      If I'm being honest, from the way she talked about the pageant before she even got to it sounds as if she was kind of asked, by bbc maybe? Idk. Just my opinion haha, I'm sure anyone wouldn't sign up to anything they find so bizarre without reason!

    I am not one to usually make negative comments on any videos, and I always love watching Dina's videos, but something has been really bugging me about these past couple of vlogs, from the pageant. Obviously Dina was having a horrible time and it is somewhat understandable because things were not as she expected from the beginning once she arrived, however, if anyone puts themselves into a competition, I would expect of them at least to take it seriously instead of making fun of it all the time in front of other competitors and treating it as a joke, while the others are really into it and taking it seriously. But what bugs me the most about all of that is that everything in this horrible experience for Dina was being televised. I don't know what the documentary is about or what they are doing it for and if this whole contest thing is only a small part of many other things they are going to film, but I worry about the footage that they are going to use and what path they are going to choose to take with this "documentary". What are they trying to portrait?
    I am just tired and I think enough already from all the misjudgment and stereotypes and scrutiny that we have to deal with because of how the media already portraits Islam and Muslim women. What are they trying to show from this? And what will non-muslim viewers think about all of this once this "documentary" comes out? What do they want them to think? I'm honestly just hoping this will be really tasteful and not misleading at all, inshallah.

      Hiya alessandra thanks for your comment!
      I too am worried how the documentary will turn out.. trust me! But I 've been working very closely with the crew that came out with me to indo and can say 100% that their intentions are amazing. And from my point of view.. I went into the competition with the hopes it would live up to it's title.. a 'world muslimah pageant'
      What does this title suggest to you? To me, it suggests a winner would be picked based on her knowledge, personality and character. Beauty 0%. The 2 weeks 'quarantine' we were subjected to, i Imagined would be almost like training.. having Islamic lectures and activities we would gain something from. Yes.. we had approximately 3-4 activities in the 2 weeks that I found beneficial.. although the methods i didn't completely agree with.. they were in general positive experiences. I actually ended up taking part in every thing we were required to do in the two weeks so i can safely say I participated with an open mind 100%. However things did start to unfold during the two weeks that were not good.. example.. major dishonesty from the organizers side that i will not go into now and unfortunately it was not documented on my vlogs ... I wasnt able to shove my camera in everyone face every time something went down.. however the bbc camera was able to document everything. If some of that is not going to be positive.. i am not one to take it out just to save face of the pageant. The competition should take into consideration basic islam when putting something like this together. Also a World muslimah pageant suggests they would like muslim women world wide to participate.. in fact one of my main issues with the whole thing was the fact that their was a lot of unfairness involved in terms of international contestants to indonesian contestants. The international ones seeming to be favored. Anyway there is SO much I could go into but i'm saving it for my recap video which will be up in approximately 3-4 videos time! Then you can hear a much clearer detailed account of my experience before the documentary comes out! x

      Dina Tokio Thank you for your response, Dina. Inshallah it will be a good documentary and all of these things you just explained will be clear for everyone to see anyway. I would not endorse any type of contest between Muslim women, and I don't want people to believe we have or support that type of thing, but I am still hoping the documentary will show the positive aspects of it, such as the activities you described, and it won't touch too much on the bad parts and the actual "competition" side of it all. The only one who can judge who is a better Muslim or Muslimah is Allah swt, and I don't want anybody to feel like we believe otherwise. So many worries, but still hoping it will turn out ok.
      Thanks for taking time to address this.

      Alessandra Perez I actually think that showing the negative side of it and having Dina's critique of it shown would be a positive thing, and maybe it would be good to see some criticism from some of the other contestants. I don't think it would show Islam in a bad light, in fact quite the opposite. To see a strong Muslim woman like Dina, not just accepting everything in the pageant as it is, like a docile little stereotype of Muslim women; would actually help to smash peoples pre-judgements about women in Islam. Just showing smiling faces and contestants just going along with the status quo would actually be worse then actually showing Dina and maybe some other contestants standing up for themselves and being independent and unique in what seems so far to be quite a constricting and controlling type of pageant. I mean for one, that psychological profiling is ridiculous. Unless it is too make sure that the contestants have the psychological stamina to deal with both the success of winning the pageant, and the potential 'failure' of not winning. I think this pageant should be more about celebrating different kinds of internal and external beauty, and celebrating the unique charm and grace of each contestant no matter where they come from or how different from the carbon copy stereotype that Muslim women are sometimes expected to be. It should be about celebrating women and Islam in general, the beauty of what this wonderful faith has to offer women, and how they live that. Thus far, from the videos Dina has put up, and from her comments on the videos, it doesn't look that way to me.

