This was the house that my father-in-law and husband built. After I watched this video my heart hurt to see what this place looks like. My father-in-law passed away in 2008. We scattered some of his ashes up there. We sold it and whoever bought it, built that greenhouse and grew marajuana in it. I saw when it went up for foreclosure. We thought for a hot second about buying it but we just weren't in a place in our lives that we could have. My husband and I and our two kids lived there for 3 months when we were waiting on buying a house. We have so many wonderful memories. That view was to die for! I remember washing dishes at the kitchen sink and you could hear what someone was saying sitting in the living room because of the dome. You wanted to be sure not to talk about anyone in that house. LOL I loved the floors, they were heated and felt so good. I sponge painted the rusty color in the living room and the blue in the bedroom. The master bathroom tub was the best most comfortable tub in the world. My father-in-law did put up the red carpet in the basement. I wish I could post pictures on here of when it was being built. I also have two arial photos taken from a helicopter. Brian could you please keep us updated on here of the progress of the house. We would love to see it!!! Thank you.

I love it too! 💚.. especially since I a few days ago started dreaming about a Fibonacci aligned housing and angles.. so the vibrations in the house stay bio harmonic/ resonant + super resilient to shakes etc.. and this round one is like the child dream of a mushroom shaped one lol ;)
I’m Scandinavian… so.. but I love the mountains there! 🙌

"When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound" That line speaks profoundly to me. I would Follow anything Lyss and Rio create, but a Channel of Alyssa in Nature and reading a poem or quote, that would capture my heart and soul. Beautiful opening to this video. Brian found a beautiful home.

Brian might want to enlist, without spending too much, a design consultant to provide some ideas. I'd definitely "live" with the house a while before making any major design changes. Looks like a great project. Looks like a few tractor trailer or big, big dumpster loads to get rid of that trash. And Brian should definitely have lots and lots of photos taken now. It's easy to forget what it used to look like exactly once it's renovated. Looking at the "before" photos will be fun someday - yes, make prints and fill an old-fashioned photo album to keep on a coffee table for friends to see.

Do not take out the fireplace. The reason why they put it in the dome house is because they mold, because it is well sealed. The dry heat of the fireplace kills the mold. He will regret it if he removes it.

Modernize it by new flooring, kitchen and baths but the structure will still give the retro feel, keep spiral staircase update railings and add reto pieces of furniture and decor to tie it all in! Easy peazy! So excited for him

Brian ought to start a channel about renovating his new home. I would watch it. I recently helped an elderly couple move into a retirement home. I had a small volunteer crew to clean up and clean out their former house. They were both hoarders. We couldn't even get into most of the rooms, including the kitchen and both bathrooms. We had to start removing things before we could see what was in the rooms! It took us about six weeks to clear everything out because we couldn't stand to work in those conditions more than three days a week! It starts to get you thinking uncomfortable thoughts. Brian, you are brave.

His friend Jess’s place just as awesome beautiful mountainous views , trees, trails, water looove Colorado. I’d live there if it wasn’t so cold in the winter being from upstate NY been in Cali 30 yrs now I’ve acclimated to this desert climate here but with an ocean. I miss the rain and fall most of all. Anyway excited about your next video. Enjoy!! ✌️Rio is adorable!!

Hey Lyss, so glad you were able to stop by the new place. Great to be able to give you a tour and also get some work done, but the best part was I actually getting to sit down and relax for a little bit and catch up with you.
There's so much going on with the house its difficult to really put into words but this video did a great job of showing where we are now about 1 month in, and it would be so great to show you how far we've come with the project again down the road. Safe travels and you're welcome any time!

Oh wow, I remember reading about that house being built ions ago. He has no idea what a gem he has there. Monolithic Domes will last forever, use very little energy, and are safe from anything. If he updated it well, it could go for millions. Highly sought after esp in wildfire areas like that. This place has so much potential. What a find. I'd be over the moon at a find like that esp for that price. Yowza. I'd totally fix the greenhouse because extending the growing season and keeping the animals out of your garden makes them highly prized in CO. You could use it for an entertainment area for now but still maintain that valuable feature for future owners. Man, I'd love to see what he does with this place and hope he doesn't screw it up. lol

You need better supporting structure in a greenhouse that size due to snow loads. You can see what happened. Make the roof steep enough so the snow slides off.

In one of my previous lives, I knew a guy who moved into a dome home in Alaska that he worked to build and renovate. What he noticed was that we, as humans, are used to a "square" reality in our lives--a "square" house, a "square" bed, etc. He used his ingenuity and imagination to make it his home. Beautiful view!! 😊

I know a few families that own dome homes, there pretty cool. They live down in Florida the hurricanes blow over them with no restrictions they are sound homes and i have friends in Belize that have there tropical dome homes. I took by boat down there and visited its beautiful down there. Was planning to go this year but September last year hurricane IDA hit here in Louisiana and put my sailboat 20 ft under so I haven't decided to buy another sailboat or buy a home on wheels. Looking at the most of fuel rising I know it's gotta be hard on y'all and when I lived on my boat 40 gallons of fuel lasted me about a month and mothers nature winds are free. And I've soloed sailed all the Atlantic Ocean side in 3 years and loved every place I went with a veterans pension with adjustments I live fine. Be safe always and be happy

It would be nice to remove the divider wall at the entrance so it opens to most of the first level. Unless you need structural supports (could install pillars), I'd remove all of the walls save the bathroom on the second floor. Also I'd see if it would be possible to install a huge window to see the view of the mountains! That black light thing, it would be amazing to have an artist make a huge drawing across a clean wall so that in the daytime it's empty, but turn on spotlights with blacklight bulbs....WOW! That paired with a star projector would be an amazing hangout room! Since it's a dome...or essentially a UFO, a retro-future look would be amazing, like the Jetsons! A dome doesn't look good with anything antique, wooden, outdoorsy, etc...

