দেশের উত্তর-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের এই বিলের রয়েছে নিজস্ব ভূমিরূপ। অসংখ্য ছোটবড় বিল-পুকুর এবং প্লাবন-ভূমির সমন্বয় এবং খাল-নদীর যোগসূত্রে পড়ে ওঠা এই জলাধার চলনবিল নামেই পরিচত।
দেশের অন্যান্য জলাশয়ের মতো প্রাকৃতিক নিয়মেই এই জলাধার ঋতুর ফেরে রূপ বদলায়। সৌন্দর্য ছড়ায় নিজস্ব রূপ-লাবণ্যে। ঐশ্বর্য্যে হেসে ওঠে নানা ঋতুতে- নানা কালে। ঐতিহাসিক বয়ানে বলা হয়- পুরনো ব্রক্ষপুত্র পথপরিবর্তন করে যমুনায় রূপ নিলেই সৃষ্টি হয় চলনবিল।