      ShakirahIbaad took the words right out of my mouth! I was so frustrated during the 2 weeks and just fed up of being told what to do, what to say, how to look and how to act.. many of the girls also felt the same but unfortunately were happy to go along. I could blab for so long but will film it instead.. thank you for being able to see so much further than most! x

    Lol we too had to draw a house and a tree at college in psychology. It's basically part of the psychoanalysis approach Freud's theory which states that the house represents ur current life the and the person depending on how many represent how u feeling right now, the tree is your out view on life.

    Wow I rate you for seeing the entire thing through! Seems like the words "boot camp" arevan under statement! I guess here in the UK we're a lil more grounded, seems like the contest was quite cultural- haha too funny about the weird phsyc test! I'd love to know what the Dr thought of ur psychological state!?!? How weird! Anyway well done! IA the documentary will show that there were cultural differences that were hard to adjust to and not dwell too much on the "islamic" side of things.

    As a non-muslim, I was a bit shocked to see very little girls at the community center wearing hijabs. I thought that wearing the hijab was a way to protect women from the gaze of men, to act as a veil between men and women,etc, but surely these little girls are too young to need that ? Can someone explains at what age do girls usually start wearing it ? does it depends on regions and/or parents? I thought that it was a choice girls made once they were about to turn into women. Hijab-wearers, did you start wearing it very young too ? (I'm just trying to learn and understand, not to attack or offense anyone ^^ )

    • @fearnothingdearone
      @fearnothingdearone 10 лет назад +4

      Hello! Most of the young girls that you see wearing a hijab wears not permanently :) it's just a thing they do sometimes, like when going to a mosque etc. It's also a way of making the little girl like the hijab from an early stage and not make it as something completely foreign for her. So you're completely right about when a girl wears the hijab etc. ^^

    • @loor31
      @loor31 10 лет назад +1

      oh ok ! Yes that makes total sense, I guess they were all dressed-up for the cameras and the contestants to visit :)

    • @sahrahussein7251
      @sahrahussein7251 10 лет назад +1

      the age to start wearing hijabs is actually 7 years old but alot people don't really follow that and some do. And I also think it has to do with the culture and society you are being raised in, for example if its a norm that all women wear hijab, than little girls are going to want to wear it early. and another thing if all the women in their family wear it, they're gonna wear it and model themselves after those women

    • @masumachowdhury
      @masumachowdhury 10 лет назад +1

      I started wearing a hijab go school, and when i left the house when i was in year 1 because i wanted to as i grew up seeing the women in my family wearing them, and i wanted to be like them. My parents didnt discourage me from wearing it, but they said i didnt have to, and even though i was young, it was still my choice. When i was 13 (and reached puberty) i wore the hijab full time, full coverage (along with the abaya), this was encouraged by my family, but it was still my choice and its a choice i have never regretted. I've seen the differences between my friends who don't wear hijab and myself, and i am soo glad i chose to wear it as both protection and as a statement. (Not that I'm saying all girls who don't wear it are bad. I know many people who don't wear hijab who are much better muslims, and people in general, than i am) its a really complex topic, but i hope thai helped.

    They might've not given your sash a flag because the Union Jack is made of crosses no?

    • @ShakirahIbaad
      @ShakirahIbaad 10 лет назад +1

      Well that is just a stupid excuse, many of the other flags had moons and stars on and that symbol is not even Islamic either, in fact it came to prominence with the ottomans and actually is derived from paganism. Also, the union flag is not commonly thought of as symbolising anything to do with Christianity, so if that was their excuse then they shouldn't have any moon and stars flags either.
