s the best.
On point Cassie! I like how you call out all these trends.
😂🙌🏽💖💖
There are so many trends that I almost feel relieved that whatever I wear will probably be part of a current trend lol. I will confess I am watching this on my phone (held by my blueberry milk manicured hands) with the Barbie soundtrack playing softly in the background 😆 Blue is my favorite color 💙 also, I've always loved Barbie and this was the literally the first CD I've bought in 20 years 🤣
I think this is an incredible time where people can be free to be themselves with their clothing, and to also take a chance and try something new because things are all over the place.
Ahh that means a lot, thank you! 💖💖
Great vidi 😎☕💋
oh that is a great analogy, what novel is that may i ask?
Yes, what book is this? 🙂
The Book William Gibson Pattern Recognition Book 1 of the Blue Ant Trilogy. Blue Ant is basically a marketing firm run by a Bond Villain.
I am really entranced by the green nails
I see you Tiffany Cuff! I think this is very well explained, nice to see someone explain personal style
Love data!!! And excited for more of these videos! ❤
I love this analysis! And I learned something new. GORP core???
I’m trend girlie. No shame in my game but I try to buy into aspects that suit my style. I won’t let a particular trend take over my personality. Also the thing with trends, if you’re a high street shopping, sometimes it’s hard to find things outside the current “trend”. Anywho I’m fashion history and data babe so I look forward to more of these aspects in your trend reports🫶🏾
Cassie, speaking of TBE- I’d love to see you do a video of your TBE bag collection.❤
Favourite video this year to date! 💕👏
The blueberry milk nails was just taking it too far 😭
One thing I like about these ‘trends’ is they’ve given me inspiration to dress how I’ve always liked but more on a budget!
That is a beautiful lipstick shade
Best channel I’ve subscribed to 🫶🏼🫶🏼.
How’s that wedding prep going? 👰🏻♀️
Not me totally embracing juicy! Thanks Cassie 😂😂
This is my exact sentiments on trends. Im overstimulated but it makes sense when you say its entertainment.
Totally love your analysis.
Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️
Wear what you love.
"Has a sourdough starter at all times" 😂 brilliant, Cassie!
So off topic but my brain is itching to see u pull together an amazing outfit with the flame prada heels and bamboo birkin (without the twilly) lol
Kisses from Hawaii! Thanks 4 still going strong with great content, love you sis 😘😘😘
Never knew about the barbie trend a year ago.... Only found out when I took my lads to the cinema, omg half the people there were in PINK and tiaras.... My lads were there to see Oppenheimer.....Never heard of Old granny trend until just now.... Thanks for the education... 😀
Ah yes you can really tell who’s going to see barbie at the cinema 😂
Barbenheimer- watch Barbie right after Oppenheimer, or watch Barbie then Oppenheimer
Blueberry milk nails? Are you kidding me? 😂😩 I was never one to follow all the trends. I think social definitely play a huge part in creating "trends". Bring back paper magazines.
ur fashion videos are the best.
