Probably the best interpretation I've heard! Thanks to Gordon too, modern pieces shoul all be like this! peaceful, calm, interesting themes and harmonies.. LOVE IT
I performed this today for my region solo and ensemble contest as a junior in high school, and I received a superior rating and I'm headed to state contest in May! Thanks for such a perfect reference video! I tried to mimic your performance as much as I could :)
is this solo hard ? i'm most likely going to play this solo this year for state. i've watched this video so many times and idkk what to expect from this solo
Always enjoy coming back to your vids Eric. As always you are a great point of reference. Great playing. Miss the good ole days with you buddy! I hope to see you again soon.
A very good choice of music for showing your skills, Eric. Sounds just great to me; it's often difficult to convey a good rendition of the sound on RUclips clips, so well done, and all power to your elbows!
Hey i'm working this piece and i have a question about that octave change in 4:17 after the choral part, in this performance Eric Scherer played an octave bellow what it's written. I´ve seen other players doing the same thing and i just wanted to know if it´s that an option or if it could be just on the edtition of the score... Any help will be very apreciated! :)
Thanks! I used 2 Audio Technica 2035 microphones. They were placed about 3 feet above the instrument at equal distances. One of the best tools for manipulating the sound of the instrument is a multipressor. It is essentially a compressor but it allows you to compress specific frequencies rather than all of them. This tool allows me to possess more control over the amount of slap and sub bass. I may have went a little overboard on this recording. lol
+Eric Scherer The Zeltsman's are great! Encore really does a good job at bringing out the fundamental note in the bar and reducing unwanted overtones. Very clear. Good performance!
question. what grip do you suggest for this solo? burton, stevens, or traditional? I'm a sophomore in highschool and am intending to learn this solo probably this upcoming summer, and ive seen it done multiple ways. thanks! You played it spot on.
Eric Scherer what made you switch grips? Just curious. I started with Stevens but have always wondered a little bit if a cross grip would have been better.
This performance is great, and nearly flawless, but at 4:34 on the descending line you play 2 consecutive F#'s, but it's actually an F# followed by an A. Other than that, this is a fantastic performance.
Just for personal reference
Marking A: 0:41
Marking B: 1:17
2 Measures Before Marking C: 1:44
Marking D: 2:41
Marking E: 3:34
Marking F: 4:15
It's not personal reference anymore, Ryan. The reference is ours. Order has been restored.
Oh my gosh, such a beautiful peice!

Wow, I am so incredibly impressed by this interpretation. The best I’ve heard. Thank you!!

Playing this for my recital in Spring 2020. This is a great video to use for some reference! Well done!

+Kade Lehman Thank you so much!
Superbe! Bravo! beau jeu!
+Karl Létourneau Thanks for the comment!
Mesmerizing. Oh, I thought the instrument originated in El Salvador.
Beautiful performance and sound quality, shawty camera work tbh. Sorry to rag on whoever filmed this but, it's just really shaky and out of focus.
at 4:47, there's a swastika with not allowed sign around it....
+The Jolegion good preformance though
Probably a reference to "This Machine Kills Fascists"
Awesome, this guy nails it and thinks Nazis shouldn't be allowed to exist, perfect video ❤
dope
+VierNulAcht Thanks!!!
What made you switch from Stevens?
Great perfomance and great player! What mallets did you use? :)
Encore Nancy Zeltsman's

Great! What microphones did you use to record and where did you place them?

Hey, awesome performance! I'm going to be playing this piece for my senior recital, what mallets were you using in this recording?
+chris Very cool! I am using various mallets from Nancy Zeltsman's line through Encore mallets.
+Eric Scherer The Zeltsman's are great! Encore really does a good job at bringing out the fundamental note in the bar and reducing unwanted overtones. Very clear. Good performance!
+Tim Laguna Thanks for watching and your comment!

+jake kline I play burton grip but stevens tends to be the most popular in the United States. Thanks for the comment!
What year are you?
Sounds very nice in general.
+Micah Ray Thank you! I'm currently a 2nd year doctoral student at LSU. Sorry for the late response!
what kind of mallets did you use?
Encore Nancy Zeltsman's
Bruh keep the camera still!!!!
Can you play this on a 4.3 octave marimba
Yes
Well played! I really like the piece. Is it possible to play it on a 4 and 1/3 octave marimba? Or is a bigger one required?
+Vince 77 yeah, if you buy the music its written for a 4.3 octave marimba and comes with an adapted part if you have a 5 octave.
Encore mallets?
Yep!
What grip did u use
+Andrew Kim I play burton grip. Switched from stevens about 4 years ago. Sorry for the late reply!
Eric Scherer what made you switch grips? Just curious. I started with Stevens but have always wondered a little bit if a cross grip would have been better.
What is the exact mallet line up you used?
Dahkari Eubanks Nancy Zeltsman mallets pal which ones but you can look up the series and tell by the colour
Squad
can this be played on a 4.3?
yes
Thank you
dose this fit on a 4.3?
+Andrew McIver He is playing on a 5 octave
no sir 4:55
Yes. The part at 4:55 is actually an alternate 5 octave version. In the 4.3 version, it's an octave higher.
TheIronChicken Oh shoot my bad

Good performance.... get a new camera guy tho
This is a good video to just listen and not watch...
I don't think you wll get many Gigs, but I like your wrk. Try some Jazz,Salsa! After all the Marimba is a Mex instrument.
Actually the word "Marimba" is african... meaning something like "several notes" because you can play more than one at a time.
😐