    • @kimballscarr
      @kimballscarr 2 года назад

Dome structures are self supporting structurally… whether monolithic… or some form of “wire frame” like construction. This is technically considered monolithic despite the “wire frame” or mesh reinforced concrete. Concrete and pisè du terre or rammed earth types of structures are considered monolithic, plastic, and self supported … even I suppose if tensile fabric is a substitute.

The whole place has to be gutted. Very little is worth salvaging. It needs mire windows; the views are so beautiful and to closed off I would skip the ‘retro’ vibe altogether. No orange or turquoise please. I would go with rustic. Wood floors. Wood countertops. Lots of wood in grey, weathered tones. White walls. Maybe one accent color; something bright like red or yellow. Lots of plants. Furniture in black or white or both. Punch the bathrooms. Accent wallpaper walls of large flowers? Or hand painted mural walls.

Moderinze the kitchen white wash it inside and out then you can see where the light and dark spots and keep sunken lounge and bath. Definately put a few more windows in or a huge window/bifold doors to look out at the scenery when sitting inside, bifold that lead out from the kitchen to a deck area. It's such an amazing dream space.

That dome is a mystery just like the author of the video. I thought of two or three things; all the stuff/trash, I would just sort that out so it doesn't lay distubingly around, and find a way for the buildings to blend in with nature by laying out a garden instead. I would have kept the green house, It is probably too weak to handle snow as it had caved in like that. Heat, mind the heat from the stove planning the rooms so the heat find its way into every corner and doesn't get obstructed. Heat travels upwards so may get super hot on the top floor. Have the heat source in the center of the house appeals. And I believe some inspiration has been taken from the Art Déco design style, Good luck!

IF I were back in my 40s or younger-- I'd bulld one of those... always loved them-- EASY to heat/cool, safe, even in fires...I saw the fires in California over the mountain and there is a dome on the point at top of one- and it's all charred around there-- but that dome is sitting there just pERFECT. The family was IN it when the fire went around and they never even noticed the heat- etc.. :) THAT will make a wonderful place to be...GREAT FIND!!!!

I found a tax repo hobbyfarm with a few giant buildings on it for a song.
Went from underground basement apartment life in the city, to having something the size of my old city block, though 10 miles from town, in the middle of two towns that basically have everything.
However, i hate yardwork, to the point of building a self driving mower bot about the size of a small car. Its half completed, adapted to a giant brush mower that does 4ft passes.

    Colorado wow!
A beautiful part of the world.
The poem, your poetry, your choice of words throughout the video production inspire me to consider the words I use.
Your 'community' is something to strive to build and be a part of also.
I'm old, and have bought and sold a few time's over the last 20 odd year's.
I renovated the first one because it was the trend att. Since then I have done minimal things initially to make it liveable. I found after a year or so living in the environment, inspiration, consideration and enthusiasm changed in that time. I would do smaller projects, necessary for personal comfort enough to keep enthusiasm until the true plan emerges.
I knew an old man and his wife that speculatively build over 100 homes in their life and said, "there's always something you would do differently".
One's time and finances are limited.
To blend the retro with the new? Is one option. To keep some retro, and make the new obvious is another approach which I've seen become very successful especially amongst architects and designers.
A good idea may be to use a laser measuring device to draw a plan of the existing building so Brian can put it up online to gather experienced people's input.
Brian you have a gem. To not be put off by the clean up shows extraordinary foresight and determination. To you and your friends, well done. 👏
It's already been mentioned, I also would keep the greenhouse for fresh produce.
Ol fart over n out. 🤠

That's a great location. The house is amazing too, you do normally find in life that after something as been cleaned. You will find a real proper gem or treasure underneath the mess. Most the precious things are buried under dirt or water or worse. Hidden or yet to be discovered. That's a real nice find. great area as well. It looks like a magical place. Your all doing a great job, well done. 👍

Re: the HOARDING witnessed: FWIW- I was a real estate appraiser for BofA, WAMu, etc. and had Foreclosure/REO stuff as as part of my practice, but: I NEVER saw hoarding this bad! Holy shit.....HOW did they afford, buy, transport, NOT use the sheer volume of all that stuff?! That was insane.

Amazing how large that dome house is. Brian got a great deal and I can’t wait to see what he does with it. The property is so beautiful. (He’s cute too, could he become more than a friend? I approve)

Brian you definitely have alot of work ahead my husband and I have done many remodel jobs on homes that were pretty bad. One way to make sure smells don't come through the floors paint with a lacquer paint before laying new flooring. Want to see more of your project as you make it yours.

For the fireplace/stove on first floor....make that space into a rounded adobe style fireplace with a big hearth and seating. Make the firebox big enough to cook in if needed. Whitewash the exterior, embed local rocks or tiles as a decorative asethetic. The round of the stove would compliment the dome shape.

I love this! I think found your channel because the YT algorithm directs me to Land Cruiser content and you announced your new rig. When I was a kid, I used to read my grandfather's Popular Mechanics magazines and I would see ads for these geodesic domes and imagine building one in the woods. I don't envy the work he has in front of him, but I am jealous of what he has and hope you get to share the end result!

Well, you cleaned up the place so Regretless could see it. Not buried under a pile of junk. I like the house and have similar tastes in domestic living. Good luck with this. The more you improve the house, the more money, and satisfaction, you will be putting in your pocket. Thanx to Regretless for giving us a view. Frank V
